Blue Lennon
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 พ.ค. 2020
We (Ashley & Ryan) left the lives we built in the United States behind on August 8th, 2024 to explore this planet we call home. After 40 years of doing all the things that we were told we had to do in order to lead responsible productive lives we decided that we needed more. Our son (Oliver) has just graduated high school & our daughter (Saylor) has just completed elementary school so it seemed like the prefect time to put it all on the line. We didn't want to wait until we were too old & we wanted to enjoy this experience with our children before they went off to make their own mark in the world. While Ashley & I are two separate people in this world this channel is a representation of us together as one single person. Oliver's middle name is Lennon and Saylor's middle name is Blue so it seemed appropriate that if we were to merge into a single person our new identity would become Blue Lennon. Please take a chance and subscribe to our channel, come along and dream big with us!
Was our Australian Roadtrip supposed to end like this? Week 2 including Melbourne / Great Ocean Road
This is a story of two tales. The Ying and the Yang. We spent 4 or 5 days in Melbourne and we truly did enjoy our time there. A lot of that had to do with just having a place to call home for a few days but none the less we loved the city. We all love the art, all forms of it from music to painting, to book, to social medial. We love it all and Melbourne was exuding creativity everywhere you looked. We hit up all the museums from NGV National Gallery of Victoria to the Melbourne Museum, which we didn't include any footage of in this video but it was fantastic as well. For me though, the hit of Melbourne was the ACMI Museum which was all about the art of storytelling. We spent hours in there and I feel like I could go back and do it all over again. After getting our lives together in Melbourne we decided to hit the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road was a fantastic experience and I think it is a memory that we will all hold onto for the rest of our days to come. The theme of this video is in the idea that sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make and and omelet, and sometimes we have to be those eggs.

Is Australia trying to Humble us? A Travel Vlog / Roadtrip from Adelaide to Sydney to Melbourne
มุมมอง 14Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Australia was one of those places in the world that felt so far and foreign to us and as a result, probably one of the places we were most excited to visit. Unfortunately we started off on the wrong foot mostly due to our lack of preparation. We were having so much fun in Japan that we kinda forgot to think about Australia. When we landed in Adelaide, Australia we were just completely exhausted...

This is a short video for sure. We are trying to tighten up our editing but we are still trying to working on the filming side of this whole TH-cam thing. Needless to say we didn't end up with a lot of footage during this week. We didn't want to skip the week with no acknowledgment but let just say that we are now ready to start working on next weeks video and see if we can put a better foot fo...

This is a documentation of our first few days in Osaka. We honestly didn't do as much as we had hoped to in Osaka, Japan. All of our travel thus far seem to be catching up with us. We definitely needed some downtime so we took all we could get without getting greedy. I do wish we would have maximized our time a little bit more efficiently because Osaka is a fun city. First impressions had us wi...

We only had about 48 Hours left in Tokyo Japan so we were quickly running out of time and it seemed that this city had an unlimited amount of things to do. I am sure we missed so many can't miss things but in the end we did the best we could with the time we had. We visited Team Labs Planets and I was super impressed. What a cool place that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. We checked o...

We spent an entire day and a half in the Harajuku district of Tokyo Japan and we had a blast. Sure, it is a super touristy location but we find that if you accept that fact and embrace it there is a ton of fun to be had. We spent a lot of time just walking around the area which didn't make it into this video as it was probably pretty boring to sit and watch but we decided to make a montage of a...

This was heaps better... Sorry your frustration in the last video was so evident. Travelling at night etc etc...this pace was better. As i mentioned last time.. when you go back home check out, one pack wanderers and write down some of those amazing places they saw and definetly come back and really enjoy some more natural wonders. Your storytelling was amazing this video. Stay safe...
