    Hello. We are planning our road trip from Toronto to Clearwater in May. Ive done this trip as a child (so cant remember too much driving details) but on that route my dad said we used I75. Now however he uses the route on this video. Can you recommend which route would be better in May ?

    • @thetravellingtoques
      @thetravellingtoques หลายเดือนก่อน

      We use Unipass which uses EZ pass. I think some states may be free to get one, but others you do pay for. If you plan to use it a lot for discounts then make sure you register it in the state you want the discounts for. You’ll have to check EZ pass site to check all the states from Maine, I see it doesn’t work for Connecticut, but I’m not familiar if there are toll roads there or not. Sorry, we can’t help too much along that route. Thanks for watching.

    Definitely agree with the advice to drive i75 versus the more scenic mountain route through the Virginias in the winter. We chose the latter last Dec & then coming home in Jan we hit horrendous fog at the NC/Virginia border. Zero visibility. No snow but some freezing rain. It was horrible as you know the roads are winding & you are high up in the mountains with hardly anything around you. However, during the summer - the most beautiful drive! We chose i75 for our next drive mid December and just trying to figure out how to bypass Atlanta traffic 🤣

      We like taking tolls when traffic is bad, but you can avoid them. When crossing the border you will have to pay, but it can be cash. Once you’ve crossed the border, just choose avoid tolls on your map. I think it will add about 40 mins or more to your route, depending on traffic. Be careful when you’re driving, as it can be easy to accidentally take them. Don’t stress about it though, worst case they will mail you a bill. We hope you enjoy your trip, and thanks for watching.

    Hello. Great video, it lets me clear a lots of doubts I had. I would like to make a question. How bad is drive this road in December? I guess I just have the sunpass option because my homepoint is Florida since I'm brazilian arriving through Miami airport.

    • @thetravellingtoques
      @thetravellingtoques 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. For your question on how this route is for December it will really depend on a few things. First would be how far are you going? If you are heading to Canada then the areas of concern will be the mountains in Virginia and West Virginia, these are the areas with a lot of curvy roads. We are used to driving in the snow but not the types of curves so we wouldn’t want to take this route if the weather isn’t clear. There can be fog or ice as well that may make your drive unpleasant The worst part of this drive in poor weather conditions that we hear about is that if you feel it is too much and you want to stop, you may have to wait about 40 mins until the next city. So driving this route will depend on your comfort with both of these conditions. Also our opinion would be to suggest not driving in the dark if you take this route. Whichever way you go, have fun.

    • @thetravellingtoques

      Coming from VA, you would drive through Niagara before Toronto. Niagara is immediately after crossing the border. If you do go to downtown Toronto , don’t take the 407. While staying downtown Toronto is convenient so be prepared for Hotel prices to be high. If you want to save money I would suggest staying a little further out on the subway line. Spaghetti with clam sauce, all the bread and garlic butter you can eat, with a chaser of spumoni ice cream - my very first date in 1978, in that trolley car. Thanks for the memory!

    I was on a bus trip and only spent a couple of days in Toronto. They took us to the CN tower but I'm not a fan of heights so instead I walked over to the Railway museum which I quite enjoyed. Enjoyed the viseo, thank you.

    Did this tour in 2000! I don’t remember the house looking like this.

      As far as we know they didn’t change it, but maybe they just didn’t tell us. Thanks for watching.

    We stayed here last 4 days ago and it was very convenient. We didn't realize that the tour trolley literally passes by our villa and we love it. We didn't have to drive or look for parking if we want to see different spots. The breakfast was good. The place was clean. There are so many places to eat walking distance. We love that the 600 year old oak tree is in the center of the property and we sit there to wait for our ride or just to relax. The other comment our little girl posted was after talk about ghost tours and she got scare. Sorry.

    It is amazing to me how these videos always tell the story of how well the slave owners lived! However, many historians today advocate for calling these places “labor camps” or “slave labor camps” or "forced labor camps" rather than “plantations,” in order to avoid hiding the truth of what really happened in these agricultural operations using forced labor. The story is not told about how the plantation owners became so wealthy and able to build these homes nor how the enslaved people were whipped, raped, and treated as livestock.

      We chose this location for the “From slavery to freedom” tour that was offered. Our intention on this video was to show bits of what you will see and learn at this location with a small piece of “from slavery to freedom” tour. I understand this did not go into all the details that were shared, and that is why we also posted the 2nd video with Joe’s full educational talk. I do feel that much more time should be given for this and there was so much more that could have been discussed. Thank you for your comments, as it is important for us to understand how our videos may be perceived verse our intentions.

      It is amazing to me how people ignore the fact that slaves were abducted and sold into slavery by their own people.

      From what we remember we had to pay extra for train tour/house tour and if wanted Audubon tour. I see the tickets this year include everything except for the house tour for $35. This would definitely be worth it to me. We personally wouldn’t pay the extra for the house tour. Thanks for watching.

    $557.20 isn't a bad price for a trip like that. I live in the US and I think you made the right choice by driving. A lot of Scenery can be drove through and it's a pleasant experience. I've never been to Canada but I hope you had a safe trip home.

    interesting -- QUESTION -- Sort of a personal question, but Are Canada people poorer than Mexicans or about the same? I read that Mexico now has higher wages and a much larger economy but not sure about Canada. Just wasn't sure.

    • @thetravellingtoques
      @thetravellingtoques 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, but we are not very familiar with Mexico’s economy. As for Canada, our living conditions are very similar to the United States. We have a range of incomes from those on government assistance to the very wealthy. Not sure if this helps, but for Ontario the minimum wage is $16.55 per hour while the living wage calculation for the city of Toronto says you need $25.05 per hour. Thanks for watching.

    Trying to drive from Ottawa to Naples, should I buy the toll pass? Or pay with cash or card the whole way ? Trying to crush it out in 25 hrs with barely no stops

    • @thetravellingtoques
      @thetravellingtoques 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our choice would be to get a pass. Much easier and then you are not limited to certain non tolls roads, or worrying about not taking toll roads that only accept passes or toll by plate which costs more. Enjoy your trip.
