Halibut at Swiftsure Bank - Summer Kick Off
Just getting fishing season kicked off at Sekiu Washington. Keeping the boat at Mason's resort and have the motorhome up the hill. Will be spending the majority of the summer up there and fishing around Neah Bay and the surrounding areas. The water was great and I wanted to test out the new Duckworth 24 Offshore on the ocean - so we headed to Swiftsure Bank in search of some Pacific Halibut. The halibut were thick and fish hit instantly on either bait or copper pipe jigs!
Videos will keep coming this summer as I start to go on more adventures with the family!

Pine Lake Kids Trout Fishing!
มุมมอง 270หลายเดือนก่อน
Always fun to sneak out and chase some trout! The kids are the perfect age to do it all by themselves! Sometimes I get carried away wanting to salmon and halibut fish, but the kids have the most fun when they’re actively involved! Cooper is still learning how many “bonks is enough”🤣🤣🤣
Tomic & Silver Horde Plug Tips - How to Catch Chinook on Plugs
มุมมอง 9K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Fishing plugs might be my all time favorite way to catch Chinook Salmon. Some plugs catch fish, some DON’T!!! In this video I share a number of tips I’ve learned over the years, many from old salty fisherman!
New Ride - Duckworth Offshore 24
มุมมอง 4355 หลายเดือนก่อน
Upgraded the fleet to include a new to me 2016 Duckworth 24' Offshore. Duckworth is the leader in welded heavy- gauge aluminum fishing boats - and the Offshore model is the perfect match to deal with what the chaotic Pacific Northwest has to offer. This boat will be ready for bottom fish (halibut, lingcod, rockfish) salmon, and albacore tuna in the fall. Equipped with a Yamaha 250 main, and Yam...

This video includes a compilation of different footage over the past summer. Most the video takes place around Sekiu, Neah Bay, & Swiftsure Bank. It was a fantastic year for both large chinook, halibut, and lingcod off of the Washington Coast and the Strait of Juan De Luca. Lots of life with whales, birds, and bait bubbling! Cooper & I headed down our dock in Gig Harbor, Washington for some kids bullhead fishing! It’s so great to have a place like Puget Sound as a playground to grow up in! Stay tuned for many more fishing adventures with both my kids! This was my first time trying out a drone. I’m excited to see some of the wildlife footage I will be able to capture. The seals from up above were pretty cool if you ...

