It was fun to see a different type of Bible -- I don't think I've seen one which specifically encourages one to write out the scriptures as one reads along before. Sheep fidget toy was especially cute and if that crayon of many colors works, it's a great idea, being able to choose a different color easily.
Thanks for your review! I think this is a nice Bible for the price, especially considering the closer-to-"normal" paper, but not for me. 😊
aren't woman pastors wrong??
Im anglican but this seems essential for study of church history thanks
I have that bible I love it so much
Do u still have this
@@Vlognviews yes I do.
got you hooked on the manicures I see :P
The original Jerusalem Bible was very heavily annotated; in fact, that was one of the best things about it. The translation reflects the spirit of its time: very free, conversational, at times poetic. But anyone looking for a literal translation would do well to look elsewhere.
thank you for sharing
What an interesting version of the Bible! I'm glad to have come across your review as it looks like a fun read (and honestly, while I love reading the Bible, sometimes it feels like a slog).
thanks hope it helped
Catholicism is the only truth. Confess, repent, and follow the Lord's direction.
Are you that pastor? Pastor Purple? Love the review! I think you're the only one who's done this in depth review.. thank you! God bless!
Yes I am. thanks for asking. God bless
I see. Which church do you pastor? If you don't mind. :)
I'm pastoring in the Netherlands so not English speaking churches.
Interesting Bible. Thank you for the overview.
Orthodox Christian here. While of course I don't speak for the Church, I for one adore the KJV translation. One of the reasons I don't read the Orthodox study bible is because the Old Testament does not follow the KJV.
Thank you for sharing
Fellow clergyperson here - so glad I found your channel! Love this review and how comprehensive it is. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you! So glad you are here
I saw a copy of this one in York Minster shop this week. I'd never come across it before and only had time to quickly look at the layout and the printing. I don't find it appeals to me visually, but that's just personal preference. It seems to be well made and very clear to read. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It convinced me that I don't need to add that one as I think there are just too many peculiarities that would just irritate me too much eventually - as you pointed out clearly. I can see it has a place for some, but I think I trust translations done by committees as more trustworthy - especially if it's an ecumenical panel because it prevents bias creeping in. Again, I know many prefer a Bible to have a bias, but that's their choice. Thank you.
Agreed some people love the bias. I think its good to know its there so that you can weigh it up on its merits.
This was my favourite translation as a youth for obvious reasons. I especially enjoyed the line drawing illustrations. Good to see how Harper Collins have continued to keep the printings of it at high quality and good value. However, as an adult, I've definitely moved on from it, but I have fond memories of it and would always recommend it to the younger reader, 2nd language readers and those new to the Bible.
Thanks for this. I agree with a lot of your opinions on this Bible. I had that exact one for over 20 years, but I eventually passed it on as I was so rarely reading it. I mainly had it because it made some different translation choices. Some were good and interesting, but a few were very odd. I did though download the Revised New Jerusalem Bible on my ereader. Again, it's not the best translation for me personally, but the introductions and footnotes are interesting for when I want to look up meanings and context. I'm glad I didn't buy the physical book in this instance, because the new one also has paper that's too thin and is a bit of a brick. A Bible really needs to be comfortable to hold, carry and read and the publishers just haven't got their act together on this series of translations. I like to dip into several preferred versions, but I also have a main reading Bible for private moments.
Thanks for the feedback that's very helpful for future videos.
@@Pastorpurple I look forward to them.
@@Pastorpurple also to add that after a bit of trial and error I've decided that I mostly prefer Bibles and prayer books to be physical books. I do have a RNJB and a KJV on my e-reader for different reasons (KJV is dead cheap to download. RNJB is easier to read because I can adjust font size, typeface etc and have a single column which I also prefer like you). Navigation on e-readers let's them down. Some are better than others :KJV is quite good; RNJB is very frustrating.
I just don't like some of the additions from the text that seens redundant. it's yet one of the best paraphases because it tries to add to the text and get the meaning of the authors, not just simplifies it
Agreed. In some places its definitely doing too much.
If you go for a third CSB, do yourself a favor and spend $26 on The Holy Land Illustrated Bible. (Hardcover -It's a beast!) It is gorgeous! Stunningly gorgeous! The paper!!! The paper feels like a velvety puppy-belly. I can't put it down.(It is also informational and readable)
Thanks for the tip
While having a conversation with a work friend I found out he attended an Orthodox Church ( I attend a nondenominational church) he gifted me this exact Bible and I cherish it to this day ( 9 years ago) Wonderful study Bible .
Thats so wonderful
Giggles seem out of place.
To really understand you need to go to the liturgy. That is the real expression of the Church. For most of history literacy was so low, that what you have there would be of no use. Liturgy is an expression of actual worship will be shocking to you.
Thank you for the tip

This was so good! Wish I could have watched it live. Thank you for shedding light on these issues.
Thank you for watching. We appreciate your continued support.
Great information today!
Thanks. I really tried to make it informational and understandable.
Thanks for this video. Decided to get this for my son who was recently baptized. ❤🙏🏾 will get one for my other boys as well.

Thankyou so much for this review. I really appreciated it!
Thank you.

Excellent review. I've been tempted by the CEB Study Bible and you've helped answer a few questions I had about it. Thank you so much for the comprehensive review!
You're welcome
@@Pastorpurple *you’re*
Thanks for doing the review by the way. Just started reading CEB and really like it. I do get a bit frustrated with bibles that don’t use God’s name and just use ‘LORD’ or ‘Lord’ everywhere. I also dislike the use of the word ‘hell’ . God bless.
Thank you for showing a good starting point when English isn't your first language!
You are welcome. Have a great day
Hi Tabitha, why are you only interviewing black women?
While there would be nothing wrong with that choice and I certainly was intentional about asking black women. I think you missed at least three interviews
Please note the contributions by ps. Kirsten Öster-Lundqist, ps. Anne-Mae Müller, ps. Nandi Flemming and our colleague Madelon Comvalius.
Sadly, TH-cam is unable to have videos that are longer than 12 hours.... whereby our interview with Darnisha Thomas was cut short. We apologize for those of you that are now unable to hear the conversation Pastor Purple and I had afterwards and the comments that we received, but you can be sure that we will continue Taking Notes soon. Thanks for watching. Subscribe and leave your comment below.
Thank you for this explanation as it is very helpful and it is so needed . It gave me such a better understanding. Look forward to more videos!!
Thank you for the sermon!
Get well soon!
Thank you
Almost a year later now, how are you doing now? Hope you are doing well!
Thank you for asking. My motivation is back My health isn't sadly. So I am in the opposite situation ironically.
Thanks for reviewing the CEB. It doesn't get much attention. I love this translation and it has become one of my go-to Bibles next to my NRSV (30+ year user during and after seminary!) and the CSB.
You might want to give the CSB Single Column Wide Margin a look. It is the 2020 updated text. I bought it in Bonded Leather. There is also a Verse by Verse (double column) Bible. I prefer the SCWM myself.
Lovely to see the enthusiastic "nerd" in your eyes! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing! Hope to meet you in person in 2022!
Yes I'm inspired, to redefine my journaling.. not for sermon but just for me. Thanks
i love this unboxing keep it up!
was fun and interesting to watch my compliments
