Adaptive Left-hand Alto Sax, version 2

The second left-hand-only sax to be modified here at the shop, this one is keyed to play all the way down to Low C using a combination of pinky keys (F#, F, and E) and thumb keys (D, Eb, C, and C#). This is the process I typically use for fitting cork pads that have a hole in the middle (aperture) on oboes. Credit to Jeff's Woodwind Shop, who I'm pretty sure was the person who originated this technique.

UPDATE: The unidentified material I held up for cleaning pads/tone holes is called Pellon Fusible Interfacing. I think it's used for adhering pieces of fabric together by heating under an iron. I notice the right hand keys continue to move while you play the notes with your left hand. Is it still possible to play the notes with the default fingerings with this system? If so then it's brilliant. You basically have alternate fingerings for every note that use the right hand. Excellent work sir.
You can play down to Low D using the standard fingerings, though it feels klunky because of all the extra mechanisms following along with the movements.

about that Pellon Fusible Interfacing, Doesn't that leave a sticky substance on the pads. My mother used to use is for making clothes and it stuck on fabric when she ironed it. Ok I'm not going to iron my oboe, but it makes me think there is something sticky in there.

Huh, good question. The F#, F, and E are activated by rockers, so they could be played with the right hand and it would feel pretty much the same, maybe a little clunky. The Eb, D, and C are permanently attached to the new mechanisms by Minibals, so you could activate them with the right hand but you'd also be "pulling" the new mechanisms along so it would feel heavy from all that extra mass. The C# can only be played with the thumb mechanism, and the Low B and Bb can't be played at all because their touchpieces were repurposed for the F#, F, and E. Wow, what an amazing piece of work, very interesting! Two questions: The side B flat key is also just left on there for cosmetic reasons? Is it playable for a two-handed person like the low C and E flat seem to be? Also, how do you play a D in the upper octave? Do you have to press the octave key and also one of the new touch pieces?
The side Bb isn't in the way, so it's easier to leave it in place. It could be used by someone who has the use of both hands, the same is true with the side F#. Upper octave D can be played with just the palm key (no octave key), which is how the owner of this sax has been playing it, however the intonation is spotty. Now he also has the option of fingering a low D and adding the palm key, which essentially acts as an octave key for just that fingering. You could also lip it up if your embouchure is strong enough. It's not really possible to reach the octave key while playing any of the other thumb keys.
