I am using jam jars. Not bothering to bury them. But I am putting three sticks around them and making roofs with small pieces of slate, obviously leaving loads of room for entry. I have one next to potatoes and three surrounding Jerusalem Artichokes. They have proven to be very effective. Much prefer to slug pellets. Food plans and poison doesn't seem to be a sensible .combination. Oh, and as I am having to water them, always water in the morning, not evening.

Hi there! Long time sourdough maker, short time dealing with slug-ger 😂 Quick tip, when you’re filling the trays of the slug traps, keep a portion of your original sourdough starter. A strong and active starter will grow and get bubbly with yeast after just a few hours so technically your traps will be ready by the next day. I haven’t tried this method yet, I just saw you were dumping out all your “starter” when we usually keep a portion to mix in with the next batch of flour and water to make more starter. I’m excited to try this, I’ve never had slugs before, here in California, but I bought a passionflower plant online and it keeps getting eaten at night so I’m going to give this a shot. Thank you!

wow this is a bit different than the way we used to make it, but I like it...going to try it. My grandmother made it as did my mother I think it was from my hungarian great grandmother. This dessert has a sentimental value to my heart too.

Congrats on your new urban homestead looking forward to seeing it develop over time. I felt every shovel full of dirt you moved having had to move more than my fair share of soil from my front yard to the back. But it does feel satisfying when you are done. And chickens are the best! Once they get going you can pretty much put them on autopilot. The tree growing is not a hazelnut. I It’s a rose of Sharon. It is in a hibiscus family. It is actually a bush that can be fashioned to grow as a tree. Your garden is amazing and your children are beautiful they are so happy. Good job

OMG, toddlers in the garden "LIFE GOALS..." My little man is 14 months today!! We/I harvested a few strawberries for a morning snack yesterday. I sat them to the side as I checked on the ptatoes and he kept picking them up and smelling them. Lol 🥰🥰

The leaves that have the little holes in them are more than likely from a caterpillar. Slugs won't eat just tiny holes, they'll do much more damage. Looks like you have both.
