The Fastest way to 100 Etsy Sales (And further!)
Whether you're a woodcarver, a painter, knitter, whether you crochet or make handmade cards, Artists need to be able to sell their work. At the very least so you can make enough to make more art. Handmade art is special and selling i requires a different, more human approach than the myriad of approaches used by print on demand and AI crap art tactics. In this video i discuss my path from zero to 100 sales and how I went from 100 to 150+ sales on etsy in a day using the 7 tips i outline in this video.

Woodcarving does not have to be expensive! I say that over and over, but to help illustrate the point, i figured out how soneone can get a set of 4 VERY useable woodcarving palm tools for about $35 total, and some of your own time and elbow grease. This is a VERY affordable hobby. If you find any kind of value in this video, like it and subscribe, please! That will encourage me to make more! If...

Great info and so true. U have to post and sell yourself the agrithems are not good anyomre to have to pay for advterzing etc U have to promote yourself to gert the sales
I agree wholeheartedly.
Appreciate the information Johnny! Great Video. What of tips would you give someone who has never sold a thing on etsy? You mention people would be hesitant for a shop with 0 sales ?
My first Etsy sale was a tiny little "frightened Ghoul" I posted him to social media as if he was an orphan ghoul looking for a good home. I wrote a cute little paragraph about his likes and dislikes. He sold 30 minutes later. Go the extra mile is the only advice i can offer. That first sale was a $20 carving on sale for 30% off. I didn't make much money, the goal at that point was to make a sale. Then to keep making sales. 1 sale turns into 2. Turn two into 5, then work on getting to 10.
Fantastic job I believe as a new carver I can do this thanks for sharing
@Bensmith-h8t That's awesome to hear Ben! Thanks for watching! 😀
Nice job on the grinch. I too am a carver I like finding new carving channels. Your productions are very well done. Thanks for sharing your time and talent.

@ExploringGodsCreation that's fantastic, thanks for Watching!
Lol. I was literally just talking to you about this stuff on Instagram. I didn't know you had posted this video. 😂
Haha, no worries brother! I hope the video helps! =)
Way to go Johnny !
@@kevint8532 Thanks Kevin!!
Man johnny you must be a mind reader. I've been doing research and racking my brain thinking of opening some type of on line shop if for nothing else just so my hobby could pay for it's self . still uncertain and confused but your video did help me a lot! Man it would be so awesome to be able to sit down with you and just talk and carve ( just so you know you are one of my favorites on TH-cam) . your carving friend from Kentucky
Really appreciate that Greg, thank you, and thanks for watching! Really glad the video was so timely for you.
Useful and helpful 🤝👍😊
Thanks so much. Glad to hear the video is useful!
Thank you for the shout out Johnny. Great content as always!
Thanks for the advice brother, it's much appreciated. Hopefully it goes on to help more folks as well! =)
Man that is some serious setup you got in there. Inspiring, I really have to upgrade my stuff looking at yours! Love your first knight. Seriously good stuff.
Haha, Thanks brother! I'll bet that first knight looks familiar. Definitely inspired by your stuff!! =) This desk has been absolutely fantastic as a place to carve, and a place to record. Getting the right space and having it setup just right really enables me to be more creative when i sit down at it.
Great video. I really enjoy the tutorial videos.
Thanks brother!! =) Much appreciated! =)
@ no problem.
I just came across your channel and absolutely love this. I've watched a lot of Doug Linker over the years as well. I will definitely be carving this nativity series and will be exploring your other videos. Keep up this amazing work.
Thank you so much for saying that. I like Doug Linker a lot too, i learned SOO much from Doug. Thanks for Watching!

@brianschleinkofer6251 i love this style of santa so much, glad you like it too Brian! Thanks for watching brother!
Great video Johnny. I didn't know you just did a grinch video or I would have chosen a different topic for my latest video. Oh well, there's probably room for a couple grinch videos this week. Keep up the good work sir!
Haha, Great minds think alike! Periodically we're going to overlap and there's nothing wrong with that! =) Appreciate you brother!
Ok, I thought I was trippin' for a second there. I had to go back and confirm that your hand tat was relatively new and that I hadn't just been missing it all this time. 😅 Another great carving video! Thanks for the information!
😆 🤣 yeah, mee tattoo. I do that from time to time! 😀
Nice editing
Thanks so much! I'm still new to it, so I appreciate the compliment! Thanks for watching.
As always another great video. Like the Grinch with the candy cane Santa needs a cookie in his mouth lol. Anyway have a great one. Your carving friend from Kentucky
Thanks Greg! Glad to hear from you and thanks for watching! =)
Looks like a really fun little carve. Could quite quickly decorate your Christmas tree with handmade whittles. Would love tbat.

Always a pleasure, thanks for watching! =)
Totally nice
Thanks brother!
What wood are you using?
@reginaoatley2767 I'm using basswood! You can get it on Amazon, or if your in the US, Loesshillssawmill.com
My gouges feel dull but I admit I am not used to using them. They are new, from harbor freight. They were given to me. I tried them but it feels like it doesn't cut like my blade. 🤷. They feel "cheap". Hard to work with...any advice?
@reginaoatley2767 harbor freight isn't a great source for carving tools. I would think they likely need to be sharpened prior to use, a lot of carving tools come unsharpened.
@@JohnnyTheLayton ok ..this is what I thought. I will watch your video on making those tools for $5. I appreciate your tutorials. Easy to listen too. Calming.
@reginaoatley2767 I'm appreciate you saying that! Thanks!
I love these ornaments...❤❤❤ So you can do more next week..😊
@@reginaoatley2767 I'm going to be making a lot of them! 😀
@@JohnnyTheLayton good because I did the Grinch one..I made 5 and sold them all at the flea market here. It helped me get partial elec money. I am partially paralyzed and I can carve in bed... ❤️

I really enjoy your channel. I started my woodcarving journey about 4 months ago and it was the best decision. What an incredibly fun and relaxing hobby! Thanks for being a spark of inspiration like so many other incredible woodcarvers who share their work with the carving community. Thanks, Johnny!
@thebiglake8625 glad to do it, and thanks for commenting and saying so, I really appreciate it. thanks for watching!
You have skills, partner.
@JudoKid759 thanks brother!! 😀😀
I needed this! I just started and I love it but I suck. I watch videos and can’t figure out how carvers are pushing their lives easily deep into the wood and cutting so easily and smooth. After five minutes of carving my hands are exhausted and shaking and forearms on fire. I don’t get it. I’m using basswood as well. I’m getting frustrated and really needed this. Thank you.
@jefferyhall8811 I'm glad, because brother I was there. It's amazing how much of the hand strength comes with time. I work with my hands and have for years, but carving is using them in ways I hadn't before. Not only that, but the way I hold the blade has evolved, and changes as I feel the wood. I cut way deeper now and way smoother with ease than I was able to do in the beginning, but those movements of the blade are learned muscle memory that come from carving. LOTs of carving.
@ thank you! I’m taking your advice. I’m sticking to it. It’s very relaxing making piles of wood shavings. lol
@@jefferyhall8811 I wholeheartedly agree! =)
Got my 3 grinches today, LOVE THEM!!! Had to come and see how they were made. Thank you so much!!!
That's awesome!! Hope you enjoy them! 😀😀
I'm thinking Danish oil as a excellence first primer coat Something I experienced in wood working projects. Have you tried Danish oil instead of your water scrub technique..... maybe you are very happy with the water scrub using your paints , might test both
I've used danish oil, tung oil, teak oil, and mineral oil. I like water. 😀
