Fixing an Accutune bridge forever with two small parts!
How to fix an Accutune 1 or 2 bridge using just a set screw and a 1/4 inch screwdriver bit.
This bridge is famously known for being g a problem child. After hours of frustration and not being able to get the strings in tune after releasing the trem, I found a post that told me to use a longer set screw and to fit a 1/4 piece from my screwdriver set in to the bridge and it would stay in tun forever. He wasn’t wrong.
I’ll show you how to get everything set up so you can put it in tune so you can keep it that way.

How to add rechargeable batteries for active pickups with a USB charging port in a bass or guitar!
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I was sick of buying 9v batteries for my active pickups on my bass. I would forget to unplug my instrument cable and drain a brand new set overnight at least 2-3 times a year. No more! I’ve replaced them with Li-ion 9v rechargeable batteries and added a USB charging port. I thought of buying a Fishman battery pack and just hammering it in there, but now for the price of two really good 9v batte...
I tried this in 9v.. got a very bad high frequency noise.. any thoughts/suggestions ?
how about 6,700 mAh is it ok to use that battery?
Same thing with my Hohner SG lion... Was about to replace it with a 400$ Kahler! You saved me big time money!
Legend! Thank you.
hey brother not to sound like a know it all but the way you are setting up the acctune bridge is totally wrong. Here is how to fix it the right way. have you ever noticed why there looks like 2 trem. bar holes its because you put it in one side then push it down with the bar then tighten up the Allen screws on the outside as tight as you can the go to the other side and do the same now the back Allen screw it down until it barley touches without the piece you put in.the front side adjust it all the way until it almost comes out now the bridge will not move and you can tune it up then once you get it tuned adjust the front Allen until hit hits and stop. It is actually a good bridge just misunderstood. I just bought a 1986 jb player dirt-cheap 1st.edition neckthrough with active emg pickups because the bridge defeated the Owner' lol I hope you try it and anyone else thar has this prob.i may make a video for more in-depth..take care
Is is possible to lock this tremolo?
You could also fix this my having a longer threaded screw on the back set screw hole…which acts as a lock. So, once the strings are in, it can never pull it out of tune…food for thought
Can you update links include USB-c?
You should name that guitar Charlie Brown.
that is 100% it's name.
I bought a guitar that was from the very early 80s, it has a Kahler clone called a Guitar bar. I was having the same issue, hopefully, this will solve my issue.
Nicely done! I just got Fishman Fluences so I am seriously considering this!
What I wouldn't give for one of these made from good steel. I'd pay what a real Floyd cost maybe double. My hand just sits on it so right for palm muting and resting.
I actually replaced it with a Kahler hybrid just recently. Damn that thing is made nice.
Thank you so much Brother... I thought my trem was stuffed and have been hunting high and low for a replacement. I will DEFINITELY give this a try👍👍👍
Honestly i'm just going to start with the batteries you linked. Recently had a passive to active pickup conversion done on my guitar and every time I go to pick it up (i don't play often enough) I have to put a new dang battery in. If I get the gumption I'll probably get around to doing a conversion like this though, thanks for the straightforward instruction!
Have you tried unplugging your guitar? For some reason if you keep it plugged in it drains the battery.
@@Deac0n_Blues If you mean having a cable plugged into the jack, I usually unplug it when I'm done, but i'll double check. Thanks for the tip!
How do you block it and make it a fixed bridge?
this one, you can't. I actually replaced it recently with a Kahler Hybrid that CAN be set as a hardtail with the small turn of a set screw.
Very interesting. Does that add noise to the sound???
Not at all
Honestly, no noise? That’s amazing. Some are saying the boost circuit in these batteries produces noise but what you’ve done is genius and imma copy haha. It’s so expensive to experiment where I live though.
can you tell me what tremelo arm goes with this bridge? I have one and the arm is gone. thanks!
you need one like Ibanez likes to use that snaps in and is held with a ball bearing, not screwed in.