Wow..... You really didnt plan... Or at least, ask the locals. No one would have said drive at night. Regional/outback motel managers arent sitting around waiting for tourists to just rock up. And you missed so much along the way in your haste to get to sydney from adelaide. Australia and its beauty takes months to see properly... But as you said you live and learn. Someone else mentioned One Pack Wanderers. They absolutely did it right and very respectful of our country. On a final note. Your b& b wasnt that bad. Hmmm you may not survive this trip unless youre prepared to go 5 star if a couple of aussie bugs freak u out. Youre kind of doing Aus wrong if you think you can see it all in 3 weeks... But I suppose thats youre perogative....but you end up missing the point.. Slow down and smell the clean air. And most importantly, TRAVEL SAFE and ask the locals...
here are 10 small tips to any US citizen that wants to visit Australia. 1. leave your attitude along with your guns at the departure lounge. 2. don't panic! it will be there waiting for you when you get back, we don't want it. 3. you cannot buy a gun here as easily as you can in the US, nor carry a gun over here, this is not the wild west as it is in the USA. 4. enjoy the sites the food and the different cultures. 5. Australia has a culture, they have song, dance and food and we are proud of it. 6. The US has, Levi's jeans, McDonalds, mass shootings, guns and bombs and you are proud of it? 7. take lots of photos, buy the occasional souvenir. 8. when you get back to the US "the home of the brave and the free," pick up your gun and your attitude, you will notice it is still there intact as you left it. 9. Show your friends the photos and tell them you had a nice time. 10. Oh and don't forget to tell your friends you experienced real freedom for the first time in your life not having to carry a GUN!
lol, got it
All I hear is a whole bunch of wringing. How can you expect to get a real feel of our country by spending so much time in the car. Even i would hate that.
Why would you go to Hay and not canberra? You can drive to both in about 4 hours from melbourne. Start early and youve got an afternoon in Canberra’s national museums and galleries (plus parliament house). There’s nothing in Hay (unless you really like cows and fields). But better yet, the Indian Pacific train runs from the indian ocean to the pacific. It does all these stops - perth, adelaide, melbourne, Sydney. All safely and you can hop off for a few daysin the major stops if you want. If you want to visit Canberra you can get off at Hays. You can put a car on the Indian Pacific if you can afford it. Do NOT cross the Nullarbor by car. Its not for everyone and id be concerned for you guys if you tried it. Im a sandgroper- a west australian - and i grew up with huge distances and harsh climates. We get a lot of tourists who get out of their depth here and some pay the ultimate price for their mistakes. I wouldnt want you guys getting in over your heads here. Ps bear in mind these small inland country towns dont get a lot of visitors amd theyre not set up for them, even the regional cities are not particularly tourist-friendly. Most places like that the options are pretty crappy. Try to stick to the tourist places and the larger cities. You wont miss anything if you do. This is a big country and theres a lot of ‘nothing interesting to see’ in it.
I am glad you had a good time in our country I enjoyed your videos take care all the best
Thank you so much for the kind comment and watching our video. Glad to hear you enjoyed <3
.........don't kick yourselves, you went the distance guys,...........if you do it again you will understand the logistics of road tripping down here a bit better and hopefully enjoy your experience without the pain of learning it all......
we are big believers you learn best when mistakes are made. Our next trip there will be even better. <3
Your complete lack of planning has nothing to do with Australia.
We know that because we didn't plan better our trip wasn't as amazing as it could have been. With that being said we still managed to enjoy ourselves and our second week was EPIC.
Unless you love sitting in a car, driving Adelaide to Sydney to Melbourne and back to Adelaide in a week is not a great way to experience Australia.
we know now :)
Trip of a lifetime
it really was.
Cool
heya! so happy your stay in Collingwood was memorable! I'm from Melbourne, living in California and planning a trip home in 2025. Do you remember the name of the AirB&B you stayed in? That would be perfect for our homecoming trip!
Search for " Find Luxury in an Old-Charm converted warehouse" on airbnb it really was an INCREDIBLE house. The video doesn't do it justice. Hope you and your family enjoy your trip home. <3
The Great Ocean Road is the biggest War Memorial in the World. Built by returned WWI servicemen. That air was fresh off the ocean from Antarctica.
Left Melbourne after dawn one road trip, turned off the main highway (Hume Highway to Sydney) to go to Queensland via the Newell Highway and passed a farmer trying to herd dairy cows off the side of the road … apparently a University lecturer had come through there hours earlier in the dark and the cows had broken down a fence, wandered onto the high way and the driver had been killed when he hit a cow … driving at night is very risky.
We know that now :)
Y’all seem like nice folks. But seriously, travelling in Australia, plan to be in a town by 4pm, check into a motel, have a walk around, dinner at the pub, then get going the next morning. You will have a much better experience. Lucky you didn’t go to New Zealand. Everything there closes at 3 pm …
Cooler? You mean an esky …
you could of used the net to book ahead , and welcome to Australia
yes we could have and should have :)
Australia is vast, and it’s easy to underestimate the distances between towns, places of interest. There’s lots to see but also lots of monotony. Research the trips, sites, maps, open hours of camp sites and weather. Have fun.
