The Critical Materials Innovation (CMI) Hub accelerates the development of critical material technologies and enhance the innovation pipeline for U.S. supply chains by accelerating research, educating a diverse workforce, and creating de-risked, commercial-ready technologies in partnership with American industry

Ames National Laboratory leads the CMI Team, which includes dozens of partners from national laboratories, universities and industry. CMI research works in four ways: Enhancing and Diversifying Supply, Developing Substitutes, Building a Circular Economy, and Crosscutting Research.

CMI results include creating unique facilities and new intellectual property, including research publications and open source software. CMI invention disclosures have led to more than 50 patents issued. CMI technologies are in use in industry, including by technology licenses.
