United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ก.ย. 2024
This channel is all about simplifying your life after 40…not that everyone can’t benefit from it. 🌸💕 Having downsized myself, I’m passionate about reducing stress and saving money. Living differently does both.
We all have it…STUFF we've hung onto things for years...at this age, you might have 20-30 years of accumulation and you don't know where to begin. It's creating anxiety. I get it. It's time to reclaim your space and start thinking about what makes you happy. Maybe it’s more time to spend with friends & family or on your hobbies, exercise, eating better, reading, relaxing. For my family, it’s all of the above and travel… Whatever it is, YOU DESERVE IT!
I’ll help you clean, declutter, sell or donate your stuff, organize, decorate and shop differently. I believe you should keep what’s important to you & buy what you value….just not the rest.
You’re in the right place. Let’s downsize to UPSIZE!

@@Jelinofficial-sr1vf Thank you so much!! I’m working on a long deep clean, decluttering and organizing video right now and it’s going to be a biggie! It’ll post in the next few days. Can’t wait to hear from you on that one! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!! 🌸💕
My weird sentimental items were multiple dolls I made of actors and actresses from TV shows. It sounds strange, but when they multiply, they do take up a lot of room. I was able to connect with a surprising amount of the cast members, along with people associated with the show. I know they will be loved unconditionally, and I suppose they were meant to leave my possession. One even ended up being adopted by an actor's son and became his favourite toy!
@@nicoleh3703 What a great story! It’s an awesome example of passing something on to another person who absolutely loves and values it. I love that the one doll became the actors son’s favorite toy. When I hear a story like yours, it reminds me of what my dad said….about how letting things go made so many people happy. Thanks for sharing with me. If you get a chance, please watch the other 3 videos in the series and let me know what you think. 🌸 I hope you subscribed because I have a deep cleaning video coming out soon…hopefully Sunday. If you subscribe, you’ll get notified when my videos come out. All the best, Bren 💕🌸
PP’s 😂😂 I think we all spent too much on online shopping during that time! You have my brain spinning about the duvet covers and linens, blankets are one of my weaknesses and I have SO MANY! You’ve inspired me to go through those and only keep the ones I absolutely love!
@@Shareebysea GOOD FOR YOU!!! I still need to go through more, believe it or not, so I’m right there with you. At least the ones with stains, holes etc are easiest to get rid of. I almost didn’t put the PP comment in but it’s so true! Money was flying out the door at that time. 😂 Thanks so much for sharing!! 🌸💕
I ran across this video on my feed, and I have to say thank you. I'm always one who declutters something random when I watch decluttering videos. I'm a Dungeons and Dragons player, and recently got a figure custom made. It was 3D printed by a friend. It was very kind of them to do it for me. However, for the second time, a figure from the site has broken on me. This is the second design that has failed to withstand a set of dice hitting it. I decided to declutter it while watching this, since I know from experience that they are too fragile for my storing habits. I have a huge amount of indestructible knockoff figures, so I'll just be using them from now on. I may be stuck with mostly half warthog figures, but I'll be saving money and clutter by not purchasing more things I know will break.
@@nicoleh3703 You are the BEST for sharing this with me. My hope is that I help people with their decisions and comments like yours keep me going. I hope you get a chance to watch all 4 of the videos in this SERIES. I think it’s fantastic that you decluttered something fragile that won’t hold up and keep the ones that do in your collection. We often times feel a great obligation to keep things people give us, but doing what’s right for you is most important! I hope you subscribed because I’m posting a deep cleaning video on Sunday and you’ll get notified if you subscribe. 😊 All the best, Bren 🌸💕
You hit a nerve with the linen section. I have so many quilts and table linens. I have napkins that are brand new that we haven’t even used yet and one set that I forgot I bought. Time to reflect, for sure. Thanks for the reminder. Great tips in this video but I choose to ignore the Bundt pan section since I have a whole kitchen shelf of Nordicware Bundt pans in every size imaginable and I’m not ready to admit that it’s excessive since I still want to buy the skull and bunny pans. 😊 small steps.
