Could Jesus be the Messiah ben Joseph?
มุมมอง 5K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In Judaism, there is an expectation for a Messiah ben David, and a Messiah ben Joseph. 1. We'll unpack what the Messiah ben Joseph is, and what the Hebrew Bible and rabbinic literature have to say about him. 2. We'll think through the claim that Jesus is the Messiah ben Joseph.
Is the Jesus in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament)?

What does the Torah, or Hebrew Bible as a whole, say about Jesus? In this video, Aaron takes a holistic approach to unpack the Hebrew Bible, to see if the authors of the Jewish scriptures had someone like Jesus in mind.
“Jesus can't be the Messiah, because he didn't build the third Temple”

1. How could Jesus be the Messiah, if he didn't build the third Temple? 2. What about the passages that say the Messiah would come before the second temple was destroyed? References - Haggai 2:9 - Exodus 40:34-38 - 2 Chronicles 7:1 - Malachi 3:1 Rashi on Malachi 3:1: "The Lord whom you seek, the God of Justice." - Daniel 9:26

I am Jewish (via my mom’s side), had Bnai mitzvah, went to Shule as a kid, etc.. But I’ve referred to myself more of a ‘Jewish Christian’ more than a Messianic Jew cause I belong to a church instead of messianic synagogue and I’m not so observant of the holidays like some Messianic Jews are. But I nonetheless feel blessed to have Jewish ancestry 🙏🏽 My name’s Aaron too btw

They should call themselves Christians. What do they believe that Evangelical Christians don't? In what way are they different? The only major difference is that Evangelical Christians were not commanded "Thou shalt have no other gods before me". Jews are.

And Jesus didn’t replace the Hebrew Bible, he affirmed and taught from it, and Christianity cherishes the 10 words (or 10 commandments) where he says “thou shalt not have no other god’s before me”

@TheTorahGuide you are a Jew. Your ancestors nearly 3337 years ago stood at the foot of Mt. Sinai and experienced the only mass revelation in history. You ancestors until not so long ago resisted their very lives because they were witnesses, by order of the tradition passed down to them, father to son, to that event. I do not know your personal history but you were most definitely NOT witness to the stories told in the NT. You accepted them in spite of your being a precious link in the Sinai tradition. If you believe that Jesus is G-d then you are most definitely transgressing the "god you did not know" commandment. Let me make you an offer. If you like I will post my email. I am an Orthodox non-yeshiva trained Jew. I will be glad to show you why the broken cistern you have chosen over the flowing stream is not for any Jewish person. Interested?

well......... there's a little more to it than that the first messianic congregation i attended was quite particular - they wanted very much to retain their jewish identity, they have a strong heart for YHVH, and they want passionately to appeal to the non-believing (PRE-believing) jewish people in their community additionally (and this was made clear to me early on by the rabbi) the term "christ" is greek there is a history there paul saw it - and warned of it at first believers were entirely benei yishrael (jewish), but then gentiles were welcomed in - technically gentiles were "in" but the center of power was... jewish then that changed and throughout history (sadly) there has been oppression by the gentiles against jewish people (believers or not) and that oppression was often under the flag (or in the name of) "jesus christ" so.. some modern jewish believers hear "christ" or "jesus christ" and it cuts a little different to them than with us they want to avoid the "greek" side and cling to the "jewish" side it is not "jesus christ" for them - it is "yeshua hamashiach" and i understand in my day-to-day life, i don't use the term "jews" i say "jewish people" because of connotations i love jewish people - as does YHVH (the father, the son, and the holy spirit) and God wants the two to be one - paul says as much --- yeshua broke down the barrier of separation between circumcision and uncircumcision, making the two one - but get this... He wants the jewish person to be FULLY jewish - and the gentile to be FULLY gentile everything that God calls a jew to be - be that ---- and same for gentile i am gentile - i love my bacon ham and sausage : ) and jewish believers eat kosher and we both attend the same service - worshipping the same God : )) amen and amen

I'm curious how many of those Jewish believers are fully literate in hebrew, had a formal Jewish education and knew their religion before being asked to abandon it for a theology that venerated a man as God. I'll ask you a sincere question as I have the channel owner. Isaiah 7:16 references the very same boy of 7:14. Isaiah 7;16 says that before the boy knows to reject bad and choose good, the two dreaded kingdoms will be abandoned. Which two kingdoms referenced in isaiah 7;16 were abandoned during the lifetime of jesus?

Why didn't isaiah who wrote his scroll in hebrew use the exclusive hebrew word for virgin in 7:14? Isaiah did however use the hebrew word for virgin in 62:5 "As a man marrieth a virgin" Kind of an extremely careless mistake if his intent was to convey the woman was a virgin.

