    Thank you so much! I've been following you for quite a few months now and I'm doing exercises recommended by you every day (vocal warm-up, stretching, massages, voice training...), but unfortunately I don't hear any change in my voice and this frustrates me, especially in public since very often I am quiet around people because I am ahamed, or it happens that people misgender me, even though I have a very feminine appearance (or at least people I know say that I have a "Barbie appeal", I don't heve that much self-esteem hahaha), but apparently just my voice is enough to recieve male pronouns, which clearly makes me suffer a lot. However, it must be said that there are a couple of people close to me, like my mother, that there is a slight difference in it, that before I had a heavier voice, and I have tried to pay more more attention to it. Anyway, I'm writing this long comment to tell you that I needed this video, you gave me more reasons to believe in myself and to be more confident in what I'm doing. So thanks again💜💜

    I've been meaning to do this for months and simply haven't been able to so this video is going to be helpful in finally getting me there, thank you. As for my voice I think my resonance is what bugs me the most, I don't mind the idea of having a deeper pitch. But I would like to be able to hear my own voice without feeling that awful knot in my chest.

    Still can't figure out this false fold thing after 2 or so years of training and I think it's the final step holding me back. No matter what I do I get vocal pain even tho my trained voice doesn't feel strained whatsoever. Plus it sounds a bit off to me. I watched your straw warm up video and been doing that and it's helped reduce pain, but still there in a significant enough way to stop me from going full time with my voice. So far none of the exercise have worked for me to figure this out and I haven't felt any opening feeling in my throat. The plugging ears thing doesn't work for me probably because of my tinnitus and my hearing loss in general.

    • @oliviaflanigan5938
      @oliviaflanigan5938 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hmm, vocal pain is never a good thing! I would recommend going to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor), a laryngologist, who can take a look at your vocal cords and make sure that they're functioning okay.

    • @Freak80MC
      @Freak80MC 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@oliviaflanigan5938 Thanks, yea that's what I should do. It would be easier to diagnose anything looking in my actual throat than just trying to figure it out through sound quality alone. It's just weird, my male voice never has any pain issues, its just voice training, trying to move the throat muscles, that starts to mess things up. I don't know if I may have damaged something early on and maybe am doing everything right now but that damage persists (I have been doing voice training all on my own) I do suffer with acid reflux but I'm on medication for it, but maybe something about moving the throat muscles to train somehow causes it to come on? I don't know, definitely stuff I should bring up to an actual doctor.

    My challenge has been making my feminine voice my natural voice. While I do not go back to where I was, my voice still fluctuates from where I want it. I would love to someday not think about it anymore. I am getting there with using my feminine voice always. If you are MtoF, the goal is to just open your mouth and sound like a woman. It can happen if you keep trying. I have come a long way with Olivia's help. If you practice, it does not have to take that long.

    Hey, I’m Georg and 3 years ago I injured my voice while singing. For about 2 years I haven’t been able to talk without pain and swelling feeling at all so I’ve not talked at all. I’ve consulted with my doctors and they’ve told me to exercise speaking regularly even if there’s pain but I want to spread my story to get second opinions. I used to sing a lot for several years before my injury. Some days even about 3 hours a day. Went to singing school sometimes, learn a bit of the (CVT vocal technique) One evening, I started to sing and my voice was not that great that day and I also drank a milk product before what causes my throat to produce a lot of mucus and thick feeling. I tried to sing one high note, but I couldn't reach it, so I squeezed my neck and vocal chords to get that high note and that’s how I injured my voice. From that day on my vocal injury has gone worse to the point that for 2 years now, I haven’t been speaking at all. Just a couple of words in one year.

    • @gs07007
      @gs07007 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The reason for it is now when I speak, my vocal chords and thyroid area get “swollen” and painful(nerve pinching pain). I put swollen in brackets, because I’ve been to a laryngoscope and the camera didn’t detect any swelling in my vocal chords when they looked at it. And also they didn’t find anything other than couple of granulomas(not on the vocal chords) which could have been caused by some food intolerance. The vocal chords were just weak and atrophied.