@@twonder4 I love it! Good for you on ignoring the Bundt pan section. I don’t think you should get rid of any of those! And if you want to add the skull and bunny pan, you should because those are items you enjoy and use. That’s really what it’s all about. Balance. But you’re totally right to part ways with the napkins that are brand new and never used…you probably will never use them. Get rid of those and make room for the Bundt pan collection. 🥰 All the best, Bren 🌸💕

@@maws1113 Awwww….yep, sounds like you and your dad had the same relationship as me and my dad. He was my best friend. It was quite a loss. I’m determined to decluttering my Christmas decorations. I’m 71, and I’m probably not going to have more energy for lugging in 10 totes full of stuff and taking three to five days to get everything displayed in future years. My goal is to get it down to 4 small easily carried totes. That way, I think I’ll look forward to the holidays instead of dreading the work ahead😊 Good video, thanks!
@@gailwhite8796 Thank you for commenting! That’s exactly what happened to me! I always look forward to Christmas, but all the totes of decor was wearing on me. The "sunk cost fallacy" was a revelation to me when I finally accepted that the money was already wasted when I made the purchase. It took me a long time to dig in to declutter. I would have it in my head that on so and so day I would dig in. Well I got all pumped up but as soon as I opened a closet door to tackle it, I became suddenly overwhelmed and ended up closing the door. Eventually I started with decluttering a drawer. That was manageable and got me on a roll to tackle the closets. I would always tell family and friends please don't buy me anymore cloths or Nick knacks. How many shirts or pants should a person own ? Not that many that you only end up wearing the shirt once a year. Too much ( stuff ) causes me terrible anxiety, plus my family was not honoring my request, which added to my anxiety. I like neatness and order and it seems they would load me with stuff they didn't want. I'm feeling so much better knowing I regained control over my clutter situation.
@carolsipala1639 I’m so happy for you that you regained control. I’m right with you on your point about having too much stuff & it causing anxiety. I think your family has great intentions and they don’t want you to feel left out when gift giving occurs. Have you tried asking them to give you consumable gifts vs physical items? That way, they can still gift your something, but it won’t stick around your house forever. You’re right, how many pants or shirts do we need. Why over 40 ?😮😮😮
@@inthevortex-de1rh Thank you for your question. This particular series is focused on people over 40 who have years of built up clutter that they haven’t dealt with ever. I cannot recommend enough that if declutterring and downsizing is on your agenda, please do NOT wait too long to begin the process. I kept telling my husband that I needed to retire because I knew all the work I had ahead of me to begin downsizing. Instead, there were always reasons I needed to stay running the office just a while longer in our business. As it turned out, I did not retire until I was 69 yrs old. Soon after my husband began having major health problems that he recovered from, but the recovery was long and slow and took a great deal of nursing time from me. Then I began having medical issues that also took over a year to recover from. Now arthritis in my hands and back greatly interfere with my efforts to continue declutterring and deep cleaning to sell our large home. I get very depressed and discouraged because of how little I can do now without causing myself great suffering. I truly regret not retiring sooner, even two years earlier than I did, when I knew how much awaited me at home and I stilled had the health and energy to tackle it. If you face this sort of dilemma regarding professional need versa personal need, please choose personal. You will be so much better off in the end and you won’t regret your decision.
@brendaw.7597 Thank you SO much for sharing your story. It WILL help people who read it. You have been through a lot. ❤️ Have you considered enlisting the help of a family member or even a teenager in your family or neighborhood to help you with the physical aspects of your decluttering efforts? I retired from teaching in 2021. I got rid of some school clothes but kept some that I really like. Now I substitute teach occasionally and I’m glad I still have some of my school clothes. My problem is with the dressier stuff: graduation, wedding etc. I need to select an item to be buried in (just kidding I’m leaning towards cremation) Anyway I need to get into that closet and clean house on the dressy stuff, then I can store quilting fabric in its place until I get to those projects. The 3RD one will be posted on clothes this week and the final in the series will post next week on household items. Then around New Year’s Day, I’ll be posting a whole house deep clean. I think from your comment, that you might find all of these videos useful. You can even have me on while you’re going through your items for some company. I hope you subscribed because I have a ton of videos planned and I’d love to hear from you again. Thank you so much for sharing! All the best, Bren 💕🌸
This is going to be our Winter project to go through. things and declutter.. Some of these things make for a very hard decision but as you said, will I really miss them
@@karenaleman2059 I’m very happy for you! Winter is a perfect time to go through your stuff and declutter. If you get stuck on an item, just set its side and keep moving. You can circle back to the hard decision item later. Sentimental items can be especially difficult. Last week, I released the 2ND episode in this series (this one you watched is the 1ST). I hope you subscribed because the last 2 episodes in the series will be released this week and next. Then….right around New Year’s Day, I’ll be posting a whole house deep cleaning video. You’re going to do great on parting ways with things! Your home will feel so good to you when you’re done. All the best, Bren 🌸💕
Thank you. I'm going through this right now. The hardest stuff to get rid of are the items that have a family back story to it that is precious. But you're right, our kids do NOT want our crap (their words for it).