Also, in reference to my previous comments and concern in regards to our body (flesh) being the temple of the Holy Spirit who IS God... We know that God is a Spirit. It says so in His Word. It also says that "NO good thing dwells in the flesh." His Word also declares that "the flesh is corrupt","...so then, this corrupt must put on incorruptible, and this mortal (clay, dust, or flesh) must put on immortality." --- Also in God's Word. So then, why would a Divine, incorruptible, being even consider living in our corrupted body??? Sin is corrupt. God's Word explcity states that BEFORE man was created, it was ALREADY in the world!! It is the spirit of evil. God's Word also says that sin entered the world through one man, Adam; which means, the first. Jesus is called the 2nd Adam, "...for through Him, all will be called." God's Word also says, "In sin, did my mother conceive me." That was King David saying that. It does not mean that it was a sinful act that conceived him, but that sin was already present in the world when his mother conceived him. It still is to this very day!! In other words, we were ALL born into sin. We were sinful clay, or dust, flesh, carnal--- unregenerated spirits born into sin, but yet, innocent in God's eyes until the "day of reckoning" when we finally recognized who Jesus is and what He has done for us. That is why it is called the "rebirth", or "Born Again" in God's Word. This is SPIRITUAL BIRTH. Once you are born again, Jesus lives in your heart (spirit). How is the body (flesh, dust, or clay), then His temple??? Even Christians can sin!!! This defiles the BODY!!! This is MY personal belief... When we came to Jesus and got saved, it wasn't our flesh that was changed; nor, our mind, but it was our spirit that was changed. Our body and mind are still trying to catch up. Sorry--- I didn't mean to give y'all a sermon. Just an observation that has bugged me for a LONG time as a Christian--- over 50 years now!! Could it be true? I honestly don't know, but I ain't been able to shake the idea that it isn't for all of these years. Worth further investgation--- definitely!!!

  • @davidanon6004
    @davidanon6004 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

IF our human body (clay) is the temple of God, then why does it say in God's Word that He does not dwell in houses made of clay? Doesn't it make more sense that God would dwell rather, in our spirit since it is our spirit that God breathed into us??? Does it not say in Genesis that God breathed life into His Creation (the clay, or dust)? Does it not also refer to us as clay when He says that He is the Potter, and we are the CLAY??? THESE REFERENCES ARE IN HIS WORD!!! Check it out for yourselves. Jesus also spoke in parables (code) to the crowds because He knew that there would be spies among them looking for any excuse to silence Him. Afterwards, He would reveal the meaning of the parables to His closest followers, the Disciples, because He knew that they; who He trusted, would not betray Him.

  • @davidanon6004

Dude, you are looking at this through NATURAL understanding. God IS the temple!! Jesus said to the religious leaders of His time, "Tear down this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." He wasn't referring to the NATURAL temple of Jerusalem. He was referring to HIMSELF AS THE TEMPLE! ...and on the 3rd day, He rose from the dead!!!

There are plenty of 'anointed' ones (messiah) in Hebrew Scripture .. One of the most prominent 'God's Messiah' is King Cyrus (Isaiah 45). The only person in all of scripture where HaShem himself called him "My Messiah". Christians like to exaggerate the messiah ben Joseph figure because it reminds them of their Jesus figure. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter much. No one is going around bowing down to King Cyrus just because he is the most prominent Messiah in all of scripture. Note: Your clearly getting your information from the book by David Mitchell called "Messiah ben Joseph" . I've read it and studied it , and it was one of the main books that helped me leave 40 years of Christianity and Convert to Judaism.

Have you considered John the Baptist as the Moshiach ben Josef? Because he fits the prophecy of Daniel. You might explore the Mandaean Book of John.

He has not built it yet though... They didn't leave him a chance to do that by plotting to kill him. He is prophesied to rebuild it after his second coming.

I recently did a Hebrew language video on this very subject. The Messiah son of Joseph is not Biblical and I find it interesting that you rely on Rabbinical teaching when it suits you and reject it when it doesn't. The starting point for all of this should be a) was Jesus' father from one of the Joseph tribes, ie. Ephraim or Menasha? The answer is clearly no and no such claim is made in the NT. The entire emphasis in the NT is that Jesus was from David throughSolomon, which is also not the case if you believe the NT. So before going off on an eisegetical tangent Jesus didn't have the pedigree to be either messiah. Of course there is more but is it really necessary?

In the Old Testament there are descriptions of prophecies about the advent of three four kinds of Messiahs who have to appear for guidance according to the promise of God Almighty. We should not confuse them with one another as their advent times are different and their Missions are different. One Massiah who had to appear 2000 years ago for the people of Israel only that was the Son of Mary. A second one Massiah with a universal message for the people of all religions and nations after Jesus. According to the prophecies of the Bible this Messiah had to appear in the area of Paran. The third one Messiah that had to appear about 200 years ago in the middle of the eighteenth century. The fourth one, Massiah, has to appear quite End Time (about one thousand years after our time as we are passing through the 7th Millennium that is the last one and about two hundred years have passed). It is a mistake to apply all prophecies and descriptions of the Old Testament to one Messiah of Israel.
