Historicon 2024 Convention Recap
Historicon 2024 was a great success and a celebration of our great hobby. I put together this montage of various game clips, with the second half of the video showing what wargaming goodies I bought at the show!

28mm Macedonian Army | Victrix Miniatures
มุมมอง 395หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm delighted to share my freshly-painted 28mm Macedonian Army! I'll be using them for a range of Ancients games starting with a Warhammer Ancient Battles tournament at Historicon 2024!
The Barons' War | 500pt Battle Report
มุมมอง 1.6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
A force of sergeants, led by a noble Knight Commander face a band of Outlaws in this battle report, using the Glory Seeker scenario. Both opponents must inflict maximum damage on the enemy... and neither disappoints! Featuring my newly painted and eagerly anticipated (by me!) Forest Slingers, the unique deployment map means both forces get stuck in immediately. To arms!
Unboxing My Barons' War Reinforcements

The Barons' War | 500pt Battle Report
มุมมอง 3.7K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Following my renewed excitement for the Barons' War, I put together a new solo battle report, this time playing the Hero Slayer scenario. A ragged band of woodland outlaws have a retinue of sergeants squeezed on both sides. Will they be able to punch through or face their doom from a hidden arrow?
Blood and Plunder Battle Report | Brethren of the Coast Vs. Caribbean Tribes
มุมมอง 6915 หลายเดือนก่อน
My first Blood and Plunder solo battle report! Two forces just under 150pts each fighting the Take and Hold scenario from the main rulebook.
Hobby Update | Victrix Macedonians & Republican Romans
มุมมอง 4116 หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick overview on my wargaming progress with a Macedonian and Republican Roman set of forces. Minis are all 28mm Victrix, with character models by Warlord Games and Gripping Beast. Shield decals are by Little Big Man Studios.
The Barons War | 500pt Battle Report
มุมมอง 4K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
The wave of Barons War content suddenly hitting TH-cam has me inspired to play it again, so I put together a small game to reorient myself with the rules. Two channels I highly recommend for more Barons War content: @MedievalWargamer and @wrymouthstudio
Rebels and Patriots | AWI Battle Report
มุมมอง 8838 หลายเดือนก่อน
This American War of Independence battle report sees me solo-gaming the Widow Creek Bridge scenario from the Rebels and Patriots rulebook. The British are attacking some beleaguered colonial militia, while reinforcements race to their rescue. Will they get there in time?
Bolt Action Battle Report | USMC Vs. Imperial Japan | Supply Drop
มุมมอง 2.1K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
We're off to the Pacific for a Bolt Action WW2 battle report! The United States Marines face an Imperial Japanese Grenadier force. I'm using 1000pts a side and a new mission - Supply Drop, from The Bolt Action Alliance scenario pack. If you'd like to play, you can find the mission pack here: boltactionalliance

มุมมอง 14511 หลายเดือนก่อน
A turn full of surprises as we edge closer to our battle's conclusion. Will Lord Clifford's force be able to kill the Yorkist general before he can exact a toll on the Lancastrian forces, ending the game? Issue some orders in the comments, and lets find out!

    • @axisandaliens

I love the activations but I get what you mean about it being unsuitable for tournaments. What main house rules do you use?