    • @gs07007
      @gs07007 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Going back to 2021 when I firstly injured my voice. The symptoms then were similar, there was the swelling feeling, and nerve pain. (it’s really weird to me that there was no swelling detected on camera, because when I get the swelling feeling, my whole throat feels so swollen. I even got a thyroid ultrasound, but nothing was detected there) So back then, basically I still could use my voice after the injury. So I had to not speak for a couple of weeks and then the swelling feeling went away. And I could practice again and talk. But as time went on. The swelling came back and back. I gave it more and more rest, to make the swelling go away.(one doctor back then even said that don’t stop speaking, but for me it didn’t make sense cause my throat felt so swollen and nerve pinching pain was quite bad). So I gave it more and more rest and as the time went on, about a year from the injury, I could only speak about 20 minutes a day.

    • @gs07007
      @gs07007 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And it was difficult to avoid the swelling feeling and pain away, so I gave it more and more rest, until it became so bad that last year I couldn’t even laugh and this swelling feeling came back. It has since got minimally better now, but still I can only laugh about 5 times a day or less. My question is, if I start to practice again and ignore the swelling feeling in my throat and the nerve pain, would it injure me even more. That’s what I’m worried about. If someone told me that “100%, you will not injure your voice more when practicing through the pain”, then I would start. The last doctor said exactly that, but I needed to get a second opinion somewhere else, because I’m scared to injure my vocal chords even worse, to the point that I could lose my vocal chords forever. Thank you for reading it the whole way through and I would love to hear your opinion! Thank you in advance! :)

    • @oliviaflanigan5938
      @oliviaflanigan5938 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey Georg, I'm so sorry that you've gone through all of this. It sounds painful and frustrating. I can't speak to your specific injury, and it sounds like it's a bit of a mysterious case. I do know that continuing to use your voice through some types of vocal injury *can* be helpful, for instance the use of SOVT exercises (e.g. humming into a straw in water, lip trills). I don't think you should just power through and continue to sing or speak for long periods of time if you're experiencing pain, though. I'm not familiar with the nerve pain that you're describing. I would encourage you to seek out a speech pathologist who can assess your case, and figure out what types of exercises and amount of rest would be best for you. Keep reaching out to medical professionals! Sometimes it just takes the right one to help you assess and address the issue. Wishing you nothing but the best in your recovery!!

    I've been doing this for the past 3 days and an issue I have is that it seems like high pitches go nasal for me. I don't know if that's normal or not? Like I can't seem to start at a high pitch while being non-nasal, I have to go from a non-nasal low pitch and pitch it up from there. Then when I hold out the high pitch, it isn't nasal. But as soon as I stop and try to start again at that high pitch, nasality is reintroduced back in. I'm trying to experiment with starting high pitches without it being nasal but I can't seem to get it so far

    • @oliviaflanigan5938
      @oliviaflanigan5938 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! I'd have to hear you to be sure, but it sounds like you might be constricting your throat and getting what sounds like a nasal sound. Try these couple things: When you go up to the high note, or are starting at the high note, start standing and bend your knees when you get to the high note. You might also try shaking your head like you're saying "no", back and forth as you go up to that high pitch. These exercises can help to "distract" your muscles around your larynx so that you can access those pitches easily. Hoping these help!!

And my voice use to be pretty high of course haha before puberty hit me and I’m still able to reach most notes I aim for but my question is if I took hormones would it allow my voice to be higher again just even a tiny bit so I can be able to hit a note I need effortlessly ? If so what’s the name of the best one you recommend me purchasing ?

      Hi! I'm sorry, that's so frustrating! I'd suggest really slowing things down and exaggerating the movement in pitch. You could listen to a recording of a voice you like at like 75% speed and speak along with them.