Thank you for the kind words and for the tips. We most certainly underestimated Australia. We'll be back. <3
It's called an Esky mate not a cooler. Also driving at night in those parts could be risky with. 'roos on the road etc.
Pronounced Melburn
Everyone “says Melbourne” because Victorians are incredibly insecure & have a thing about putting “the big kahuna” down, much like how people put down the biggest, most important cities in the US
Well I'm glad you've learned your lesson, and to better prepare your trip to Australia next time. Glad you enjoyed Melbourne and Victoria (from a Melbournian).
Thank you. Us too. <3
Hello family, good on you for having a go! Yes unplanned, but you had such an experience, pluses and minus'. I love your living and learning attitude and good humour, enjoy the rest of your trip! Especially the Great Ocean Road. Drive carefully there, it is so beautiful but many tight bends around the coastline so attention is needed to the road and what other drivers are doing. There are many places to stop and get out to enjoy the view. As a Melbournite I hope you have a great time here, Botanical Gardens is a good place to start and nice for a picnic with your cooler (weather permitting). All the very best, you seem such lovely people I hope it all goes well for you. 😎😘
Thank you so much for your kind words. Our motto is you got one life to live. Live it to the fullest. Mistakes happen you just gotta keep living. Even with our mishaps, we still had a great first week, but our second week was epic.. we will be back one day to explore more of Oz. ❤️
Who ever planned your trip needs to give it to someone else
We said the same thing 😂
😍😍😍
Your basically Aussies now , I hitchhiked that same run when I was 16 took 3 days though.cheers
You guys are crazy!!?? I agree with all the advice given by others! For heaven’s sake,do your research before you come here?
You live and learn :)
If you landed in Brisbane then drive to melbourne woulda been a wholle lot better for scenery and motels that are open...its all 4 lane freeway and populated. Come back ya gotta see Cairns and the Whitsunday islands. White sand beaches and lots of 🌞 sunshine
We plan to go back and do a redemption trip ❤
All good. Hope your short trip was enjoyable. It suprises me you still say 'Mel born', surely you've heard everyone else saying 'Mel bun'? That's how an Aussie says Melbun. 🙃🇦🇺
Those videos were shot a few weeks ago. We didn't realize we were saying it wrong till after they had been shot. In our 2nd Austrailain video when we did the voice overs we did correct it :)
Australia is as big as the USA with a much smaller population. It take 5 hours to fly a commercial plane from Perth on the West coast of Australia to Sydney on the East coast. It takes 5 hrs to fly from Los Angeles to New York.
We most certainly underestimated it for sure.
Adelaide Sydney across Hay plains have ten hours good music on the car stereo, set the cruise. Always carry emergency water supply and stick with your vehicle the event of breakdown. In summer it gets very hot out there and without water can be life threatening. For motels if you are getting in late always ring ahead, most will give you a room number and leave keys under the doormat.
We for sure learned the hard way.
You seem nice but not very smart. Fortunately you weren't in the outback. Australia could have been your coffin and you'd get no sympathy for endangering the child😮
You'll have to come back as you have missed a lot of what's here to experience and show you. 😎 Just a shame it's a short trip and I hope to see more videos that'll be longer. Yeah editing on the go is hard but you put in the hard work the rewards are definitely worth it just like Australia mate.
We will for sure be back. Thanks <3
Don't worry, you're not the first group to make the mistake of underestimating road travel in Australia. You simply can't see the country in the time you have allowed yourselves. You need to take into account jet lag as driving tired on those endless roads can be genuinely dangerous. The best advice I can give any travellers to Australia is to never try and do it all at once. It's as crazy as trying to see the US in a week. The best strategy is to go to one area and stay there for a few weeks, get to know it and come back another time and do another area. It's way more enjoyable.
We are taking it a lot slower these day.s. <3
Glad you slowed down to enjoy Australia, some of your rough start I think was from rushing.
For sure that’s why we had a tough 1st week. Glad we found our groove. That second week was INCREDIBLE!!! ❤
You have a great story telling voice, l really like the Southern American twang in your voice, keep telling your story.
Thank you so much. You really don't know how much I appreciate that. I question my story telling all the time.
