Pro-Flex CSST and Product Overview
มุมมอง 149K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is a quick look at how to assemble the Pro-Flex CSST system and a quick look into the rest of the product line. To certify, please click the following link: installers.proflexcsst.com/index.php/public_installers/agreement
what is the actual OD size of the 1 1/2"?
i just got a new tank installed i had the pro flex on there he argued with me about the 1/4 to half turn and he cranked the fitting down
I learned gastite and got certified 25 years ago and this stuff is way better. No chance of a burr making a leak at the connection and ruining the fitting. A burr in stainless from the flare will dig right in to the brass fitting. Never using gastite again.
Price of gas compressions fittings
Can you reduce the size of the pipe of origin or must you run the same diameter throughout? I haven’t found a reduction solution which is very odd to me.
I do not recommend this product. If you are not a licensed Master Gas fitter you should NOT be doing gas work. Everything he says about metal to metal fittings is a crock of malarkey. They are by far a far superior product to proflex. I cant count the number of times I have found this crap with leaks all over it. Do not do gas work yourself!!! You are going to blow something up or burn it down and God forbid maime or kill somebody. Use and expert who is licensed and insured to install gas lines and I wouldnt give two cents for proflex gas line. Ask them to provide or show you their license too. I cant count the number of times of found leaks or incorrect fittings not apporved for pressurized gas that were installed by plumbers or homeowners that had no business doing gas work. Never let a plumber or electrician do gas work unless they are certified and licensed and insured!!! And I am a licensed Master Gas Fitter with 23 years of experience. Ive seen damn near eveything but still find ridiculous and dangerous stuff that people had no business doing all the time.
I beg to differ. Pro-Flex CSST is not crap. I read the instructions carefully, got the card (I know, it's not hard to get that card), but my pipe and fittings all passed the town inspector's pressure test with flying colors (no drop in pressure at all). But I do agree that you had better know what you're doing with this stuff! Gas is dangerous. BTW when doing the work, which also included running 50 feet of 1" black pipe, I found a tiny gas leak on the utility side of the meter that had probably been there for years. The gas company tech thanked me for finding it and fixed it in a jif. And I had full permits for both the electrical and gas work that I did (installing a standby generator). It's now over 2 years later and no leaks of any kind. Also, to repeat what I've said before, Flak-Jacket insulation is pretty tough stuff. Obviously not as tough as black pipe, but neither are the flexible dryer and range hoses, which aren't as tough as Flak-Jacket. Just sayin'.
@PJBeee and your credentials are what exactly?? That you installed it one time?
@@marcusaurelius9631 No. I've installed it two times. And I would have the same comments if I'd installed it 100 times.
Better product and better pricing than GasTite. I will never use that GasTite crap again
My kits come with 4 pieces, not 3. There's an additional washer the jagged end makes contact with.
Just checked with the Pro-Flex people. The fourth piece is a "high-temperature gasket." It was pre-installed in my fittings when I received them new. In the replacement ring/gasket kit, there is a new gasket included. Maybe newer fittings come with it separately.
Thanks
your URL you left in the video description does not work
I am in Kenya and I want to learn more abt this and I have a shop I am gas vendor so I want to advance in the business
What was wrong with the old stab type fittings that have been used for decades? We tried some Homeflex once and said never again, this stuff looks no different.
I don't want to give you a thumbs up I don't want to give you a thumbs down I don't hate you I don't like you what I hate about it is that I can't get it because I cannot find you anywhere I cannot find the stuff to buy it I would like to be able to buy it too but why how come because you think South doors can't do it themselves wow how idiotic you're just like the collie pictures off because you don't want nobody else to see it
Thanks Buck
You talk to much we just wanna see how to do it, no history lessons or abc school scenarios. Less talking more walking
If for some reason you needed to put 2 runs of CSST in the same trench, is there a required or suggested separation distance?
Fantastic demonstration model. Can you use this product for propane lights indoors or would it be best to use Copper?
Well I am going to hook up LP at cabin and I couldn't think of anything better to install.
Fantastic 🤩
The stuff that Lowe's carry says 5 psi max? Is this true? How can u test it with 15 psi if this true?
That's just what it's been certified for. He cranked it up for this demo to show how good the fittings are with hand tighten only.
So I’m running this thru the attic, and down an outside wall, connecting to galvanized pipe. Do I need the stub out to go thru the wall to stove?
Galvanized pipe should not be used for fuel gas systems.
@@TH-camUserNumber1 Down in Florida black pipe will rust quickly. Galvanized is code here. Go figure.
@nickdeliso7026 interesting, I thought code prohibited galvanized everywhere in the US since it can flake. We just paint the black pipe on the west coast and it holds up. Cheers
@@TH-camUserNumber1 That was my plan, but I called the county and was told that was how it had to be. Had to return all the black pipe and buy galvanized. The rain and constant humidity down here is brutal. Thanks!
I like that system. Hooking up the tubing to the Pro-Flex termination flange, I had some trouble getting the male threads started into the female nut (the flange). I had to use some copper tubing with a 90 degree bend in it to push hard against the o-ring to get the threads started. The copper tubing helped straighten the CSSI tube while I got the threads started.
Hi can we use grey quick connect natural gas barbecue hose to natural gas cooktop?
For Flak Jacket do you need to bond it to the panel? I really like that you have to worry less about electric issues with this black version.
Where do you purchase the o-ring loader?
