While I enjoy modern GTA or at least respect how it changed things, I've never been able to see why early GTA gained a following as large as it did. London was the one I enjoyed most, but overall the games were very barebones and lacked depth, and played as something the game industry had already outgrown years ago. Carmageddon did vehicular rampages better, top down shooting was much better implemented in Fallout 1, and the twist of playing as a bad guy had already been done by Dungeon Keeper. The hype from other gamers I knew was puzzling me. I'd fire up London maybe once in a while when I needed to kill some time, but any serious attempt to play it was quickly dashed by the complete lack of any sense of direction, the ease at which you died, and the missions being damn near impossible if you didn't already know where you had to go and what you had to do. If it wasn't for Vice City or San Andreas, I don't think the series could have survived, and I'd have remembered Grand Theft Auto as an awful game I only tried when I was too mad to play some of my other regular time wasters. Thank Rockstar for changing things around for the 3D era.

I played GTA London on my PS1 back in my uni days, had to do the whole disc swap thing too lol Trouble is, GTA1 on the PS1 is a terrible port. I had already played and finished GTA1 on the PC and the best part of that game is the police chases, the cops are insane and when you get to open up the throttle, they attack you like a soar of eagles, it hilarious. This just doesn't happen on the PS1 version hardly at all if at all, and I noticed when playing GTA London that the cops never chased you, only appearing like you mentioned when you're on foot. I know you are only talking about the PS1 version here, but if you ever get the opportunity, def play GTA1 and London on PC for a far better experience.

I find it amusing that i do remember the game but not from playing it. Simply remembering it as the only GTA game i had never played or seen. So i guess today i have now seen the game for the first time, thanks for that i think. Keep up the good work!

5:50 I do feel you on the cars being "empty" and just asset flips. I think what REALLY drives that home is the damage model they included where parts fall off. But rather then seeing a trunk interior, it's just a black void. The suspension of disbelief is staring you right in the eyes that you're driving a model. Worst example IMO is Dave, where his camper top comes off and you can look inside and see, no one is driving. Also I had a part where I was going to explain it's because Vigilante 8 was a Spinoff from Interstate 76 but you covered that later in the video. As for issues with it, check out PCGamingWiki, most of the issues with I'76 stem from frame rate issues. Though the music one is due to a gog update apparently. 9:40 I find it interesting that part of your issues with the maps is they seem small when they're in fact MASSIVE, especially when you compare it to the original stages. Like big maps are alright, but when they're as big as in Arcade, there's just too much down time. Pair it with not enough decorations to distract you, or interesting item placement (FAIK they're all random always). And they end up being just empty. 12:57 Speaking on weapon visuals, just wanna say they're also much to harder to distinguish now. In the old games, you could tell a rocket from mines from a flamethrower as you were speeding towards it. In Arcade, they're either drum shaped or box shaped; the Bruiser Cannon (turret as you called it) is the only one visually distinct enough to make out reliably. So it probably is a good thing they kinda suck equally so it doesn't matter. As for the Charge Up function, that existed in the original except you achieved them by inputting a directional combo then firing the machine gun; like a special in a fight game. The Halo Decoy included, which would attract homing weapons to it instead of you so you can avoid damage. And I'm kinda surprised you had issue with the random weapon swapping. Because the game has two modes for firing weapons, one like the Classic which you were playing on, and an updated one where all three are available on the face buttons. Having seen speedruns of this game and played a bit myself, the random weapon dropping made sense with that system as it's just part and parcel. But didn't know it'd do that with classic too, vs how it use to get rid of what you had selected if you picked up something after three. So that's something new in sucking. Final bit I'm kinda surprised you didn't touch on either during the characters; or how there was only 5 maps; was how many characters are straight missing. And not just 2nd offence characters, but from the OG V8. So even as a pseudo remake to V8, it fails. It really rears it's head in the story mode, as you're constantly fighting clones (including people supposed to be on your side). And there's only three stages to complete, vs the 4 in the original. And while there were three DLC to return Sheila, Houston, and Loki, the first two are in their 2nd Offence design, while Loki went from a Jeep to a Tank. Clyde is straight Awol though. Supposedly it was due to download size limit but still ends up sloppy and makes the "why" as to this existing even bigger. PS. there's a Unity Remake of V8: 2nd offence. While it's got a bit to go rn it's playable.

😂 Mine is Goonies II. I really didn't know what to do, but everyone else seemed to have beaten it like it was another Tueaday for them. Baffles me to this day how they could have been so good at it.

Now thinking about it... I think I've never beat any of the 3 adventure island games on the nes... I should go back and finally test my pro gamer moves and finish all 3 lol

HA! I recognized what game you were gonna be talking about just from the preview pic! I played this game a lot as a kid. Probably the game I played the most on my NES after Super Mario Bros, SMB3, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3 (I didn't own SMB2 or any of the other Mega Mans as a kid).

Dude this was the same for me only with Super Mario Land for the Gameboy. I could never get past the damn submarine level and the fucking music was burned into my memory. Downloaded a ROM and completely trashed the entire game in like 45 minutes. At 6 years old I must've just been ass at videogames 😂

2:12 you know what I messed up Nintendo game is Marble Madness. You can't even beat the game there's like a dead screen so I had a Modded Xbox and I had the game on there and I had cheat codes so unlimited lives no timer I was me and my boy that played this as children we were like we are going to beat this game today later levels it gets to a point where it's impossible to do certain things can you get to the final stage Darkness you're just a marble that can't even move I even made the marble speed of it like go so fast it could barely move it was just a dead screen. No congratulations no thank you just nothing. I'm truly glad I got to do that with my friend because he passed away from bacterial meningitis. The same year he showed me an old school PlayStation game Castlevania Symphony of the Night. And man I wish she was still alive to see what two Heavenly swords do together but I'm sure he knows

No word of a lie this was my first touch of greatness. We first rented the little mermaid for a weekend and my older brother started to try to make me feel like i made the wrong choice. A girls game he argured, I said its Capcom makes Ducktails. Since he was being such a pain, I fully committed. Beat it the first day as maybe an 8 year old. Now since its such a short game I picked the wrong one again. So next morning I beat it agaim. Now my brother isn't barking anymore, he's noticing I'm unstoppable. He noticed I had only used a continue on the last level. Next attempt I almost beat it without dying. Now we are both begging Mom and dad to hold off on returning it just yet. One more run. Didn't get hit once, my first and best touch of greatness. A perfect run. I bought it years later and have since to make it past the second level. I have never given it more than 10 minutes of my time since.

Played this all the time along with Twisted Metal 2 as a kid. I actually didn't care much about fighting, just driving around and enjoy both the scenery and the music this game provides is more than worth the money I spent on this CD.

I like Overdose for how it occasionally crushes the player's balls on Trauma difficulty. OG Painkiller is woefully easy, but there's some actual combat puzzles in Overdose when you don't get health drops from the enemies, and a lot of said enemies deal tons of damage. I don't like how it lags to high heaven and how many invisible walls the maps have. If only they made a game marrying Overdose's difficulty with Black's architecture and optimization.
