Who were the Vandals?
Use code THEHISTORIES at the link below to get an exclusive 60% off an annual Incogni plan: incogni.com/thehistories
The word ‘Vandal’ today means 'a person who deliberately destroys or damages property belonging to others' - when it comes to the Germanic Vandals, whose late antique migrations took them from Southern Poland, across the Western Roman Empire and into North Africa via Spain, this description is not exactly untrue, especially given that they did indeed sack the city of Rome in 455 AD.
However, the Vandals were only one of a number of Germanic tribes who moved into the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, forced into a wholesale westward migration by the Huns. They had a colossal impact upon late antique europe, and in particular upon the decline and fall of the Roman Empire in the West, through their establishment of an independent kingdom in North Africa, a kingdom that lasted for almost a century.
Therefore, today we will endeavour to learn more about this powerful and much feared Germanic people, and answer the question: Who were the Vandals?

Who were the Philistines?
มุมมอง 257K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Few peoples throughout history are simultaneously so totally unknown, and so maligned, as the Philistines - the name alone has become a pejorative byword for an uncultured individual. We mostly know of the Philistines from the Bible, where they are the enemies of the people of Israel. At the same time, the Philistines leave us very little in the historical record by which we can discern what th...
Who were the Cathars?
มุมมอง 272K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
The catholic church had many enemies in medieval Europe, but one of the greatest challenges to its power and authority came not from over-mighty kings, but from heretics. One particular group, a sect of dualists who rejected the old testament, the incarnation of Christ, and the trinity, presented a very real threat to Catholic orthodoxy - the Cathars. These Cathars, or ‘Good Christians’ as they...
Who were the Phoenicians?
มุมมอง 520K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Note: the purple areas displayed on the larger map of the mediterranean are intended to show areas of Phoenician influence, and areas in which the Phoenicians conducted the majority of their trade. I realise now that it may look a little like a traditional 'empire', which is not the intention! Usually noted for their thalassocratic state - that is, a state with a primarily maritime empire - the...
Who were the Picts?
มุมมอง 183K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
The term ‘Dark Ages’, while really intended to refer to the supposed cultural, economic and social decline of Europe in the centuries following the fall of the Roman Empire in the West, is quite apt in another sense - the period can be described as ‘Dark’ because, for certain geographical areas, it is rather difficult to work out what exactly was going on. It was into this slightly mysterious p...
Who were the Suebi?
มุมมอง 255K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Imperial Rome - a familiar topic, which many of us apparently think about with great regularity. The empire is well known to us, and well defined: However, what is less clear to us is the world beyond Rome’s borders, particularly in those regions where there lived so called uncivilised ‘barbarians’. One name can be seen with great regularity in the Roman sources concerning these lands: Suebi. I...
Who were the Pechenegs?
มุมมอง 162K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
The medieval Eurasian steppe is a rather confusing place, for several reasons. The first, is that it played host to an ever shifting patchwork of nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples, whose various wars precipitated large-scale migrations at various points. Another, is that these peoples, by and large, left very little (if anything) by way of written sources by which we can identify them. The Peche...
The Evolution of CONSTANTINOPLE
มุมมอง 16Kปีที่แล้ว
I could never find a video which gave a concise overview of the city of Constantinople itself, which might explain how its physical structure bloomed in the early medieval period, how it developed over the successive centuries, and how it waned before the final defeat of the Byzantine Empire in the 15th Century. This video is an attempt to do just that. Naturally, a video of this length could n...
Nestor Makhno: Anarchist, Revolutionary, Legendary Ukrainian
มุมมอง 15Kปีที่แล้ว
The aftermath of the Russian Revolution was a chaotic and bloody time - from 1917 until 1922, civil war consumed the former Russian Empire, as competing factions vied for power. One of the lesser known participants was a movement of Anarcho-communists who came to exert control over vast areas of southern Ukraine, led by a man named Nestor Makhno. This Ukrainian revolutionary, born into a family...