    • @robfranken2158
      @robfranken2158 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@axisandaliens Our house rules are based on an activation point system. Short description: If we field 24-point armies, each player gets 32 activation points (hereafter AP). In the original rules, to activate Heavy Cav. for Movement, you must roll 5+! Now you roll a dice, add 2* points to the Dice result and deduct the sum from your available AP! This guaranteed, you can do the most important things for sure (but you can not do everything you want, due to shortage of AP). Another important change is, you can activate units several times, but you must pay AP each time! So, you can activate a unit of e.g. Heavy Cav at first for movement (pay AP), then for attacking (again pay AP) BUT for each movement activation before attacking, the unit has -1 in melee! Example: You activate Heavy Cav once for movement and then for attacking. Normally, the HC would hit on 4-6 in melee but due to one movement activation before, the unit hit only on 5,6! If the unit moves 2 times before, it hit only on 6! You need a table and two markers for EACH player! Use a black and a red marker to bookkeep the AP! Both markers are on 32 at the beginning and the red one is moving down each time, you spend AP! The black one is adjusted down each time, you lose a unit (point costs of the lost unit). The red one can never be higher than the black one. Reset the red marker atop the black one, once your turn is over but deduct points of battered units, you have right now! Now the turn of the other player begins and you have to spend AP for countercharging! At the end of your opponent’s turn, he adjust his red marker like you in your turn BUT in contrast to him, you don’t do it now! So, if you had countercharging activations, you start your own turn with correspondingly less AP! Evading and Wild Attacks are handled as in the original rules but if you miss a test for a Wild Attack, you can still activate this unit for movement and/or attacking (spend AP as usual but the attack would have -1 in melee, because the unit miss its impetuous vigour this turn and additional -1 for each movement activation before attacking). You can activate battered units for movement (only!), paying additional 2 AP. They cannot move towards enemy units! To form a Wall of Spears Formation costs AP as for movement. Light Cavalry can countercharge Light Cavalry and Skirmishers if contact happen in open terrain. Skirmishers can countercharge Skirmishers. Attacking Cavalry can stop at the edge of difficult terrain if the enemy unit evades into difficult terrain! The first movement activation for Light Cavalry and Skirmishers doesn’t result in -1 in melee for a movement activation before attacking! Elite Cavalry can ignore Skirmisher for Wild Attack but the can test for if the player want! A unit do not have to test courage for losses in melee if the enemy unit was wiped out completely (wiping out an enemy is a real moral boost)! This is just a part of our House rules! Unfortunately, they are written in German! This variant is still in development (fine tuning), e.g. if players start with 32 AP (if starting with 24 points) or 40 AP or…) and we are testing rules for large units and interruption activations (Interruption because players should not be helpless, in the opponents turn). The AP rules are a resource management (where and when to use your available AP) so the game becomes much less luck depending! Fair critics and suggestions welcome! regards, Rob * We deduct 3 Points from EACH original activation value except X-Bows shooting! In the original rules, to activate Heavy Cav. for Movement, you must roll 5+. So, minus 3 = 2 For X-Bows shooting, we just deduct -1 from the original value.

There's Harry Turtledoves World War series - The aliens arrive in WWII thinking they'd be facing mounted knights. If they'd left a lot earlier, they might have. and Poul Anderson's The High Crusade, where physically weak but technologically superior aliens land in Medieval England. Things do not go well for them

Lovely battle report and tabletop. Not a fan of the list building, but that is Warlords fault. The Americans are actually the only faction where it would make sense to pick veteran tanks, with the other tanks it simply isn't worth it, since there is only a small threshold of penetration values where the veteran ability will actually trigger and in a game with that many tanks, you are more likely to just get blown up before the pins stack up to be a problem and you actually profit of the veteran rules and morale value. The Germans desperately need a rule to make their veteran tanks worth it, or at least cheaper access to the veteran status, since historically speaking they had a tons of veterans by the time the Americans landed in Europe and they have the most renowned tank commanders in all of WW2 but there is nothing to represent that in the game other than taking the few overpriced unique characters. The points spent on the 5 veteran Panzer IV would have been better invested in another panzer IV.

Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully the new edition later this year addresses these concerns. It’s a fun game but I wouldn’t call it particularly historical.

Very nice table and good looking miniatures. BaP is one of my favourite games and I really like land battles. It has a certain quality with the card driven activation. As you play two of my factions....on a table like that the Brethren of the Coast had an uphill battle against the natives, we played similar match ups with the natives more or less always the winners. It is okay for me as going into the jungle has to be a problem for the Europeans. Bows are quite simple, you do not get any reload markers so can't run out of "shots", meaning you can fire multiple times (depending on the activation card and whether you want/can push your units) which is a HUGE advantage. On the other hand your opponent gets a -3 save, so even being in the open means they have a 6+ save...some troops even get a 2+ save when in cover. The one Flibustier should have been removed as you can't have double the amount of fatigue than figures in a unit...a unit with 2 figures left and 4 fatigue is removed from play. Not quite sure about the strike test and the 50% left of your army, I don't have the scenario in my head atm, normally you have to test when you do have two more strike points than your opponent. The report is very nice but is a bit short for details (which sometimes is really quite okay) but I think you have to be a bit more restrained next time and have to focus fire and get rid of the smaller units...units of 4 are too small in BaP if you ask me....5 and 6 is okay (I like to play with more units uusually, so end up with smaller ones) but 4 is a bit playing with fire. Hope you keep it going, it is a wonderful system.

Wow, what an incredibly thoughtful set of comments - thank you! I enjoy the land battles too and I’m hoping to get a group game in this weekend. I’m definitely planning on larger units in future - I like the idea of small groups but they’re just not effective. Looking forward to Port Royal too!

@@axisandaliens I might be a bit old school and enjoy to write about things and my ideas. :) Nothing wrong with a thumbs up but that is sometimes a bit too superficial for me. Anyway, BaP is really interesting and I like it much and I look forword to maybe your next BaP report. Port Royal might be something that I enjoy but I do already play a lot of small skirmish games and not quite sure whether I find the time for another one...we wil see.
