How NOT to write a Master Manipulator - Rings of Power
To manipulate others, one must be smart and sneaky. Halbrand/Sauron is neither.

    Your opening statement is perfect. Unfortunately the writers did not understand the characters they're working with, therefore they cannot write a good manipulator. Why Celebrimbor fall for Annatar and works with him? In the second age Celebrimbor is considered the greatest smith alive in Middle Earth, revered even by dwarves. But he lives in the shadow of his grandfather: Feanor. He want to create something that can compare with Feanor's masterwork: the Silmarils. Annatar offers him a way to do that, the knowledge to forge rings of power. There is no fake "impending doom" in the books, Celebrimbor is just a person that strive for greatness, someone that want to emulate the achievements of his elders. He keeps forging rings even after Annatar departure from Eregion, forging the three elven ring. Why? Again there is no "impending doom", is the simple passage of time and the changes that this bring to motivate Celebrimbor: elves are immortal, they change very little while the world around them change very fast. The power of the three rings (or at least of two of them) is to preserve and sustain. This rings are his attempt to alter the "decay" of the world, to preserve things the way he knows them, to have his surrounding age at the same rate an elf does. In short are his attempt to emulate Valinor, a place where time does not pass, things don't age and die. An immortal land for immortal people. I could go more in depth to explore Celebrimbor motivations, but the comment is already long, and doesn't change the fact that the showrunners did not understand Celebrimbor (or any other character) and had to manufacture dumb reasons to move the plot.

    When Galadriel says it's all his plan, he says he can't plan for everything. So it's ambiguously his plan. Anything that lands is part of the plan. Anything inexplicable is luck or fate conspiring. I think that's how they explained Galadriel running into Sauron on the raft. I think there was a quote that implied it was divine will. So they've given themselves 2 options that let them off the hook for bad writing. Mirdania was a plot device. Sauron having her murdered after the ring incident would have been clinical and established quickly that he meant business. So keeping her around required that she serve a purpose. However, the thing that made her most human was that trauma. Leaving her for a few weeks on the backburner probably meant that her death was less affecting - and less useful for showing Sauron as absolutely vicious. If Sauron underestimated Adar, then that seems a complication in knowing what he'll do in advance. The one thing we know is that Sauron didn't have Adar's measure.

    At least there was no novel for Amazon to follow, and they basically made up the story. This gives a skilful write the chance to rewrite the ehole thing - so everyone can casually laugh RoP into the box of cinema flops. We're not 'stuck' with this version, any more than we are stuck with any other film that is rereleased with modern, popular actors and CGI - like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Someone else with a degree of talent can rewrite this nonsense starting right now, and give it to a director with an equal degree of talent. I'm sure the Tolkien family must be secretly crying out for this.

    The thing that gets me the most is that Sauron had absolutely no reason to even go to Eregion and manipulate Celebrimbor in the first place. He seems to be smarter and better at this than Celebrimbor anyway, and he's not making rings for elves, so why not just go to Kazad-Dum and Numenor to make the rings for elves and men? Besides, as far as he knew, everyone in Eregion should've known he was Sauron and attacked him on sight! The only reason that wasn't the case was because Galadriel was a complete idiot!

    Sauron, the master manipulator of the Rings of Power who is also a beta simp for Galadriel. He does not pine for the wise, ethereal beauty, demigoddess elf queen of The Lord of the Rings movies or books. No, this Sauron craves the love of the Rings of Power Galadriel. An angry, condescending, self-centered whiner and complainer; and to be honest, a somewhat plain looking elf who would probably put Sauron down, every minute of every day, for eternity if she did marry him. Damn, why doesn’t the Rings of Power Sauron just hire a dominatrix if he wants that kind of abuse?

Later Annatar admits he lied AGAIN and wasn't sent by the Valar to help Celebrimbor, but came because he himself needed Celebrimbor's help. He didn't manipulate or even plan one single thing. He's just surrounded by complete idiots.

    Look, while you make all these great points, all it takes to demolish this show doesn't even involve having to go into any writing depth. All you have to do is simply look at it visually. Just the costume designs, props, and VFX are all so campy. The Orcs look like some cosplay outfit compared to the Orcs we're all familiar with from the Jackson trilogy. The locations don't look like actual locations, they look like set pieces built in a studio, and the props look like cheap junk bought online (don't even get me started on the "rings"). The show was designed with one purpose and one purpose only: not to pay homage or follow anything Tolkien wrote, but to gain new subscribers to Amazon.

    • @pohjanakka4992

      Exactly. Then add hiring actors some of who are obviously old, or short, and all of them mostly very average looking - ones who mostly look like if some company decided to have a costume party and the employees mostly dressed as elves - for their elves. Forget the diversity hires, they are not even the main problem here. Their elves are not tall, slim, young looking actors that could be made to look at least somewhat different from the ones playing human characters in their show. Just the ears are definitely not enough. Compare that to the movies and their casting choices, especially the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And despair...

    Pretty sure they reproduce in the novels. Also Adar is likely one of the 1st elves that was tortured and morphed into an orc, hence his dark elf features, and the reverence from the orcs. He probably suffered more than any of them. Idk but Im not going back and reading to find out.

    • @justthinkingoutloud2538
      @justthinkingoutloud2538 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The point is not that orcs don't reproduce, but most animals in the real world reproduce without a loving family unit. The real problem is that the orcs don't love war and violence, the very trait that defines them in the books, and just want to settle down in peace, even while seeming to revel in war in every battle scene. They can't even be consistent while ruining the lore.

    Has the show ever actually said what the rings are for, or what the rings actually do? It kind of just seems like they really really really want to put the rings on because the rings will save the Elves... but they don't seem to explain why it's necessary to risk Sauron's corruption so they can wear the rings. It feels extremely forced and almost like the studio doesn't even know what the rings do, so they're just saying "they need to wear them for reasons! Shutup dumb mortals, enough of your logical questions!"

  • @LaffeeTaffeeGG
    @LaffeeTaffeeGG 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    NotGandalf being there is just for memberberries. He and the other four wizards were sent from Valinor specifically to help the people of Middle-Earth overthrow Sauron. They all knew their jobs when they arrived. They knew exactly who they were, what their powers were, and what to do. They were even specifically told "don't do evil shit because if you do, we're chucking your ass into the void with Sauron." So they knew not to be evil. And they would only be allowed to return to Valinor after Sauron was defeated. So this whole "falling from the sky, having to stumble through life like a manbaby and learning magic powers like Harry Potter while having no idea who you are or why you're there" is complete nonsense, not to mention it's way too early for Gandalf to even be there in the first place.

  • @LaffeeTaffeeGG
    @LaffeeTaffeeGG 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Tolkien does say that the orcs could maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe be redeemed somehow in some way, but it's definitely not because they have families and just want to live in peace. It would take some insane moral gymnastics and a huge amount of development, but because Orcs are a part of Middle-Earth, they're subject to Middle-Earth's rules which are inherently good, which does mean that Orcs have a snowball's chance in the fires of Mount Doom to -be good- not be entirely evil.