How Barbarian Invasions ended the Western Roman Empire
มุมมอง 18Kปีที่แล้ว
In the year 406 AD, a large group of Barbarians crossed the Rhine frontier into the Western Roman Empire, leaving a trail of sacked cities in their wake. In this video, we explore the reasons for this large scale migration, the immediate effects of this upheaval, and the disastrous consequences for the Western Roman Empire. Hereward the Wake - The Anglo-Saxon Guerilla
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
From the marshy wetlands of the East Anglian fens, Hereward the Wake led a desperate Anglo-Saxon rebellion against the rule of the Norman King, William the Conqueror. This is the story of Hereward, a Saxon nobleman who went on to embody English resistance to Norman oppression. This mini-documentary gives a brief overview of Hereward the Wake. How Byzantine Monks Stole Silkworms From China
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The medieval Byzantine Empire was well known for its production and use of luxurious silk, but until the mid-6th century Byzantine artisans were forced to import raw silk from China - an arduous journey which made silk incredibly expensive. It was during the reign of Justinian that the Byzantines ended the Chinese monopoly, and began to produce their own raw silk - the tale is a semi-legendary ...
How Was Female Sanctity Constructed In Late Antiquity?
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Saint Genevieve’s gender had a marked effect on the way her sanctity was displayed in her hagiography (hagiography is a biography of a saint), particularly when we consider contemporary male saints and their Vita. (vita is latin for life, and forms the title of most medieval hagiographies - for example, ‘vita genovefa). It is important to first note the context of late antique female sanctity -...
What Impact Did The Imperial Court Have On Byzantine Art?
มุมมอง 3.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Macedonian dynasty of emperors oversaw something of an artistic revival in the Byzantine empire, which some have even branded as a ‘renaissance’ for its ‘new range of expression and an increasing technical virtuosity’. Use of the term ‘renaissance’ immediately invites comparisons to the later Italian renaissance and whether or not this period of Byzantine art is worthy of such a comparison ...
What role did the Pechenegs play in Byzantine foreign relations?
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Pechenegs, a group of steppe nomads who came to prominence in eastern Europe in the 9th and 10th centuries, were crucial to the balance of power in the northern Byzantine world. The image that contemporaneous sources give us is of a fierce and dangerous warrior-people, formidable in battle and feared and respected by their neighbours in equal measure. Indeed, both the Rus princes and the By...

Is there a good book that explains the beginning of ancient civilizations ?
It should be noted that the study done in 2017 seems to hold more weight than Mohammad Almarri's 2021 study. Always remain sceptical because the Mulsim world is obsessed with claiming Lebanon as an Arab state knowing full well that the Lebanese resist this claim - lebanese understand their ancestery derive from the Phoenicians. The Arabs are obsessed with trying to refute our actual native idenity.
I am not spending over 30 minutes watching a video where I already know the answer. Phoenecians are seaborne Israelites. Originally they were Tribe of Dan, Asher, Naphtali. White Europeans are deported Israelites. Israelis are Khazarian name stealers. Of course after using that accurate description, my comment will be shadowbanned by some Khazar FBI prick...
Canaanite’s and worshippers of Baal
There is a village of Pečenjevci in south Serbia.
Thank you for an interesting video.... I think you give a well informed and balanced presentation
There is one Orthodox Church and only one Orthodox Church and that is the Greek Orthodox Church of the East. The Roman Catholics stopped being orthodox when they forcibly split the church in two and expelled the Greeks.
7:10 None of this sounds like the Vikings at all.
Khazar Askeazi Jewry is a great tale. Historians have found no evidence.
Suebi where Slavs 10000% no doubt. Suebi/Suavi= Slavi aka Sławi= Fame in Slavic, nothing related to Germanic Languages. Stolen history at its best
I don't mean to mock you but your pronounciation of Vendsyssel is hilarious, it sounded like you were sneezing but I guess the stød makes it really hard to pronounce.
I can’t listen to this because of all the music in the background
Today's English are more scared of a brown person than Christianity killing their own kin 😂😂😂
In American they love Christianity especially the Southern Americans who losve to claim European dna 😂😂 just cause they don't loek thae blk races. With their 3% dna "im a tru white European". If Americans love to claim our race then come over here and get rid of the problems. Oh thats right Americans are sheeps
Todays Europeans don't care a religion form the middle east came to take over their beliefs they only care the ppl of the middle raat followed 😂😂😂 Christianity is a joke
the israelites werent the protagonists in the bible. king david at 1 point allied with them. and israelites were called a "sinful kingdom" in bible. you dont read the bible, you are the biased one
Khazar made a big mistake addopting "sick caniballistic cult" and abandoning its steppe traditions and endup losing their nomadic identity.
So the Bible is just a book of propaganda meant to prop up the Jews? And it's full of historic and accuracies? Who the funk it?
