Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 ม.ค. 2010
G'day Everyone !
Our Channel is getting under way soon. It's about 2 oldies getting started with this caravanning scene.
We are getting ourselves organized with the older gear we have & hit the road to lots of interesting places in beautiful Australia.
The first video will be what we are starting out with, and then snippets of a couple of first time trips. We sure started off with way more packed than we needed, you will get a laugh from this !
It will be up soon when I get it edited, lots to cut out, don't want "Dads Home Movies" on here !
Why not Subscribe, as then you will be notified of each of our journeys videos,
where we are learning the Caravan Experience as we . . . "Travel See & Do" !
Cheers
Baz :-)

Went there many times with my Dad back in the 1970's.
It was just so enjoyable, a true history lesson ! Cheers
I just realised part 2 is already up. Cheers.
Keep up Don. 😄
Wow, what a show! Well worth the bus trip, I would think. It had everything, with most of them running. Love the sound of these old machines. Keep on editing, Baz, I want to see part 2! Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it Don, it was a great day out! Soooo much to see
good job mate
We just better get it on the road when the weather gets a bit warmer. Looking forward to it. Thanks for your comment 🙂
We have locks top and bottom of our destiny door.
Great idea Helen ! We haven't had any problems yet with ours, touch wood 🙂
Fire blanket should be near the door, you shouldn't have to go deeper in the van to get it, if the fire gets worse you are trapped. you can exit the van assess the fire and if you fully believe that you can control the fire, you can grab the blanket and cover the fire
We have now moved ours to the centre of the van beside the fridge cabinet. Thanks for the tip, learning as we go !
Hi, How did you attach the solar panel to the pop top roof? I’m thinking of doing the same. If I use bolts I can’t see how you remove the inner ceiling to access the nuts. Which leaves screws and silicone so I’m interested in seeing how you have done it. Thanks.
Hi, Initally I used a mounting kit with Sikaflex but the first road trip wasn't good, got to the destination & the panel was gone. Boy, never again on a Pop Top ! So I ended up not putting my Solar Panel on the roof at all. I put it up there when the van is parked at home to keep everything alive. When travelling I can either put it on the roof OR put it out in the sun up to 20Mts away from the van. I'm not a big fan of parking the Van in the sun just to please the solar panel ! This PLUS didn't want any HOLES in my roof. Hope this helps your decision Cheers, Baz
Thanks for the reply @@travelseedo1
Good work mate 👍 Im tossing up between the 85L or the 90L brass monkey for my 89 model jayco van. Not fussed on dimensions as i have to build a new fridge cavity. How is the fridge holding up? Are you still happy with it?
Hi Jim, Well we are half way through our Tassie month long tour & this fridge has not missed a second ! It has been rock solid on Freezer -20deg & Fridge 3deg since we kicked off. It has run perfectly on the ute 12v while travelling, van battery when solar & 240v adapter when on a powered site. I highly recommend this fridge, a great product that just works ! And no, im not affiliated with Brass Monkey, lol, just my own opinion. Go for it !! Cheers, Baz
You have done a good job mate who cares what your van is or looks like ,it's done to where you enjoy it ,my wife and I are working out way around Australia next year some time we haven't got the van yet but hopefully everything will be done as my wife, calls me passion fingers meaning everything I touch I break cheers Tony
Yes Tony, the old Jayco may be getting on in years but we can still travel, cook & sleep in it very comfortably, same as a new $80k Van ! We are off to Tassie in December for a month so hope it makes the trip ok. Will be recording most of it. Cheers Mate
Pleased you tried it, loved the golden syrup bit
It was just so Yummy !
Would love to do a trip with you guys ccoking😇
I wouldn't rely on us for cooking thats for sure !
Great idea, we snapped those door pins up near Kununurra. Wrong place to try to get replacement parts! Used plenty of duct tape to secure the outer skin back to the door.