    I’ve been working on impersonating Elvis’ unchained melody and I noticed how weird my throat and jaw look when I do it. It looks like I have a kangaroo pouch under my mandible…. I look like a frog with a massive vocal sac . I have been trying to figure out a way to avoid this atrocity while still achieving my Elvis voice but to no avail. I have a very young sounding voice and I get a kick out of opposing it. I’ll just wear a turtleneck….. but I think maybe the vocal sac is pretty cool……

      Sounds like you're pressing your tongue down a lot to make a lot of room in your mouth for that deep sound. You do want to create more space, but you might have some tongue tension going on. Try saying "luggah luggah luggah" to loosen your tongue, and do some tongue stretches (just stick your tongue out as far as it will go).

    Prosody has been one of the most difficult areas for me! There are these patterns I've observed where intonation changes, or there's a natural upward glide which sounds like the phrase is sort of a question, like: You know?? Then there's the "listing things" pattern. Example: So I got to the festival, had to look for parking, there are these guys drinking beer . . .

I really don’t understand. Did I miss the part where you affirmed someone gender? Is it necessary? Like holy Christ. I can’t tell if you’re serious or if you just put it in the description so you can niche the alphabet peoples community.

    Thank you, great video, and you have a wonderful singing voice. I initially found singing to be a great help in voice feminization, but as I began to experience vocal strain, I realized my singing was a contributor. I'd never had any formal singing instruction and I think I was forcing high notes by using a lot of air and tensing to constrict the vocal tract. Anyway, I'm wondering, would warming up the full vocal range be a help to spoken voice feminization?

    • @oliviaflanigan5938
      @oliviaflanigan5938 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thank you so much! Got it, it makes a lot of sense that you might have been feeling strain due to pushing your top range too much. Yes, warming up the full vocal range can definitely be helpful in vocal feminization! Try using SOVT exercises to warm up and get to your high range. Examples are a lip trill or humming into a straw in a glass of water. Those can help to eliminate that strain at the top!

      I use a voice app recommended by Olivia where I can hear particular notes and see their Hz. I then target my singing and talking to that note to help me feminize my pitch. Olivia has another video where she discusses voice apps you can use.

    • @ChandraHatesGenocide
      @ChandraHatesGenocide 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@marti7343 I use Voice Tools bc it's free, but I'd definitely consider trying some other options. Sometimes I also use an internet keyboard. I don't target a certain pitch so much as a range (190-300 Hz) to make sure my voice has good movement. I've also tried to work with different emotions since when I'm sad or angry my voice tends to be lower and more constricted in range.

      Congrats on coming out! It takes time. Try to check in with your body as you're speaking. Do you feel tension in your neck, shoulders, jaw? Move around a little bit and take a relaxed breath and try again. Also, some of these techniques might sound "unnatural" to you for a while until you're able to get comfortable with them! Keep at it!! You've got this!

  • @ChandraGrace-sx6zb

    I think your tips, and the way you present them, is intuitive and easy to follow. They also track with what I learned from my own vocal coach. Voice was the one element of transition that seemed to come easily for me, but I had to seek help due to vocal strain, and I definitely encourage others to get professional guidance if possible to learn to do things in a healthy way. Other strategies that have been helpful for me are "ee"-ing my vowels, giving my voice a bit of a musical quality to ensure I'm getting good movement, and making sure I'm getting good breath support and keeping my neck, shoulders, and vocal tract relaxed.

    This is the first video I've seen of yours, and while it's really great and I understand what you are doing.... Everyone within a mile of me was just informed that it is Monday (it is, and late at night) by a voice that sounded more or less like a cross between Kermit the Frog, and a fog horn. I've watched a lot of stuff on this subject (yours made sense instantly, most do not) and what I'm starting to think is that either I'm kinda hopeless, or I need to go to actual classes. I've tried recording myself but instead of helping it's making me dislike my voice even more. I think in some cases that maybe having someone who knows this stuff present who can say "yes that was good (or not)" or "no no no, a little less Kermit and absolutely no foghorn" could help a lot. I'm not giving up, and will watch your other videos, thank you for making them!
