I am confused. | Neo80 | BSUN Hornet Tactile Switches (Stock) | PBTFans Retro Dark Lights
First of all, I am really liking these switches so far. The feel especially stands out to me. I went back to my lubed Gateron Baby Kangaroos for a sec and they almost felt linear. It's not like these are the most tactile switches in the world, but they feel nice.
These switches are sounding more flawed with no foam. The leaf noise is way more pronounced but this is by no means the worst I have heard.
So, why am I confused? I don't get my brain lol. All of the sudden the Neo80 is sounding slightly metallic and/or hollow basically no matter what. Thankfully its not actually upsetting me or anything... I just don't get it. I don't get how I can hear things differently on different days. This build is a result of me seeing how it would sound with no foams because I got curious. It's actually not that bad, but I just don't like how the flaws of the switches are more pronounced.

This is the build I was excited to share. I have been using this for around 2 weeks now I think. I didn't like how bouncy the regular gasket dumbbells were, so I added the brass standoffs. I think it helped the feel a lot. The only downside is that there is a lot of desk noise now. I want to try the brass sandwich mount with o ring, but these switches are too loose so the o ring pops them out o...

    My sonnet on POM plate sounds hollow. as a workaround, I added polyfill but not happy with it. So I did 2 layers tape mod and did the trick... for now til I get a stiffer plate and maybe the foam kit. I also wanted to try the stack mount. I tried to get the cheapest possible option and now I regret it.

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is one of the cheapest options as well I think. Grey top, black bottom, black accent, alu weight. I don't know what I did to make it sound so good here to be honest. I did end up finding out that the sonnet is very picky with how its built though. If using isolated top mount you need to make sure the screws aren't too tight. The same goes for the case screws. The alignment of the case matters too. For good measure I ended up trying a force break under the weight as well as a force break where the bottom case slots into the top case. It seems that if the bottom case has too much contact with the top case (the little piece that slots in), the spacebar sounds super hollow. Stack mount can be fun, but in my opinion the same things still apply. It's not even a matter of skill issues, its just a really picky keyboard. It's annoying because I'm sure you and me both know how good the sonnet *can* sound.

    • @DadTech1981
      @DadTech1981 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@justanotherpxrson I agree with you 100% that the Sonnet is a picky board. I really want to like this board. It's aesthetically pleasing and probably my most premium board that fits the budget. However, I am just not that satisfied as it takes a lot of work to get it sounding right. Unlike cheaper boards specifically those from qwertykeys, they sound amazing without putting so much work into it (e.g. neo65, neo80, qk75n). Just put them together and call it a day kind of thing. For the price range of the Sonnet, I was expecting it to outperform but nah. Don't get me wrong, I still like it and will be investing on it to unleash its full potential.

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DadTech1981 I definitely agree. I have a neo65 and it is super impressive. Investing in a board to make it sound good can get into sunk cost territory very quickly though. I keep wondering if a copper weight would help, but I will not pay mode $80 for a tiny piece of copper.

    Hey, thanks for sharing your experience and sorry to hear about this disappointment. I recently started getting into the mechanical keyboards enthusiasts thing. Sorry to ask you but if you have a chance please can you try to help me on this one? I went to a Best Buy yesterday to try different switches. I tested a few different keyboards. Initially I thought that I was a linear switch person. I stand with that feeling after trying the first keyboards but then I tested the HypeX Aqua tactile switches and somehow I felt that it was the right fit for me. Those switches were smooth, light (I guess factory pre lubed), with light thocky sound, almost silent I'd say and with a little to nothing actuation tactile force against the fingers. My first inclination was to order thoses switches, well, they are not for sale. What are the tactile extreme super light pre lubed thocky (but almost silent) switches that you know that could be what I'm looking? Are those bellow in this category? - Kailh Speed Cooper - Akko Pom Brown - KTT Mallo - Gateron Mini I - TTC Silent Bluish White To summarize, I think I'm looking into a tactile switch that is almost a linear switch, very light bump and a thocky low sound signature.