Very easily done, thought I would do something before we lost our door ! Some people have commented that you could be locked in from the outside, but once the pin is retracted & the key taken out, the pin can't be pushed back in, it's locked in the open position. You can also easily remove the pin altogether if you are still worried. Cheers & thank you for you comment. Baz
Thanks for the ideas. Sorry to see water damage in the wall around the vent near the door. I think that's water pouring off the pop-up roof corner straight down onto the vent, We have the same issue and are looking at some sort of external vent cover or a diverter on the roof there.
Yep, thats exactly whats happened. Will be certainly putting a small cover over the top of the vent, cheaper than a new van !
Our 2007 destiny lost the front window cover the other day due to plastic fatigue. It cracked and shifted enough so that the twist locks no longer engaged and it twisted up in the wind and tore itself to bits. I stuck a yoga mat over the window (till we get back home). We had a look at other destiny vans in the next couple of parks we were in, and they all look like they will do the same shortly. Everyone of them had cracks in the plastic cover around the struts and hinges. The high pressure water line connection at the back of the filler panel also let go, which put water into the back cupboard area under the bed, not good. Moved the high pressure inlet to under the van near the front kitchen. No reason it cannot live there permanently and be outside the van walls. The water plugged into the panel, came in under the bed, then straight down through the floor and along underneath to the kitchen anyway. So, just moved the inlet connection outside, underneath.
Well these tips are most welcome to any older Jayco owners. I have checked my fron cover but no sign of cracking yet & the turn clips work very well. Might pay for an extra latch on the bottom of the cover though ! As for the water inlet, another great tip, will be checking mine & probably moving the inlet under the side of the van as per your suggestion. Thank you so much for these tips, helps us all ! Cheers, Baz
@@travelseedo1 Just another change. Rain water tended to pour off the popup roof in the corner near the door. In our van, there are two vent covers there. A small one for the stove range hood air outlet and another one that just seems to be there for fresh air inlet. Water pours off the roof, hits the roof latch and splashes the second vent. The is a slight water mark inside around the vent. Took the vent off the outside to look and found Jayco had no sealent between it and the wall. Put some sealent under it and popped it back on.
You would be in trouble without Kimmy.
Definately need Kimmy on the opposite sides, hard to handle on your own 😉
Are we invited to the party??
It was a bloody party putting it up !
Good to see you got it up. It would be a real handful on a windy beach campsite.
Your not wrong Wal !
Hey Baz - Good idea but only 1 issue. Someone can lock you in if they push the bolt over when you are inside
Ahhh, I thought of that, but if you put the open position & turn the key it locks the pin in the open position, can't be pushed back in !
Onya mate, we have a Jayco Sterling 17.55 with a door that goes the other direction, but great tip. Loving your other videos too, great work. Dave from Perth..... now subscribed!
Thanks Dave 👍
Great idea of using the window lock, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Very informative, and some good ideas. Cheers 🤙
Glad you enjoyed it ! Cheers Baz
Flasher wires wrong way around yellow right .
Hi John, It is Yellow Left in Australia ! Check out on a Google search. Cheers Baz
Looking forward to pt 2. I’m from Vancouver, Canada and I can’t seem to find listing for it here. If you can put up the model name & number it would be appreciated. And how much you paid? Love the dual door opening bit. I’ve got a vintage rv with a similar dometic. Great vid!
Hi Aubrey, I have almost finished the total install & will be posting the video up in the next few days. I will certainly describe the fridge model, specs etc as well as a DIY auto voltage selector. This unit cost me AU$950. Cheers Baz
@@travelseedo1 thanks Baz!🤞 good luck!
Great set of improvements, would love to have your skills. Hope to catch you on the road sometime and get to know you and maybe travel for a while together.
I reckon thats a plan Roger, I've only got another 20 years or so left before it's too late !
Looks like a great setup. Looking forward to your travels!
Thanks Don, cant wait to get going. Next vid of our mods up soon. By the way, I also am involved with vintage radio rebuilds, been a tech for 50 years & love it ! Cheers Mate !
Would love to catch up with you on the road sometime
Well we will have to organize soon Rog, places to go, things to see :-)
Great introduction to your plans, hope all goes well and you meet lots of like minded people, as you will from my experience.
I hope so too!
