Road Debris Obliterates Windshield (first-hand account)

    This is what I've decided to do for this problem. I've only had my sunroof open 4 -6 times in 10 years. Don't need it. If I could seal around the top surface of the glass, that would allow no water in, I'd be very happy. I believe the upper side of the glass sunroof, seals up to a rubber O Ring, that surrounds the glass, and likely what happens over time, is that rubber O Ring dries up, allowing water in. I think FLEX SEAL or a hi quality silicone would work, to seal the top of the sunroof glass, to allow no water to get in, to begin with. You won't be able to use your sunroof, so it's open to the air, but you can still use it as a window inside. It's a lot better, than having water continually dripping in, and ruining your overhead headliner in the inside of your car, which is very costly to fix. I'm going to seal mine. If you don't do this, the water will attack the adhesive of your inside headliner and it will start to sag, and eventually fall down.

    My 2013 Tacoma was broadsided the other day by a bigger truck and it sent me flipping over a bank beside railroad tracks. My only way out was through my passenger window. If it was not for my Stinger escape tool, it would have been a while before I got out! It vis extremely scary to feel trapped, and now knowing my tool will be worthless in my next vehicle, is terrifying.

  • @kimclayton5814

    Laminated glass should not be on a CARDOOR window as a standard option. In case of a fire or water rescue or escape.. the people inside the car are trapped alive until they drown or burn to death. This should be optional upgrades for those who want it on ALL windows after being informed of the risks. Obviously, the windshield should be laminated. Things need to be changed as people are dieing in their cars because they can't get out!!

    I bought the Gutewerk squeegee last week and I’m returning it for the reason you mentioned in the video (doesn’t glide smoothly). The other issue I had is the hand swoops downward which makes it very difficult to do the bottom 3-4 inches of the glass because the handle hits the bench or floor first. I don’t understand the reason for this design.

    The touch test is BS. All it determines is how the mirror was made. Slap a pane of glass over the top of a two way mirror and it's still a two way mirror, but your touch test won't detect it. Turn off the lights and shine a light close to the mirror. If the light goes through the mirror, bam, you got yourself a two way mirror. If all i does is reflect, it's a regular mirror.

    what you mean by disconnected?

    • @glassdotcom
      @glassdotcom 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drain hoses are held in place by a connector. If the drain hose comes loose from the connector, it will disconnect and the water won't route out of the vehicle as intended.

    On tinted windows is ok?

    • @glassdotcom
      @glassdotcom 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aftermarket tint is almost always applied to the interior side of a window. Factory tint is typically built into the glass. So you shouldn't damage tint by using a scraper on the exterior of the glass.

    • @glassdotcom
      @glassdotcom 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you'll just want to make sure it's an amonia-free formula. Foaming glass cleaner helps the cleaner stay in place when sprayed onto the glass. Normal glass cleaner is more likely to run.
