Rans S-21 Outbound Fuselage Cage Prep Tips
Here are a few tips that we use at the Rans factory to make Cage preparation a bit easier on the S-21. Do these before mating the tail cone to the cage. PLEASE NOTE: We use custom stand-offs on the six tabs that contact the ground to avoid powder coat damage. Do not stand your cage on the bare tabs, use a piece of carpet, rubber mat or other material to isolate.

Tailcone bottom longeron doubler install
Hey Eddie, it’s Justin Just wondering how long it takes to build a set of S 20 wings
It takes us about 5-7 days, and about the same for the covering portion, estimate a first time builder to take 10-14 days
@@edmundgil Thanks, Eddie.
I have my adjusters at the midpoint for my 915 installation. It sounds like I am pretty safe to fit these fairings now, but it also appears that if fit reasonably close to the tail one skin, it will be very hard to lower the nose of the HS later should flight testing so indicate. It looks like moving upward won’t be restricted. I guess it is a risk worth taking to get the benefit of fitting now rather than after rudder and paint.
Another question - it looks like you also have the firewall assembled and attached to the cage - I guess this is something else that's suggested before meeting the cage to the tailcone?
Please view my other video regarding Boot cowl fit up, it explains why it's helpful to fit this up at this stage. It all comes back off for painting though.
@@edmundgil I don't see a Boot Cowl Fit Up video posted either under your name or under Rans Design account - any chance you have a link to your boot cowl video?
Steve, I'm sorry, it's the video titled Fuselage Cage Prep Tips
Just to confirm, you go ahead with the entire boot cowl at this stage, not just the bottom skin shown in the video, is that correct? And thanks for all these videos, please keep them coming!
The text manual says to set the incidence adjuster bushings 1/8" from the bottom of the slots for the Titan. In this video Eddie states that the bushings should be “all the way down” for the Titan. Which is correct?
All the way down on the adjuster screws yields 1/8" gap at the bottom at the bushing location, sorry for the confusion, I'm trying to post a photo but not sure how to in the comments
@@edmundgil That makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying that.
Great tip videos. Keep ‘em coming. Is the cage tip a new method, or have you always done it like this?
This is relatively new, maybe the last 4 or 5 Ready-to-fly Aircraft we've made
PLEASE NOTE: We use custom stand-offs on the six tabs that contact the ground to avoid powder coat damage. Do not stand your cage on the bare tabs, use a piece of carpet, rubber mat or other material to isolate.
Thank you eddie for the tips that you do for everyone. It definitely is a helper when it comes to building for the un experienced people out there. Also save us some time in the long run.
Hey I really like these new factory tips for the build. Keep up the good work here Rans, this material is much appreciated.
It would be nice to have the manual sequence follow this sequence.
Thanks for posting. Keep them coming!
Timely information. Thanks Eddie.
Thanks Eddie that gives me something to work on tomorrow
Thanks Eddie!
Thanks so much, Eddie! Super video with great instructions
Thanks, Eddie! I always appreciate you making videos for us. 🙌
Thanks Eddie, Great video explaining how this goes together.
