i 'get' tradition...but come'on...who wants to ride a 1910 harley every day? too expensive? Says who? if they're selling then they're not too expensive. Just too expensive for the WHINERS. I bought a harley 2 weeks ago - $1200. cleaned the carb and it's running like new, 11k miles and mint condition. If 30k, 40k is too much then don't buy it...when sales stop they'll have to adjust. As for HD selling other things...so what? If they're selling what YOU want to buy, then what do you care if they sell e-bikes or dirt bikes, etc? They sell a lot of clothing...nobody complains that their a t-shirt company trying to sell bikes. If they quit trying to put their name on EVERYTHING (mirror stems, headlight castings, tires) they could drop tehir prices A LOT. Very informative video. I couldn't be happier with my 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT, which I bought new in January of 2019. 73,000 and 30 States later, I love this motorcycle. Truly the best bike for long-distance cruising IMHO.

I bought a 07 softail custom new in 07. I looked on Harleys website got the price and then contacted my local dealer in jasckson ,ms .it was same price as advertised on Harleys website ... they asked how I was gonna pay.. I replied I need the price out the door and I'll take it to my own financial institution....that's how my exsperiance at my harley happened, now that was in 07. So things could have changed.....I'm gonna look at Harleys website and pick a bike then call my local harley to see if things have changed ....

Most Harley dealers want to suck you in and get you deeply under water ASAP with the extended service program, fees, ridiculous financing, accessory add-ons, etc. I only buy toys like motorcycle with cash, which Harley dealers make no money on and don't even want to do, because they know they can sell the bike to another customer and make a lot more profit than selling it to me for cash. I would not buy a Harley from a dealer except at "MSRP" dealers, and there a very few of those left these days. Most dealers rip you off and get you committed to an insane total investment for many years that you can't get out of. It's all just a big shell game, and the customer ALWAYS LOSES!

CEO pay has risen to RIDICULOUS levels. It's all just pure GREED, and CEOs sit on other companies' boards. It's become a billionaires' club, in which they support each other rather than the residual owners (stockholders and bondholders) and customers. They treat the company as if it's their own personal game to play. BoDs and CEOs are focused pretty much exclusively on the current quarter's profits. They do dirty tricks to make the profitability in the current quarter look much better than it really is - such as spending billions on stock buybacks instead of investing that money in developing better products. There is also a relentless focus on reducing costs - which translates to screwing workers and cheapening products. I was in what I now call "Korporate Amerika" for decades at several different software companies, and I saw this in SPADES. The people supposedly leading the companies were very uninspiring, at best. There really isn't much true leadership in CEOs anymore. They are all basically the same, and they focus on purely financial matters to make things look good way more than making the companies great... treating employees with respect, looking after the bondholders and stockholders, and making great products.

I just found this new channel, "CJ". I subscribe to your excellent engineering channel, and I had no idea you were a Harley guy! Good video! The current CEO is an idiot, has NO respect for Harley heritage and us traditional Harley customers, doesn't ride them (nor do any of the BoD members), the bikes are STUPIDLY overpriced, and he wants to move H-D to all-electric by 2030. He's a woke fool, and he will drive the MoCO into bankruptcy. It's as if the MoCo wants to destroy itself by putting a jerk like that in as CEO. They're doing a good job of it by pissing off their best customers with all of the woke nonsense. Very sad. And let's face it... Harley dealers, as a group, SUCK. There are a few good dealers, such as H-D of Macon GA where I bought my 2012 FLHXSE3 CVO Street Glide for cash back in 2011, at MSRP. They are, or at least were back then, an MSRP dealer, and they are great people. But, I don't like the dealers up in my area... they are smug and don't pay any attention to customers... and it's been that way for a LONG time. It's as if they have people just flooding onto the sales floor, and can be choosy who they want to sell to. Good luck with that! I was in a dealer here a month ago to buy a new primary gasket, and I browsed the new bikes sitting on the floor. I spent about 20 minutes doing this, and the sales guy just sat at his desk and never even bothered to come over to greet me, even tho I was the ONLY person in the floor looking at the bikes. It was as if I wasn't even there. Oh, and I've bought TWO Harleys (a used police E-Glide and a new 2012 Tri-Glide) and LOTS of P&A there. It was ridiculous! I guess he didn't think I looked like a "real" sales prospect, standing there in shorts and flip-flops holding a primary gasket in one hand - and frankly I wasn't that particular day - but he didn't know that I'm actually a long-time repeat customer there. He just couldn't even be bothered to talk to me. Guess I didn't look enough like a bad-ass Harley guy that day. I was chuckling on the way out the door, because I could buy anything on the floor on the spot with no financing if I wanted to. But dealers make lots of profit on financing, and they don't like to sell bikes for cash anyway. HOG is dead even over 5 years, making it a TERRIBLE long-term investment, up 8.94% over 1 year, down 3.72% YTD. I wouldn't touch HOG with a 10-foot pole because I see ZERO long-term capital appreciation potential in it. I agree with you that the MoCo is in a long-term decline, and with the current woke CEO and woke BoD I see NO chance of things turning around there anytime soon.

