Running My SD45X's and SP Freight Train On Steve Nelson's Missouri-Kansas-Texas-Lines
มุมมอง 79228 วันที่ผ่านมา
For my birthday, Steve Nelson was kind enough to let me run my Southern Pacific Freight Train on his Missouri-Kansas-Texas-Lines layout. The train consisted of 2 ScaleTrains Southern Pacific SD45X's, 20 freight cars and 1 Southern Pacific Bay Window Caboose. I enjoyed my time. . . it was very relaxing and therapeutic to see my rolling stock trek through beautiful scenery. Steve's track is impec...

It hit me yesterday. . . the next time I'm at train show, I'm buying a bunch of the old Tyco/AHM stuff and use for weathering practice.
Practice Ballasting Walther's Code 83 Flextrack
มุมมอง 1622 หลายเดือนก่อน
I spent time practicing ballasting my Walther's code 83 flex track. I first laid the cork road bed. Then I spiked down the flex track and then I painted the track with a black brown paint using my airbrush. For the ballast, I used Scenic Express #40 mixed ballast. I used 91% IPA to wet the ballast and 3:1 water to Modge Podge glue to secure the ballast. What I found is work on 8 in to 1 foot se...
Weathering my Fox Valley Models 60 ft flat car.

I weathered my Fox Valley Models 60 ft flat car. The challenge was making the bed, or the top of the flat car, look like wood because it's plastic. It was a fun project.
Dan Would You Consider Weathering These Boxcars?
มุมมอง 1152 หลายเดือนก่อน
Dan, would you consider weathering these box cars? Or, do you have some videos already demonstrating these types of boxcars? One with a white roof. One with a silver roof and one with a blue-painted roof. The amount of weathering I like is to look like the cars are about a year old from the Gunderson, Thrall, etc. factory. They've been through extreme heat, extreme cold ice, snow, hail, blazing...
Bob Grech's Wester Pacific - Part 3. . . Running an 86' Greenville High Cube Boxcar
มุมมอง 4032 หลายเดือนก่อน
I visited Bob Grech today to run some of my rolling stock on his layout. For fun, I brought along my Tangent Scale Models Southern Pacific Greenville 86' High Cube Boxcar. . . I kept referring to it as a Thrall boxcar....hmm. Bob's layout is set in the early 1930s and is dominated by steam and 40' rolling stock. My huge high cube boxcar defienetely overwhelmed the layout and there were a couple...

I totally agree with you!!!!
Great space and great layout. You are correct about the need for more time to catch more scenes and details. As you were moving about I was saying to myself, "stop right there". The photos you showed at the end really show his wonderful lighting. Thanks for sharing.
Great layout and huge engines
I don’t believe sp had “ horns” but I’m pretty sure they had a whistle just like yours has I know our Farmrail caboose has a whistle on it
They look great , the train needs a couple of wheels of time lumber cars and it would be spot on.
Your train in his tracks,,highlight?
It is my train running on Steve Nelson's layout.
@westernstatesrailroading oh ok thanks for info
I thought you meant Steve Nelson "Mr. Muffin" in Atlanta Indiana. lol
Very nice layout.
You made me laugh. The reason being that once you said that you have had them for over 25 years, I’m not the only one that does it. Ya can’t rush stuff.😀 I’ve been 12 months into retirement and finding stuff I bought eons ago. It’s like ooooh, forgot I had that. All the best from Sydney Australia.👍👍
I just ordered one of these are the cars, plastic or metal?
Mine is plastic with metal weights.
Thanks for the tip, I will definitely have to try it out
The craftsmanship and evidence of thousands of hours of scenery work, not to mention the smooth rolling stock (with weathering) and beautiful rail and tie work blow me away. I dreamed of doing this for 50 years and then sold my layout for parts because I never got past laying track and the wiring. But it gives me a deep appreciation for those who are true artists.

Nice 👍
Terrific layout. Thanks for posting.
The detail is incredible! Very cool!
👍👍
Sleep on it. It'll come to you.
Yes. Please make a video of the process if possible. Beautiful flat car. FYI . I made a scratching / gouging tool using a piece of 1/8" stainless steel cable. Piece of wood dowel with 1/8" hole for the 1 1/4" L stainless cable. Works great for scratching plastic.
Thanks
Way back in the 1860s, Lincoln set the track gauge to a standard of 4' 8 1/2". Your 'Cotton Belt' car was built to one of the odd ball Wide-Gauge standards of that time. 8' 3" of I'm correct. Interchange is hard, but boy do you get a big load to carry.
Or maybe wrong track😂
I know what the problem is. Aint got no gas in it.
My father hated weathering....at one time I modeled CCP so everything was dirty...now I model America Latina Logistica which is the same ....the SP of Brasil...even with their SD40T-2s
I cut😊
Great weather tips…
Works for me 👍🏽
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
Thank you. I've been practicing on toy freight cars before the detailed ones. Tamiya Panel accents are great. I'd like to pass this on to you if interested. If you do graffiti on freight cars. Check out Gelly Roll .05-1 mm tip gel pens for graffiti. These pens are great . Just starting my graffiti journey too.
Thank you!
That's a great looking and operating locomotive.
The one thing that bothers me about ST, is for "museum quality' it should have KDs installed at the factory. I dont know how much this loco goes for, but I d be betting it be up there. I have had issues with all ST models for not putting trip pins on their couplers. If they are on them, & those that dont want them , can very easily, remove the trip pins. I dont have a problem with their couplers, as such, but to have to change them out as soon as I get a model, erks me somewhat. I bought 3 operator covered hoppers a while back, & when I saw the couplers, oh bugger, I just have to put in a "ol #5 KD & we be algood to go. FAARRRK me.NOT happening. I tried that & because the #5s dont drop in, I tried to make them fit. After filing/ sawing the coupler draft gearboxes & taking out most of those beautiful stirrups in the process, I did get them in there. That was before I mail ST & told them what I thought of their couplers, I did get a reply, which said their coupler pockets are designed for the KD whisker setup. FFAARRRk me. Why couldnt they just mention that in their instructions. One good thing....only glad those covered hoppers werent "rivet counter" models. ST, get ya act together on otherwise, great models.
Nice pictorial
Thanks!
Exellent idea. Questions: what percent IPA did you use? And do you dull coat over, at the end? Thanks for the tip!
I used 70%. If you use dull coat again, it will remove all the hazing. Basically, it will look like it did before the IPA was applied.
@@westernstatesrailroading Thanks for clarifying. Great video.
70% or higher?
That was 70%.=I tried 91% on a section of another car but it appeared to wash away some of the dull coat away. I'll need to experiment.
That was pretty cool 👍
Thanks.
I cut all of my trip pins and replace them with Mag- Lok air lines.
Cool, I'm very interested in those. Do you have any videos showing your results? Thanks!
I like the name of this rule.😊
👍😁OperateOnOperator
Always room in the collection for another ScaleTrains loco
If you get time. Please show how you weather the roofs of boxcars like the heavily weathered SP high cube. That is stunningly beautiful grime, rust and aged. Should be getting my Tamiya panel washes tomorrow. Will be experimenting with weathering then. Thank you for sharing your modeling.
Thank you!
Awesome! I just got myself a CP AC4400 some Bachmann hoppers one with an EOTD, a trailer train flatcar and a woodchip gon
Some weathering is always better than NO weathering. The human eye will fill in the details which is especially true the smaller the scales. Good video illuminating a complex topic.
Thanks!
Very nice
Is that a sd40p or sd45p or a tunnel motor? I’m not quite sure
SD45T-2
@@westernstatesrailroading thanks!