@@rustyjorgensen thank you !
I just threw my Accutune bridge in the trash from my Dean Z Autograph Super Strat. Same prob potted metal broke Dad was pissed and about to throw the guitar away. So I grabbed it before it hit the dumpster. Gonna fill it, replace it with a hipshot and call it a day.
THIS VIDEO CHANGED MY LIFE.
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!
I wished this worked. Such a garbage trem. I could have a 6” long set screw on that and it still yanks the bridge up too far
might be a spring issue then. If the springs aren't what they used to be, you might need ones with higher tension. Springs will lose their tightness after a while. This fix worked for mine. But yeah, it's not the best trem out there. Cheap metal and a design that most people don't quite get. I still prefer a FR over anything because all I need is a screwdriver to get that thing where it needs to be.
bro this is a life saver!!! thank you!! :)
Glad it helped! I just really got sick of replacing batteries.
Tried your fix on my 1985 dean . The screwdriver tip popped out before it come up into tune.. gonna try grinding it so it sits flatter under the screw . Tried it twice . Any ideas?
yeah, get the back end of the bit in there, not the tip. it will just fly out. If you have a small piece of square steel, that will work too.
@@rustyjorgensen still trying to find the right piece of steel .. Does your trem float after all this , or just dive ? How is the tuning stability ?
yeah. totally floats. tuning stability is decent. The thing to note with these bridges, they don't need much movement like a floyd to dive and pitch up, small movements are all it takes to get the same effect.
I had one on a JB player with built in wireless system. Best guitar I ever had except for the bridge. Cover songs by Metallica no problems but when I started playing Pantera the damn thing broke from heavy whammy use . Basically holding the guitar up by the bar and shaking it. Stupid pot medal materials. My dad welded it stationary but it wasn't the same after loosing the whammy.
Joe Rogan plays bass?
Awesome video. I have the same issue with my 88 Cort Superstrat and had given up on it. Now all I need is find one saddle as the thread for the tuner is stripped but I'm excited to get this project back on the bench. Thanks!!!
Lou, follow me over on Twitter @RustyJorgensen I have extras and can send you one.
Exactly same problem/ guitar here!
Fishman makes a nice universal lithium battery kit but it's 9v. Was just about to go that route on my Schecter SLS Elite Evil Twin 5 string since it has Fishman Fluence Soapbox pickups and electronics in it. This seems a little more my style tho. Lol
Oh and I also wanted to mention that I fly RC planes and have been using lithium batteries for quite a while. Don't ever use your batteries while charging them... For anyone that may not have already known that.
even crazier, I've noticed with these at least that if I try to use my wireless with them... no bueno. I have yet to test it with standard 9v batteries.
Awesome! Can i not just take the battery out to charge it? I have a hotswap thing, so its easy to change it. Rather not do all those fancy mods. Cool vid tho!
Yes you can! you do you, man. I'm not going to tell you what to do with your gear!
You should drill a hole in the battery door cover so you can see the charging light.
I had thought about that. But I know that if I have it plugged in for a few hours I’m good. But I may still do that.
dude im so gonna do this. I have an issue of my battery draining really fast (like within days) and I cant think of what it could be. Until I can figure out how to fix that, I think this is a great work around and be able to charge the battery while I'm not practicing and have it ready to go when I do need it. Im glad I found your video
Thanks. I just got sick of replacing 9v’s from being stupid and leaving my cable plugged in. I’m glad this is a solution for you.
Nice mod. I just got my 1st active bass. But the battery is in same pocket that the pots and shit are in.
Should make it WAY easier for you then!
@@rustyjorgensen There's not a lot of space. Battery is wedged in pretty tight. And is almost touching the box that thing that I assume powers the pick ups. No toggle of any kind to turn to passive. Power activates when plugging in cord.
Yup. That’s how mine is too. No toggle whatsoever. I lucked out with the space in the tone control cavity.