I'm a big "buy American" guy, but the Harley crowd is really something. I ride a bicycle out in the Lake Mead area and Harley riders routinely harass me to the point where I don't ride out there on the weekends. Yeah, some are riders are pretty chill, especially out in the midwest, but here in the west the majority of Harley riders are obviously looking for a fight/drama/nothing good.

why buy new? I've been riding for 40 years or so and have had a lot of bikes of all kinds. never bought a new one. Why? Last week I picked up a 98 sportster 1200 custom for $1200...yes, twelve hundred. It has 11.500 miles on it. Looks new. needed the typical carb clean and battery from sitting for 3 years. 2 hours of work and i'm out riding. I Have a friend that buys a new harley tourbike (sorry, i don' t know all their models) every 2 years. No clue how....when i was in the dealer to get the battery the new harley's there were pushing or OVER $30,000!

I ride a Suzuki, and my partner has a Harley Breakout. I have test ridden 4 Harley’s: street rod, Sportster, Sporster S and Nightster. They are twice the price of my bike (some more) and don’t even come close on quality. I really like the new engine, but it’s everything else that lets the bikes down, and the prices are ridiculous for what you get. If I sold my bike, it wouldn’t buy a secondhand Harley, not to mention the extras they sell aftermarket. I am 33, a civil servant, we don’t have children, and I would struggle to buy one. So who younger than me could afford one? Also, we go to various dealerships and events I always note that it’s just all middle aged white men. Not a drop of diversity and women are usually pillions. They just do nothing to appeal and cannot compete with other brands. I hope they either go down or bring back the one we younger people wanted to see, the Bronx!

EXCELLENT VIDEO AND INFO!!! .....I own several generators. I run only GENUINE Yuasa Japanese (motorcyle) batteries. The newest genset, a 3 yr. old EF4500ise, with a 20ah Yuasa AGM. The oldest genset, a 12 yr. old Yamaha EF12000DE - 9,500 Watt Electric Start with a 30ah Yuasa AGM. Both gens purchased new. The batteries came with acid packs. After acid is installed, the glass mats absorb the acid and the batteries become non-spillable AGM's. I have yet to experience an issue (replace) any of my Yuasa batteries (including the 12 yr. old EF12000DE/Yuasa battery). I just bought a new "JNC950" jump start box for our vehicles. I was considering replacing the 23 lb. 35ah group U1 agm battery with a much lighter 35ah lifepo4 battery. I think i'll pass on that one! When you really, absolutely, positively need to start your car, motorcyle or truck, stick with lead acid (AGM). They are proven.

Hmmmm...you've been a bit quiet on the current blow up. Anyway imo who buys any product and checks if they have DEI ? Costco, Starbucks, Coke are all DEI. So I don't give a darn about that stuff, I like the bikes I've had. I also think it's a few clickbait idiots shooting up their bikes and causing dramas. Maybe the issue for HD lies in the price and the models.

I'm 75 and I have to say I've owned Harley's since I was 24 and my wife since she was 30. We've taken some great road trips together with our friends around the US, to Sturges, and up into Canada. I think we paid around $19K each for new Softails in 2018. Also, we're really disappointed with the HD company for taking the political stance supporting all those woke people, so we've decided it's time to give our bikes to our kids and buy a motorhome. It's a shame to watch a company we loved and supported go down in flames, but so be it.

For years, I wanted a Harley. Put money down on a new Wide Glide in 1997, then lost my job. Still wanted a Harley after I got the next job. Took till 2007, but bought a 06 Softail Standard from a private seller for WAY less than the bike was worth. I love the bike, and still do. With the advent of the current CEO, and the company taking a “woke” stance, I will never buy another one. I have an Indian Roadmaster now, and if I want another bike, it’ll be Indian or Triumph. Fuck Harley, unless they get their head out of their ass. Closing KC and moving it to fucking Thailand was bad enough.

AMF paid for the development of the Evo engine, the 5 speed transmission, the new FXR and FLT frame and it's rubbermount system used later on the Dynas. They bought the design and paid for the R+D the Softail chassis. They brought electric start and disc brakes to the entire product line, introduced electronic ignition and updated suspension on everything, increased displacement on both Big Twins and Sportsters, as well as converted them to run on unleaded fuel and meet new emissions on noise standards. Harley never would have survived without them.