@@moevice8933 completely unnecessary. Use gloves if you think you'll get cut.
I would stick to using wrought iron or gas tite. That o ring on pro flex seems like a weak point that could leak.
I bought the kit.......why doesn't the slide ring fit over the supplied hose?
Can the fittings be taken apart and reused again after an install without the need to buy new guts inside the fitting ? basically are the fitting reusable as they come?
I guess nobody cared to answer. That speaks volumes to me!
I can't find the product anywhere; particularly the 1" dia size. Anyone know where there is a source in Olympia Wa?
Thermal, Geary Pacific, Airefco
It's not a bad product but it is a one time use so please stop using this as unions, sincerely plumbers everywhere 👍🏻
I've zero issues disconnecting and reconnecting when working on the unit? Deff not a 1 time use. Lighter leak tested and all.
I don't get your point. Unions are probably more likely to leak than Flak-Jacket, when properly installed. The point of CSST, of course, is that it's flexible. It certainly ain't cheap.
I need help. Will be running Proflex thru attic, and come out the eaves. What do I need and how do I connect to black pipe so I can come down to wall to propane tank? Thanks in advance. NAD
There are several ways to transition to black pipe. Given your scenario I might suggest using a stub out to transition past the eaves and tie into black pipe at that point. Feel free to give us a call should you have any questions during the process.
@@pro-flex7142 Thank you. Can you let me know exactly what parts I need to order? Much appreciated.
@@dastick66 Might be easiest to give us a call.
@@pro-flex7142 what number do I call and who do I speak with? Thank you!
How come my Pro-Flex tubing is yellow and this stuff is black?
Could be Flak Jacket? Arc-resistant alternative to standard Pro-Flex.
@@elliotlindsley2570 Yes, I think you're right, thanks!

If another trade bumping it is going to make it leak then it ain't very good to start with
"Bumping it" is not going to make it leak. Nor is "bumping" the corrugated hose between your stove or dryer and the gas supply. But you should not be surprised that it's not as tough as black pipe.
What do I use to cut the flex pipe?
Pro-Flex offers a stainless steel tubing cutter, however, any tubing cutter you have would work just fine.
thank you
Getting some tomorrow. Never using homeflex again.
I love this stuff. So easy to work with.
Stuff works great. My experience with the 1" (Flak-Jacket), however is that the split ring (first washer in) does not go easily into the collet. You just might need to force the collet over it with a screwdriver, and it's OK to do this without the 2nd washer or O-ring being installed. You can then test that the collet screws at least loosely onto the fitting, and then unscrew from the fitting and install the solid washer and O-ring. And of course, the split washer has nothing to do with the gas seal itself - the O-ring mate-to-fitting does that - so go ahead and force the split ring in. I've not had any leaks of any kind. But the 1" Flak-jacket stuff is pretty stiff, so be prepared to spend some time putting the fittings on, which includes the time to remove some of the jacket, as the instructions say. Otherwise, real happy with the stuff. The Flak-Jacket is reassuringly tough, so it should work well for many years. For my uses, it eliminated the need for some elbows, which reduce the effective pipe length, for specific nipple lengths, and for unions, which can leak.

I purchased 1/2 flak jacket from Menards but none of the 1/2" fittings slide on the way you showed it. The tubing is too thick. Should I remove 10 valleys instead of 4 so it'll fit on?
It's been 9 months since your post... what did you end up doing? I am having the same issue.
@@anthonystella1819 I called the hotline number and apparently they changed their design (even though they say they have never changed the design) but inventory doesn't turn over quickly and many stores still have the old stock. Yes, you just cut away the extra valleys and it does the trick.
No hablo mucho inglés pero te entendí! 👍
Es facil.
Will I still have to use dope or does this eliminates that step?
No dope or tape of any kind is needed, nor should it EVER be used on the CSST itself. Only on the NPT fittings should you use dope, tape, or whatever you usually use. For me, Pro-Dope works like a charm all by itself. (I don't get anything from anyone for mentioning it by name, and I have used it for years on gas pipe).
Coooolllll! Thank you!
Hi, how to buy this tube from any site
It is hard to find, and even harder to find by the foot. But do some searches.
Where can in get that strut pump that connects to my test gage??
Reach out to your regional and they can get you taken care of.
Your maxitrol 325-5 regulator with vent limiter must be mounted horizontal. You're gas Riser is considered a component and should be connected with a insulating type of Union since anodeless risers enter the ground. Also Regulators must be accessible ( not allowed inside walls) and a regulator is considered a component,so yes a union will need to be installed. Hope some of this information helps and you all please stay safe out there.
I thought I watched a video about making pro flex connections when, in reality, it was about all of the things you mentioned instead.
Only the vent limiter has to be mounted horizontal reg. can be vertical
@@joshbeck7814 , I made that mistake as well and was proven wrong (causing me to go back and make corrections) . Limiters must be installed directly into the regulator, no piping or fittings, such as elbows can be used (no elbows allowed).
Is this the same as homeflex?
It is a different brand than homeflex. Note that the fittings are NOT compatible between brands.
Is this what trac pipe used to be?
No sir, Pro-Flex is a completely different line of CSST from the Tracpipe line.
Can Pro Flex be used in RV's?
VIKA2010
Pro-Flex CSST is not approved for use in RV's or other mobile applications. The listing for CSST states: This standard applies to fuel gas piping systems using corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST), intended for installation in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings...
