Ironically, "self-compassion" can only come from others, in a process of reparenting to replace the self-loathing too many of us carry away from our abusive and emotionally abandoned childhoods, as a result of parents thoughtlessly and selfishly bringing children into a world that no longer has a place for them and who do not have the time, protection, and care to properly parent. So, support groups like the 12-step groups often accomplish what expensive, rarely available individual therapy or hopium programs like this one cannot provide. Self-compassion is not a self-administered therapy and must be freely and lovingly granted unconditionally by our fellows, to replace what we did not get in our traumatic childhoods. Stress R Us

Fierce self-compassion is a form of self-protection. I love this concept because it shows very well that compassion is not only about being soft and kind. It means also setting boundaries, expressing our needs, and stepping out of our comfort zone if we want to grow!