@@deborahdevane6330 I love it! We are a family that uses the word crap, too! 😂 I think of it like this: they can take what they want, but they also deserve to get things that speak to their taste and make them feel good. Sounds like you know exactly what I mean. I hope you’re subscribed, because I’ll be releasing episode 3 on clothes in this series this week and the 4th and last episode of this series will be the following week on household items. The second one was on sentimental items in case you missed it. Way more to come after that, too. All the best, Bren 🌸💕
Didn’t need to know a medium size shirt was just too big for you. Sigh. Nice video though. I really need to go through all the clothes I will just never wear again. A curated and thoughtful closet would be so wonderful
@@ellencourtney7187 Sorry about that. 🥰❤️. You are in luck…because part 3 in this series will be posted this week! And guess what? It’s on CLOTHES. It’s something we all struggle with believe me. I hope you subscribed, so you get notified when it’s released. The 4th and final episode in the series will be on household items. Then around New Years, I’ll be doing a deep house cleaning video. If there are any topics you want discussed, please feel free to let me know. Thanks for commenting. All the best, Bren 🌸💕
Great video! And great selection of baseball books you had there ❤😊
@@jgrence2000 yes , 😂 my husband loves baseball books! Thanks so much for your comment!
Yes they were! Noticed that immediately 😊
I agree with the picture hack, I’ve done it. It works. You get to keep the memory but able to physically let things go.
@@Green4CloveR Yep! I think being in the present also contributes to letting things go. If you want a space that fits your life now, parting ways with things will be much easier….if that makes sense. I hope you’re subscribed, because I’ll be posting 2 more videos in this series: clothes and household items and then around New Year’s Day, I’ll be posting a deep house cleaning video. All the best, Bren 🌸💕
Replacements pays so low though, don’t they? How is it even worth it?
@@nunya257 That’s a great point. Here’s the answer. It depends if they have too much of your pattern of dishes. For me, mine was more rare and fetched a higher price. Even within a pattern some pieces are valued higher than others. They give you a quote and you are not obligated to sell to them if you are not happy with their offer. Thanks for your thoughts. 😊🌸💕
It's the spatula for me best multi-use i've seen this month
@@oldanduncouth Awwww thank you! 🌸💕 My daughter got me this shirt and it was not cooperating with the mic so I thought what can I use. 😆 I hope you subscribed, so you can get notified, because I just released the second video in the series and two more will be coming out over the next few weeks. All the best, Bren
Took me half the video to realize why she was holding a spatula. 😂
I just saw your video and subscribed. Love your content.
@@Pam-ue3qc Thank you so much! It’s so appreciated! 2 more videos will be releasing in my series of What I Wish I Knew Before Starting to Declutter over the next 2 weeks. I hope you’ll get a chance to watch the first ones before they hit and let me know what you think! All the best, Bren 💕🌸
I love how you put the mic on a spatula. Genius!