As a warning as a truck driver in Australia driving on country roads at dusk and dawn in a car is the most dangerous thing you can do. And when driving on country roads don't drive to close to trucks because if they hit a kangaroo it will go under the truck and be spat out from under the trailer and throw your frount window and either hit the driver or or passenger it happens to tourists alot
That's terrifying We for sure learned from our mistake. <3
Thanks for that. Capital cities are pretty similar around the world. I'd always take a road trip in whatever Country I visit. The countryside is what let's you know you're in a foreign country. I'd far rather take Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles than any Freeway. 🇦🇺👍
Really glad that you guys had a better second week there are plenty of great places to see in Australia you just have to know where they are and the best way to get between them. This country like the US is vast especially when your time is compressed so flying is probably your best option then hiring a car and exploring each area once you get there. I know that vacation time in the US is shorter and Australia is a long way to come so I guess you can only do what time allows. I hope that you can come back one day a week in south east Queensland and a week in Cairns would be a nice experience just dont do it in the middle of out summer, spring and autumn are ideal times to be up there.
Thanks so much so are we :) We plan to go back and take our time and really get to see and explore and most importantly ENJOY.
EVERY American video I watch is full of complaining and pettiness. These guys at least had some positives to say, but they would have enjoyed it much more if they'd planned better and not tried to cover so much ground so quickly. We live and learn however, so I hope they'll get an opportunity to visit again and chill more. It's a laid back country friends. Slow down and enjoy. Peace..
Thank you so much for the kind words and positivity. We are gonna do a redemption trip and take it was SLOWER and really get to take it in. Australia is an INCREDIBLE place. <3
It’s always been called the National Gallery of Victoria because before federation Vic was setting up to be an independent state.
What beautiful views! And those koalas are so freakin adorable!! And so are you ladies holding them!
It really was incredible views. Awe thank you! saylor and I really wanted to keep her. she was sooo sweet.
1 day in Sydney??? You saw nothing. And you might want to talk to some locals and learn how to pronounce the names of the towns that you visit before you film.
Hay to Wagga is 270 ks, close to a 3 hour drive. You should have stopped at the last town, Balranald, which is 90 minutes earlier.
G.O.R., the worlds largest war memorial, built by returned servicemen.
In general most Australian don't like driving at night especially with families. Wild life are most active at night.. But it's part of adventure you learn from experience. Enjoy Australia don't forget to put sunscreen all the time..
Thank you! We carry sunscreen always and apply OFTEN. <3
I dont want to be rude , but you have to be crazy to attempt this trip without realising that this is not the US. With 340million people over the same area as Australia 26 million, stands to reason that there are going to be fewer convenient stops etc . Please do some checking for the future.
we will definitely do our research next time <3
Hey we saw Oliver yesterday we miss you guys and love you
He told me <3 He leaves tomorrow morning to head our way. Congrats on your 1st place and Grand Champs <3 miss and love you too!
Beautiful video. Last weeks mishaps are a true representation of what real life is about and we can never be truly prepared for everything. So don't let negative comments affect your experience. Thank you for sharing your families adventures.
yep we want to be real and honest and life isn't always rainbows and butterflies. Thanks for following along. <3
OMG! The trip you had from Adelaide to Sydney was like the first time I tried to take my husband from Warnambool to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road (GOR). It was Easter Sunday 30 years ago and we had just returned from two weeks holiday on Kangaroo Island. My hubby refused to let me book accommodation for the night and no one mentioned there is always a HUGE surfing carnival there at Easter. We planned to sight see, then stay in a motel, see some more before visiting my aunt over an hour's drive from Melbourne at the base of the Dandenong Ranges. We ended up arriving at my aunt's home at 4am. 31 years later, in April 2025 (BEFORE Easter surfing carnival and school holidays!) I have planned and BOOKED for two nights glamping (a Xmas pressie from our daughter) at a winery at the start of the GOR, then three nights at my sister-in-law's holiday home at Apollo Bay and then two nights at Port Campbell before going home via Hall's Gap and the Grampians National Park. Next time I plan to take it slowly!
A surfing carnival sounds very interesting. Even with all this issues I'm sure you were able to find some amazing moments during that trip. What an INCREDIBLE Christmas gift to your daughter. Are you joining her on the trip? For me I like to be on the go and get in as much as I can in the short time I'm there. Since we are traveling for at least a year I'm trying to learn to enjoy slower travel. Thanks for joining us <3