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Its cool that my video was one of the first you found. I remember I tried hyper x aquas at best buy a couple of times, but its been a while. What I do remember is that they aren't silent to me at all. But then again, I didn't pay too much attention to sound with it being in a store. Silent bluish whites are literally a fully silent switch with silicone dampening on either the stem or inside of the housing (I forget how they silenced that particular switch). I had to look up kailh midnight pros just to be sure, but those are also a fully silent switch. Besides that, I think that your keyboard/configuration of choice will be just as important (if not more important) in getting that deeper sound you are after. I don't recommend anything by tecsee at this point (so, from this list, blue sky and neapolitan ice creams). Imo U4Ts are overpriced and overrated with what's on the market today. I would honestly need to go back to best buy and try those hyper x aquas again to really recommend something confidently. But off the top of my head, you *might* like something like a Gateron Quinn. If I remember correctly, they are more tactile than aquas, but you might enjoy the sound of quinns. The only issue is that while they are kind of on the deeper side, they aren't what I would call quiet. The factory lube also makes some of them mushy over time which is really annoying. If you want something with barely any tactility at all, honestly just grab some Gateron pro milky browns. They are really cheap, and the tactility is very light. But I am almost certain those are even less tactile than hyper x aquas. Long story short, I don't think there will be anything exactly like them unfortunately. And if there is, there are so many switches on the market that it would be nearly impossible to find the match. I hope some of this helps! Let me know if you have other questions and I will try my best to answer :)

      @@PocketCurios Oh my goodness, thank you so much. Yeah, my profile picture is the blue and orange fidgetboy shown in the video. I was going to try to not let facebook get much info on me, but linking it in any way to this youtube channel like I did kinda ruined that lol

      Thank you so much... I was really nervous to post this because I lowkey still feel silly for dropping money on what amounts to toys. I hope this same fire comes back for keyboards, but at least im not hating them right now either.

    Hey, I saw this switches on my local marketplace for $0.31/switch. Do you think its still a good option to purchase? I tried WS Brown they are really good, just wondering if this switch will be better ❤😊

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson ปีที่แล้ว

      31 cents is very decent imo. As long as you can comfortably afford it, they might be worth a shot at that price. Its been a while since I have used these so my memory isn't great tbh. WS browns have the same feeling that most haimu tactiles have, so I think that the taros might be different enough to warrant trying. But above all else, don't let fomo get to you :)

      @@justanotherpxrson WS Brown is litterally $0.34/switch so its not that big of a difference but I'll try the Taro switches anyway xd

    I don't think Jwick Taro are the same as T1. T1 seems to the a P shaped bump and Taro are a D shaped tactile switch. That should be the reason you enjoy them

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The only reason I made the comparison is because the divinikey product page calls the tactility similar to a t1.

      @@locklear308 Not particularly from what I remember. I dont have them anymore so I cant try them again, but I remember them sounding pretty plasticky and unrefined. But I am way too picky for my own good a lot of the time.

      @@justanotherpxrson Really? That's odd because they sound very marblely to me. Maybe they redesigned them a while back? Not sure, but I would say to try them again.

      That was me too not too long ago. Got a switch tester with over 40 tactiles and kept coming back to the taros. I've had these in my gmmk pro for the past 2 years now and I absolutely love them but I've definitely found some nice tactiles since then. Still can't seem to take these out the board tho, I just keep coming back. Only recently I found out these were unlubed switches too lol. At this point I'm so accustomed to the feel I refuse to lube them, it really is a unique typing experience.

    ty for the great vid! 😄 im looking for a good light tactile switch that’s not too loud and idk which to pick. would you recommend these bluberry chiffons over the gateron cap milky browns? or smthng else maybe?

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't get v1. I can't say anything about v2 as I haven't tried them, but the leaf noise is supposed to be fixed. I don't really like gateron cap switches because of the weird bottom out. I like gateron pro milky browns, but those are just about the lightest tactility you can probably get. A personal favorite of mine are KNC black jackets, but some people consider those medium tactiles, and the sound is very hit or miss. They are pretty quiet for a long pole though. I need to make a video on leobog browns too. Underrated af, but wouldn't fit the "not too loud" category most likely.
