    Worst weather scare, I was camped at Lost Cabin Lake and summited Noble Peak. Storm rolled in on the summit and the lightning was all around me and level with me. Static so bad my hair was standing up. Ran down the mtn double speed, broke camp, and the lightning chased me the whole way down. What a trip!

    I got hit directly in the face with bear spray. It hurt, but it removed a great deal of my confidence in it. Even worse, it still had the zip tie and safty plastic over the trigger.

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting, I can certainly understand how an accidental discharge or an auto deploy like that would challenge confidence. I personally had not heard of that happening except in extreme high temps but I am sure it probably has happened. What brand was it?

    • @stonefallknives5518
      @stonefallknives5518 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Everydaybackpacker I realize I wrote that poorly. It wasn't discharge risk i was referencing primarily, even though that is one part of where my confidence was removed. When I sand, "it hurt, but it removed a great deal of my confidence." I mean primarily more that I no longer feel as confident it would save me from an aggressive attack from a bear and secondarily the fact it can discharge with all safety measures in place present a liability. The short version of the story is, I was assisting a disabled person at a mountain resort. The can they had blasted me directly in the face, I lifted them and carried them around 60 to 70 yards away from where it happened and once we were clear another person helped me flush my eyes for about 20 minutes. It hurt but, but not bad enough to stop me from assisting a disable person. I am not as tough as a bear. The brand was "frontier." I half joked to my family that evening, " If I can carry a person off into the woods after getting hit with bear spray, what's a bear gonna still be able to do?" Half joked, half serious. Would I want to get hit again? No.

    Link?? Also- if the lock on your beer spray doesn’t have a tether- get one. I lost my lock at the beginning of a multi day trek busting thru brush… stressful few days afraid I was going to hit the lever while hiking 😅

      @Everydaybackpacker หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just added the link to the description! Sorry about that. And yes that is definitely a good point about the tether. I do usually have them but that was an older can and I think I took it off for another can haha.

  • @davidcooper8390
    @davidcooper8390 หลายเดือนก่อน

    But how do you know if it really works great if you have not had to deploy it to stop a bear charge?

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker หลายเดือนก่อน

      Decent question, how effective the spray is would be determined by the spray itself not the holster. UDAP spray has been tested effectively in many real world scenarios. I have all the confidence in the spray. The holster test of pulling the spray out and putting it to a position that I can effectively deploy the spray shows me that I can quickly deploy it if needed.
