Darren Field had a Solo act From 2007 - 2009. Former Midnight Oil Show (Sydney tribute Band) Front-man, He Impersonated Alice Cooper, Gary Numan, Axl Rose, Elvis, Peter Garrett in a tongue in cheek Solo Club/Pub Performance. This was a Promo DVD Sent out to Venues & Agents.
This is a really good interview with Rob. When I first listened to The Dead Heart and only recently found out the title was included in the song towards the end. To hear him explain how this song was created is genius and shows what a great musician and drummer he is. Ironically I first heard this song in an aerobics class and was in love with it. It lead me to listening to more of the Oils music. I really can appreciate this and listen to the Oils music. Such a great Australian band from a US citizen!
midnight oil is like, the most MUSICAL band. this is the freakin DRUMMER
Insanely cool
Just a fantastic song!
"Better to live on your feet than to die on your knees" is never more relevant than today. Nice remix
One of Australias greatest songs.
That song is masterfully arranged..
love this
I don't care what anyone else says, I think Rob is one of the best drummers out there. The Oils truly a sum greater than their parts, but any weak link would have been detrimental to the band. Rob certainly elevated the bands music.
Legend 🙏🙏🙏
Great remix true to the original and then some!
So many of the elements that he's describing here are EXACTLY the way that I've been emotionally reacting to this jewel of a song for years. Infinite space. The desert. Pretty wild that this thing can still bring me to tears after all these years and listens...
David...me too. The more I listen to this song the more I learn...have you heard the Mtv Unplugged version with the didgeridoo/yadaki...? It takes it to a higher level.
Mix of medieval europe (99% indentured servants) juxtopized with modern colonial europe??
Notice especially how white man care not for this entire comment: The Dead Heart: Anyone ever notice the artists in this band are all white caucasian, the band name has OIL, and combine these facts with the lyric "White man came and took everyone" and the fact that the majority of oil rigs are owned by white man. The ironies. Remember Sarah Palin "drill baby drill".. lets put a stronger suction system while we are at it, we are not getting every drop!
The Oils always very conceptual and thoughtful about their songs. Great to hear this background.
HOW GOOD IS THIS
Ah Rob...You are an exemplary human being and true Australian...Thank you for your music and heart and mind and humor xx
Now there's someone I'd love to jam with playing some Oils tunes. Still remember vividly the day it was released.
Love this tune,,, I bought the single,, and still have it 😎
Fascinating... wonderful to hear how this iconic song was built. Thanks for sharing! Superb! Thanks for posting. This guy is a legend. Should have an OAM

Rob is so talented.
M<>Y freshman years 87-88 with help of MTV Q 104.3 I mentally SURVIVED with the The Dead Heart Lord here our prayer
One of my drumming heroes,my sister introduced me to the Oils a bit late with the album A Place Without A Postcard but when the song No Time For Games played on the radio every now and then,I was mesmerised, they had different elements to their music, punk, straight Aussie rock and even prog rock.
legend
Muito bom! Obrigado por compartilhar seus conhecimentos!!!...
2019 e não perdeu a essência!!!
Alright who are the assholes who gave this video the thumbs down? Rob is a legendary drummer and musician. I can't stand musical ignorance..
Midnight Oil faz parte da minha vida!
When he first brought it in it was originally called Black Stump Stomp.
Musicians are manic. Thank fuck for musicians.
Go Rob
Love this - the creative genius at work. This band are awesome and so underrated.
This guy is a legend. Should have an OAM

whats a OAM?
Saw them may 4 2002 at the boulder kinetic fest was so glad I saw them got into their music in the 80's. it was surging a great show!!!!
I don't have a guitar here to check, but by the looks of it I think these are the chords. Verse's Bm (could be a B5 power chord )Bm - A- G- F#m - D - ABm - do do do do part he talks about ( E*, B, F#, B, B*,E*) * = Open strings.Chorus- looks like this.Bm barre chord on 7th fret E, A triad on 5th fret. Bm barre chord on 7th fret , E, A barre chord on 5thBm barre chord on 7th fret E, A triad on 5th fret. Bm barre chord on 7th fret - E- A barre chord on 5thBm barre chord on 7th fret - E- F#m - A That Bm might be just a B.I know he calls it a B but he is a drummer and a B minor or B5 makes more sense.Who knows what Rotsey and Moginie did to the chords Rob Hirst originally wrote though.

HI DAD YOUR THE BEST :} awsome
I miss my boy
Superb! Thanks for posting.
just interesting ..im in
brilliant!.. how do you isolate the three triggers inside the bin?
Spent a bit of time on the threshold on each trigger till it responds with a direct hit and not triggering when hitting another. Doesn't always work.
Take a look at this video on TH-cam:
I was there :)
My Electric Cajon/Bin Stomp Box Thingy
Thanks for sharing that. Always nice to see Rob Hirst talk about the oils.
Ye, when i was there and saw him pull the guitar out itbwas odd
You're lucky. I only saw (all of) them once, in 93 in Belgium. They kicked off the show with Only the strong. I'll never forget that.
thanks for this - really interesting
