    I disagree, as an artist, creating crazy visuals isn't hard when you know what your doing, but it still takes way longer than just writing out. Detailing the surroundings, feelings, and thoughts of a character will give people something of more substance and give their brain something refreshing (like nutrients for your brain). Also a story will not hold any weight in the long run if its only visuals, i personally think people wanna see "better" visuals because they want something that raises their dopamine levels (so take this with a generous amount of salt), they want everything to be laid out Infront of them. In a world where anime and visual manga are the new norm, its hard to get truly original stories and for artists to easily cultivate their own original ideas. With the world how it is now people already avoid reading enough, i also think if you wanna feel in tuned with a story it needs to be mostly in words, to let your imagination be the visuals. sorry if this doesnt make any sense i dont really know how to put these thoughts into words!!! {also no hate towards your video i think its pretty good}

    • @animeechoess
      @animeechoess 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your comment and i think you articulated yourself well. I'll be responding to a few of the points. I personally don't think visuals = more dopamine ( i know you don't mean this 100%, like you said take it with grain of salt), visuals don't just provide a hit, they provide a feeling tone, a certain stillness, visual information etc. And i also don't like to exclude pleasure from the equation as someone who thinks there are standards to pleasure and it is something to be cultivated. I also don't think more information about surroundings/ emotion and thoughts = more substance. Sometimes it is substance and sometimes its just "activity" and serves no purpose and requires editing to cut things to make a tighter script. As for people reading less, that isn't a cause i care about personally and for comics/manga, i don't think imagination should be doing the work. It's a visual medium, so it needs to be one. This video isn't about novels. I'm speaking to a specific ratio of words to panels. I'm an artist too and i think presenting things more appealing should be done regardless of the time constraint. (I'm saying this in a vacuum, not as someone with deadlines to meet etc) Like id prefer less "content" in a chapter if its presented to me in a more aesthetic way. You can have the same amount of dialogue, but have the number of pages be longer. That's my preference. More visuals to accompany the dialogue. Thanks again for the comment, I appreciate it.

  • @bonfyrestories
    @bonfyrestories 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I totally agree. To be fair, if a mangaka has to meet a weekly deadline, it is easier to write a bunch of speech bubbles than drawing an extra panel or page. A page with a lot of speech bubbles violates the "show, don't tell" rule and it slows down pacing which makes the storytelling less cinematic. Manga creators should look to movies and movie storyboarding to make manga more cinematic. For example, manga underutilizes "insert" shots or "dirty" (deliberately including foreground elements like parts of props, set pieces, or other characters) shots to convey information: a shot of a blood stain shirt can mean the MC got into a fight, a wine broken glass can mean a character was angry, military uniform can mean a character has combat skills, a frame degree from MIT can mean the character is an intelligent scientist, etc. "A picture is worth a thousand words" so the right panel can replace a lot of manga exposition.

    • @animeechoess
      @animeechoess 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a good point about Mangaka having to meet weekly deadlines, though even the monthly ones will use a lot of dialogue mushed together. and yea you're right, there's a lot of ways to provide exposition through visuals.

    A character design does say alot of the character and what that character stands for.. I like how you mentioned the clothes we wear as individuals and tying it to how important character design is.. Aesthetic does also play a part of well the mood of how the story centers the character.. It's a cool topic that you brought up that made me think a little bit.. Overall its a good video!! 👍

    So much of the character design can decide the way the story goes. Design can really shape the story all together. Like for example (no spoilers ofc) shadow is the exact opposite of sonic even in looks. It really helps with those moments in which the two characters team up and work together. It reenforces the idea that “you live and learn” yk? I really love what you are doing with your videos man. Keep the good content comin

    • @animeechoess
      @animeechoess หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea that's true, great point in how it effects story telling. That sonic example is great because their opposing colours can show that they can't get along, but shadow and sonic having a similar character outline which could also imply that they have some commonality that makes them work together. (I dont know much about sonic but i hope that resonates) Both different but the same. Thanks, glad you're enjoying them.

Hmm intent, it kind of just came out, but if i had to give a reason, then i wanted to draw a movie scene where someone decides to move their umbrella away to provide themselves the joy of rain falling on their face to feel something. I feel as though a lot of it comes from a sense of pride and not wanting the work they've done to be brushed off as merely talent. So what you end up getting is a lot of people that will outright deny that talent exists even as they bear witness to 4-5 year olds perform hyper realism with ball point pens. Now of course I dislike the other extreme of the spectrum as well, the idea that if you have "no talent at all" then something isn't worth pursuing. I had zero talent in drawing, so in order to make up the difference I had to hyperfocus and really buckle down. 6-10 hours everyday doing very deliberate practice and drills. Maybe I didn't have a talent in art, and maybe there's some kid who just has a natural sense of spacial form, color, and aesthetics and the kind of crazed focus and love for what he does that can fuel them in ways that I can't even begin to imagine. But that doesn't mean I can't improve, nor does it mean the kid won't one day slack off and get rusty. Their potential peak and my potential peak could be wildly different, but that doesn't mean either of us are actually guaranteed to reach our peaks. Basically this is a long winded way of saying: talent exists, it's a simple fact of life. Now are you going to cry about it or are you going to do what you want to do regardless?

  • @marsicorn

      I feel like I've found something through art, but i also feel like im discovering more talents as time goes. I think there's this expectation to find "one thing" or "something", but as cliche as it sounds, that curiosity of how one is enlivened by something is the key. So instead of trying to find something, be willing to explore many things and then "define" what parts of that enlivened you. Note those things down and as you keep going you'll discover a pattern and that pattern is your talent. It probably wont look like what you think it would. Also doing multiple things is a talent too. Not everyone can do that. its a bit abstract and i might do a vid on this soon to explore it more.

      @@animeechoess sometimes I think one of my "talents" is how I can do my 9to5 with dedication and focus and excitement. But years of therapy helped me realize that a big part of it is actually an unhealthy side-effect of an anxiety disorder. There's still something underneath that I'm truly good at, but anxiety brings it to the level where it's praised and unsustainable. That's super interesting and quite frustrating at the same time. The pattern part moves something deep in my brain but I can't quite grasp it yet. Hope I'll see it clearer at some point, so that I can use it to boost my art studies. Looking forward to the video!

    Another junk railroad as well as the side stories for the anime (not including the parts that were re-imaginings of events they had to skip over for time in the main 13), was based on a radio drama that was going on at the time Baccano was in production. It was later expanded and collected into Volume 14 (is actually a collection of short stories with the narrative framework of two (later three) characters exchanging stories to get more information about something else they're interested in, and expands on some details about prior events between years 1931 to 1934 (it's taking place in 1934)). The Baccano DS game further expands on the details as one of the accounts as well (since Upham has no clue who the hell the two nutjobs fighting in front of him are) with a secret reveal that was set-up all the way back in Volume 3 about the true identity of "Victor Talbot" on the Flying Pussyfoot.

    I liked this video but yeah for the adapted volumes volume 4 is my favorite but yeah I can't wait for your overall thoughts on volume 5 because maiza and czeslaw where some of my favorite characters from that volume plus some other characters that are the ones maiza was looking for. Plus yeah luck,eve,edith,and Kate where some my favorites so I can't wait for those analysis videos.

      Thanks! Volume 4 is pretty great! I'm actually reading through volume 5 right now and enjoying it quite a bit, im a fourth of the way in. Glad you liked those same characters! Kate specifically kind of blew me away in just her short screen time.