@@JeanKLYOW 🥰 Thank you so much! I love to wear these cute shirts my daughter found for me, but even my little mic rolls on this type of shirt, so I had to come up with something. 😂 Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you’re subscribed because I just released the second video in this series and the final 2 will post over the next 2 weeks. Around New Year’s Day, I’m going to release a deep cleaning house video. You have a wonderful day!!! All the best, Bren 🌸💕
I'm 39 as I write this, but I'm always open to decluttering rips! Most of these, I already knew, so thanks for the confirmation and reminder. 😁 Just putting this out here, though: Always ask your kids/grandkids if they want your stuff (like you did). There were certain things of my grandmother's that I wanted (including a ring she promised me when I was little), but most of her personal possessions disappeared after she died. Probably my uncles took them to the thrift shop. Thankfully, there were still plenty of mementos left when my family went to help clean out the house (including Grandma's wedding gown and Grandpa's Navy uniform from 1944!)...but it would have been nice if my uncles had waited until all the family could have a say. /RANT Your advice is helpful and very logical--liking this video so I can come back to these tips when I need a refresher. 😊 Thanks for sharing!
@@rrgoodwill2914 Thank YOU so much for sharing! It is so unfortunate when those in charge of estates don’t consider the entire family. They should have been more thoughtful than they were! I’m sorry that happened to you! ❤️ I don’t know why that is. My aunt gave me my grandmothers ring. I was so touched by that. Apparently, my grandma told her she wanted me to have it and my aunt remembered. I found a picture of her wearing that ring when my uncle was born. ❤️ It must’ve meant a lot to her. I’m glad you found my channel. I’ll be posting 2 more videos in this series over the next few weeks. One on clothes and one on household items. Then on New Years Dat, I’ll be releasing a deep cleaning and organizing house video. Next time I do a video….maybe I’ll say I this will help everyone especially if you’re over 40 bc I don’t want to exclude anyone for sure. The over 40 crowd really struggles with this stuff though so that’s why I said it. Thank you for understanding and still watch it even though you’re 39. 😅😂 All the best, Bren 🌸💕
Great advice! Definitely not worth keeping something just because you inherited it. You also need to love it or use it.
@@ellenmeents So glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate your comment! I learned the hard way on some things for sure. Glad to be on the other side of it. One thing comes to mind is my dad had expensive binoculars but I would never use them. After two years of holding onto them, I sold them and put the money toward travel. In fact, that is one of the things I tell myself when parting ways with something (I wish I would’ve included that 😂). Would I rather keep this item or use its worth to travel. Prioritizing has worked for me. I hope you subscribed because I’ll be posting 2 more videos in this series: clothing and household items. Then on New Year’s Day, I’ll be posting a deep cleaning house video. All the best, Bren 💕🌸
I really like how you divided up the categories and talked about each one individually and how you deal with them slightly differently. I have watched A LOT of videos about clearing sentimental clutter and this is by far the best! Thank you!
@@donnav You absolutely made my ENTIRE day…& it’s just starting so that’s awesome. ☀️😊 Due to the fact that I struggled so much with sentimental items, I also struggled with how best to relay this information to others going through the same experiences. Knowing that you found value in how I formatted this information just makes me so happy! The other 2 videos in this series (clothes and household items) will be posting in the next 2 weeks and on New Year’s Day, I’m going to be releasing a deep cleaning video. I hope you’re subscribed, so you get notified when they come out. All the best, Bren 🌸💕

When I saw you with the bear, that made me really stop and think. My husband hates to get rid of old toys that have some monetary value yet they sit in tubs in the basement. He never even looks at them!
@@nonnieTerri Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! A lot of people are like your husband. The only thing in my bin (I really pared down) is my wedding stuff if my kids want it one day, a bag of cards and drawings from my kids and husband, a few things from my mom like her shirt and my baby blanket my grandma made me. All other items, I have out or use. That was not always the way I was though. It took time. Your husband may come around to a new way of thinking one day. There will be 2 more week’s of videos in this series: clothing and household items. On New Year’s Day, I’ll be posting a giant house cleaning video. Hope you’re subscribed, so you’ll get notified. I love you split up the types of sentimental items and explained each type! Usually people just lump them all together.
@@jaclynhinkle3046 You’re welcome! They are all different types of items to us. Some I was able to part ways with way easier than others. A very timely video! We're just about to start downsizing, and categorizing things in this way will make it easier. There are definitely a lot of decisions that we'll need to make with our kids. Thank you for the insights.

@@Shareebysea love it! That’s right! I did keep some of the things my kids chose not to, but not much. They always hated the two white ceramic heads they made in art class that I put in the video, so I finally let them get rid of them. 😆
