Proud to have served in the Singapore Army in the 70's and 80's as a National Servicemen.

In my opinion, it is somewhat justified for the establishment of DIS. However, the SAF is already bloated with too many officers and may be becoming too few men at the ground for the work. It is becoming uneconomical to send a guy for 6 to 9 months of specialist/officer cadet training with only 2 years of national service. Anyway, I could have joined this outfit like my RSIS classmate as SLTC. I would also propose the merger of RSAF and RSN to create a integrated service for air-sea power projection with flexibility on deployment around this island for regional defence. Open secret with my experience for air to ground operations at the command staff if Spore is under attack, they would hit the airbases first which can be out like sitting ducks if there is no advanced warning by military intelligence with signal communications. That way, we can have 2 or 3 mini aircraft carriers with F35 which hold control for hundreds of drones as the force multiplier. That's the latest idea on swarm warfare with robots at the land, air and sea. From that conceptual logic, everyone is a commander and thus need to be smarter with machines to do the dirty job. Scary yet exciting. So females can also be included into national service as well. Or even possible to have a entirely voluntary professional force instead. In the bigger countries like USA, they are having space force for the final frontier - arguably the only right thing that Trump did as the C in C.