This is great! Long live my Khazar Khaganate paternal ancestors. History will always remember you!
The most famous one is also named Fulgrim.
First time I've been seen this channel. Enjoyed learning about the Suebi history well narrated too I must say. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Coming from the harsh reality of Central Europe, The Vandals find a paradise in North Africa
The Vandals still exist today. You can see them in many stadiums across Europe
Imagine if the Vandal kingdom existed today. We wouldn’t have much of this migration problem in Europe today
Fun fact Constantinople and Rome have the same size behind the city walls 14 square kilometres
Glad I found your channel. I appreciate the simplicity, vibe, and depth.
My thesis to what happened to the Pechenegs after their fall: 1. Some joined the Çepni and Salur tribes 2. Those who were taken in by the cumans later constituted the Pechenegs in the nogai horde 3. Some pecheneg clans were assimilated into Hungary (namely tonuzoba and taksony) 4. The Pechenegs in Macedonia could be the ancestors to the Gagauz, deliorman Turks, and the west Thrace Turks. 5. Pechenegs in Anatolia were assimilated and Islamized by the Rûm sultanate and Karamanid beylik due to pecheneg settlements in southern Anatolia near karaman province and Ankara up north.

seeing how Israel acts in 2025 makes me understand why the Philistines pillaged them
They used to go by Phil but now they go by Pal.
We know the people who wrote the bible lied. They repurposed earlier stories into their own. Just look at that area now, still lying.
I'd like to point out the Alci was likely a German adoption of the Helen of troy myth since Leda was the mythological mother of castor, pollux, and Helen.
Did he say dic sippus
Excellent presentation , fascinating , btw I understand the old Germanic Vandal language fragments you mention
What is the relationship of the Cathari to the Essenes? Sounds like it has a lot in common with the ascetic alchemical practices Jesus did to prepare his bodily vessel to receive the Christ. Seems like we came back to Earth to provide that upwards pressure for humanity amidst the Revelation.
Interestingly, this is also where it is believed Mary Magdalene lived out the rest of her life
If you have not read Gaiseric by Ian Hughes, I highly recommend it.
Please note: Beirut not Beruit. Otherwise excellent work !

As corrupt as the Catholic Church was/is...who are they to call anyone heretical? I mean Your Pope in office today is one as he straight up claims there are multiple ways to God even though the Bible clearly says the only way to God is through Christ. So, again who are the heretics?
Very good video... Really easy to follow... Visual and the narration thank you. Full of good information.
The Phoenician script seems to have come to South Asia by way of Aramaic to influence Brahmi which became the dominant script there.
Great video, very informative.
The correct spelling is Finnicians and the were ancient Irish , God bless
It is very unclear to me the author understands anything about real Christian theology. Oh how so modern and progressive to be so stupid.
Only Morons discount the Bible. I tire of these boorish people who consider themselves oh so smart. "Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" these turds have no wisdom!
This is well-reasoned & does reasonably good job sticking to facts. It errs in a couple points - one ancient, one modern. Herodotus did not express his belief that Phoenicians originated and had migrated from the south Arabian peninsula region. Instead, he simply relayed that some believe this - but that he discounted or did not know of its veracity. Further then, Strabo later repeating that account adds no further credibility to it. Genetic & DNA analyses- the science of which advances rapidly these days - shows clearly that today’s Lebanese ppl are 93% genetically equivalent to ancient Canaanites (~3000 bc). This predates the formation of groups into identifiable ethno-centric city-states of the Levant. They are also 97% alike those inhabiting the region later ~1750 bc which is the time frame of a large migration from the Pontic Steppe that appears in genetic studies and other anthropological changes throughout the Middle East, Anatolia, and Greece.
A very professional and enlightening presentation with superb commentary, breakdown of subject categories and video.
What an absolute bunch of ignorant lies this dude is spewing! He’s hoping the ignorant, who don’t study, will swallow the poison he spews. He starts with, “you can’t believe the Bible but go ahead and swallow my garbage lies!” Shame on all liars, your father is from the pit!!
The ending author of the quote may have been exaggerating, the vandals did not go into obscurity, they're sacking was so legendary that we describe any destruction of property in legal terms, as vandalism. And someone that partakes in destruction of property a vandal. Even so damn long after their absorption into the greater demographics of the areas they ended up. There's nothing miniscule about that. 😅
