My videos seem to now be focusing on sailing, either dinghy or yacht sailing. Nancy and I enjoy both. We came to sailing late, it was a retirement challenge for us, one which we have really taken to

Great Dave. It's 40 years since we did that sail, a bit quieter in those days but it's still beautiful!
Thanks for the comment. This was end of season - I can't imagine how busy it must be mid-season. I heard stories of how it is to find a place to anchor in some areas
@@DaveJohnEllis Makes me glad we sailed it when we did. We could tie our 13 yachts up in Kas Town harbour in 1984!
Nice clip 🙌🏽🙌🏽. We loved Oban and Kerrera.
Great video Dave... We are researching a new charter destination outside of the BVI and the Abacos that we have done several times... This was great info! Subscribed to follow your channel... Cheers! Jillian and Brian
Thanks for the comment. For the 2 years previous we chartered in St Vincent and the Grenadines, which we loved. Some of the islands were recently hit by hurricane but are slowly recovering. There are videos on the channel if it's somewhere you might continue.
Lovely video shame about that god dam music
I notice that mine might be the thirteenth like of your holiday, as many would say the 13th is unlucky, however, I was not only born on the 13th but am proudly a Yorkshireman. And their is absolutely nothing unlucky about that...
Thanks for the vid. As a sailer I am missing the sailing part as wind, time, speed, tide … .
Hi Dave- Looking at booking this year. What time of the year was this please?
It was 3 weeks, end of Sept, beginning of October, weather was a bit variable which made the sailing more exciting but would definitely go this time of year again. Better earlier if you want more consistent weather.
Thx. Tell me about the BBQ? Was that something on the boat? Have been on a few sailing holidays flotillas but never seen any BBQ!
@@alisimmons2844 it was our own clip on BBQ we took out with us and bought charcoal locally. At other times BBQs have been banned by local councils due to fire risk but this year was ok
Dave, this is really good. Oh how I love listening to Ronald Binge. Your narration style is excellent and the content is really informative. Well done mate, thank you.
i am so enjoying with your lovely footage... wow lovely , and food looks yummy .....
GREAT !
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing.
Great video. I think the only improvement would have been to say how much each stay at each marina cost you. Those of us on a budget would appreciate that.
une belle croisière je connais bien cette région qui est malheureusement pas assez connue des Français il me reste Brighlingsea a découvrir en mai 2024 j'espère bravo pour film très bien fait
Merci beaucoup
Thank you for taking me with you in your adventures
I live there Dave its paradise. I have an apartment if anyone wants to come and stay
Beautiful
Gratis video! Thank you guys!
Thank you for sharing. We spent five weeks and also looking forward to go back .
Lovely yacht and great drone footage. ~~~_/) ~~~
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering about those visitors moorings, how does that work? Do you have to call the marina to ask or? Blessings from Norway.
Thanks for watching. Where we used Marinas and stayed on a pontoon we generally called in the morning to say we were coming that afternoon or evening. Where we used Visitor Mooring buoys we just turned up. We never had a problem, in most cases there was a fallback of being able to anchor nearby if the visitor moorings were taken but never had to do that. We used the sailing guides produced by Clyde Cruising Club and these gave excellent information on anchorages and on navigation, including the important tidal information. (Guides available from Amazon). It was good to see so many Scandinavian boats in the area (early July)
Great content, sailed here with family in westerley centaur. I think in 70’s
Our lovely peaceful village
Is there any clam digging on the beaches in Mauritius?
It looked like there was swordfish on the counter at the market!
Is there air conditioning in the buildings in Mauritius?
This is island.. i see the map.

Lovely to watch as I shall be doing a similar trip myself in our first cruising year after buying our first boat. Just a point that everyone gets wrong, but having lived there for a number of years, its pronounced FOY not fow-ee. If you had taken your dingy ride a little father up river to Golant, there is an amazing hotel restaurant there, wont mention the name but well worth a meal if you have the time.
Very nice video. Thank you for posting. I'd love to do a similar trip one day. This season we are planning to sail to Cherbourg over one of the long weekends in May (weather permitting). You say, that the check out was not great? Was it the location specific or is it the new reality in general unfortunately? Fair winds!
Dieppe was not set up for the new process. You had to go to the ferry terminal where they would fit you in when there was someone there and they were not busy with the twice daily ferry to the UK. It meant wasted journeys and hanging around a lot. Whereas Cherbourg used specific port police to do the formalities and they were very well set up and efficient for both checking in and out. So location specific, need to do some research before you choose your ports. Apparently Calais is poor as well.
Thank you for the reply.
Nice video, the views around blue lagoon are spectacular! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for taking me on your sailing trip along the English coast
Hey, i'd like to sail in sporades during june/july. Just wondering something : how was the wind during your trip ? not too much violent ? thanks a lot
Hi, our experiences in the Sporades have been in early and late season so then the winds were stronger as were the waves but still manageable. This should not be the case mid season for you. It will always be windier than the Ionian, but that can be a good thing
I don't want to rub salt into the wound (as the translation of a German idom runs, don't know, if it's existing in English), but I'm unable to understand the names of the most places, mentioned in the video. I'm not familiar with the English south coast and it is a foreign language for me. Our boat is in the Netherlands and I definitely would like to go to France and the UK once angain. We have been in Lowestoft and Southwold by boat from Ijmuiden. Unfortunately we soon had to go back to the Netherlands due to forecasted 8 Bft, limited time ot vacation and a way backwards over the open North Sea. With 65 I'm going to finish working by the end of March, so the time problem will be gone.
Very nice. Cheers from Annapolis USA!
Weird to see the house I grew up in on a stranger's TH-cam video, but it made me smile. Thanks for this.

Dear Dave and Nancy, what a lovely video. We are going to explore sailing in Greece (around Lefkas) in 1 week. After watching your video we can’t wait to go there. Cheers from the Netherlands
Planning on doing this route next year, so very helpful. Thanks

Krása 🌸 děkuji 🌷🕊️
Great fun, I’m sure we were in there somewhere!! See you next year
I remember you passing us at 4:10 - I was on the classic 1815, (Lady of Hamford) on the leg between st cats and Bembridge. The boat is 39ft long but only 26ft on the water line so we struggle downwind. (not to mention 18tons)
Nice boat, It was a good day
Good vid.. PS. Nice to see someone else still wearing his BAR cap with pride too! :o)
very nice
Thank you. It all looks so nice and calm it almost makes viewers forget the level of expertise and planning that is required to make it so. Bravo.
Thank you for the inspiring tour along the South Coast. I am preparing to vising with my boat this summer.
Thank you, take a look at Part 2 for more of the south coast, a wonderful place to sail
