Multi day walk in Monongahela NF featuring Canaan Mtn, the Rorbaugh Plains, Red Creek Plains, and the Roaring Plains. In West Virginia, rocky mountaintop plateaus are often referred to as “plains”. Such environments are extremely boggy; essential habitat for wildlife, and the source of clean water for the watersheds below.

An early Sunday morning revisit to a classic Cuyahoga Valley hike. 9.7 mile loop on the Buckeye Trail and Towpath from Boston Mill to Jaite. The Buckeye from Boston up to Blue Hen Falls was recently rerouted and refurbished to make it more sustainable and is an absolute gem of a hike.

Wonderful week of Cabin living in the Allegheny Mountains with Fantastic Pam, and our Puggle, Sprout. Our first stay was at Blackwater Falls SP near Davis WV in the wilds of Monongahela NF. Then we ventured North to the Raystown Lake area near Huntingdon, PA.

It had been awhile since I’d been there. My route was a combination of trails previously hiked and ones new to me. Without fail the familiar always presents itself in fresh and new ways. Hiking the Mon never gets old. Thanks for watching

Nice trail! Are there any camping near that trail?
Yes. A few miles North on the BT in the MetroPark Brecksville Reservation. Reservable Backpack sites at Ottawa Point. Would love to get the Tramily up there some weekend.

Ansel! You were about 20 minutes from my house! I grew up in the Mt. Union area. Been up those steps hundreds of times as a kid! I now live about 30 trail miles from the Steps. The SST is just over 2 miles from my house at a mountaintop crossing. Hope you enjoyed your visit. If ya ever come back let me know, I can take you to some very sweet spots! Lots of hiking here!! 🙂👊🏻
Mary Ellen! Good to hear from you Brother! Yes, we’ve become regular visitors to the Huntingdon area. I’m just getting my feet wet exploring the trails. Fantastic Pam has family in the area and likes to do genealogy research while we’re there. It all makes for a nice trip. I’ll definitely reach out on the next one. Happy trails!

A friend and I were camped at the Forks Shelter about 2 weeks ago. We hiked in via Tea Creek Trail on a Friday and then, on Saturday, we hiked on up Tea Creek trail to Boundary Trail and hiked it for about 2 miles. We then turned around and backtracked to camp. We hiked out on that Sunday morning We hung our hammocks out in front of the shelter. It was so nice and peaceful. We only saw 6 people fishing, and those were on Friday. Thank you for sharing!

Tarp Tent Notch. Love this tent. Only advice is carry a good map and compass, start slow and go slower. Happy trails and thanks for watching!

Nice! I have not been out that way since year before last. Maybe I can squeeze it in this week; hike high and camp low in case of a storm. My pups first backpack was out the Hidden Passage to the overlook. It was calm early, then all wind hell broke loose. Figured my food bag would be in Petersburg by morning. Glad to see you too made it out this weekend. I was a nice one.