Finally yes!! Awesome
Yessir finally getting some blood on the boat! Headed up to Sekiu this weekend for the Ma4 salmon opener. Going to be an awesome summer! If you make it out towards sekiu or neah this year let me know!
@@FishCitrus We were out Westport very snotty Thursday last week, we were only people at launch. Got it done went home. Out lapush week prior same waves lol but got it done. Landed also some silver grey rockfish first time ( not bad eating). BOAT is in for 100hrs maybe out in 2 weeks mid July.
@guymoreland6271 you’ve been busy - right on! Silver Gray rockfish..would be curious what that was! We’ve been getting some black cod the last few years…smoked up a batch last year and it was fantastic. I’ll be at Sekiu till mid August then gonna hitting Westport for Tuna through September. I think I’m most excited about that fishery since I’m still new. Super fun to learn new fisheries.
@@FishCitrus Right on be in touch in Neah eventually and send you Tuna #s August
Have you ever ran a 4 or 6 bead chain above your hook? I feel like that's helped me increase bite percentage. Getting that hook behind the tail in case the fish decides to try and nip its tail first. Great video and insight, thanks!
I have not but thats definately something to consider. Seen many guys use beads for spacers. Tight lines!
Great video dude! I've never chased kings in the salt but i enjoy getting to learn new stuff.
Thanks for following and watching - fishing season is just getting started for myself…I’ll hopefully have a bunch of more cool videos soon! Tight lines
Good points. But, often it's all about colour too. Sometimes the littlest thing can be the difference. With big fry pattern flys that we made, we noticed one rod was always getting the fish. We know that the inside rod can often be more productive, but this rod was always catching, inside or outside. We checked, and both rods had the same flys on, the same colour. But then we noticed a difference. The flys had different coloured eyes on the epoxy heads. It was the littlest detail, but it was a huge factor. We changed the other fly to match, and yup, now that rod lit up too.
Great point…the devil’s in the details and everything matters!
At 5:12 it did not hit like a freight train.
Lol, i thought it did at the time!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I know what you mean about those old special plugs. I had one oldtimer plug while I was commercial fishing with my dad that would outfish everything all the time. It brought in more big chinook than anything else we used. It is probably over 50 years old now. I still have it and use it for sport fishing now, all these years it is still my go to plug. :-)
Great story thanks for sharing! That plug would hurt bad to loose!
Getting any halibut days out?
That plug do need the hook hanger in the middle or back.
my back yard tank you from Bamfield
Very Special Place…been fishing there since I was a kid. We used to camp on Dianna and Haines Island right by Kirby.
Great vid. I fish plugs in 9&10 and usually run them off 5’ leaders with zero issues. 50-60’ behind the boat. I use tomic tubbies and you can fish those a little slower than regular tomics. Best of luck for you and your boat this year and beyond
Great rod footage. Love it when the rods go off. I fish Bamfield every year for 13 years now. Amazing experience.
Exactly…grew up fishing there with my Dad starting in the 90’s. The fish have shrunk in size the but the numbers are still amazing! Hoping to get a bunch of good footage this summer, stay tuned. PS…love the finger to Trudeau!
Plugs are awesome!
The best!
Guys, those are wild fish. Don’t think you can keep two wild each.
First off…there are no wild fish anymore. They are either clipped or unclipped. Neah Bay is one of the few places where you can keep a clipped or nonclipped fish. Been fishing here my whole life and know the regulations despite how confusing they can be. Thanks for your concern though. I suggest you pick up a rules pamphlet and educate yourself.
Teeth marks on the paint might be a good indicator too. Hook rash means it’s been fished. Not a sign of nibbles.
I agree 100%
Good to see kids out fishing
You got that right!
I'm taking my daughter fishing when she turns 4 next year. I can't wait!
Kids love it!!! Really helps when they CATCH! Best of luck to you guys and awesome job introducing your daughter to the awesome sport of fishing!
@@FishCitrus Fishing is a family tradition. My great-grandfather fished for a living, and we had fried catfish with every holiday meal. I remember being 3 or 4 and fishing with my dad with a little bugs bunny fishing rod lol My son is only a year younger than my daughter, so he'll be joining us the next year.
So freaking cool! Thank you for sharing your story!
Bigger than my daily catches ! Hell yeah
I just posted another video on my channel of my son landing one. He got a little carried away with the Bonker. 🤣 Pretty funny, check it out if you have a chance!
Very nice
Sometimes it’s nice just to get back to the basics!
Great job
Thanks, found a perfect little bank spot under a big cedar tree that kept us mostly dry!
The net skills are insane
Right!!! That’s my 7 yr old daughter, she’s amazing! Thanks for watching! I’ll be making more videos of us saltwater fishing this summer! Can’t wait to get them on some rockfish! They’re the perfect age!
Fishing is the best sport
It REALLY is - so much better than sitting in front of a screen! Sad to see our State of Washington try to reduce our hunting and fishing opportunities. So many awesome memories and life long lessons to be found outside in nature seeing God’s beauty.
So awesome to watch. Great job guys ❤😂❤
Thanks for watching! Kids are a hoot!
The one SUPER IMPORTANT thing that I forgot to talk about - Clip your line in at least 20-30 feet behind the ball. The farther back, the more room the plug will have to dance around. Think about it as walking a dog on a leash - a 1ft leash keeps the dog at your side, a 10ft leash lets the dog roam!
Any scent on them?
Fantastic question…I’m not a fan of using the smelly jelly or oily based products. Somehow/someway it gets on the Scotty Release clips and you’ll end up false popping off all day. I wash my plugs right before they go down with either Lemon Joy or ProCure makes a cool foaming soap product called “Bad Azz Hand and Lure Soap”.
you’ve nailed this! The very best advice you impart is the hook offset . From mooching for salmon to jiggling for bottom fish, the hook offset is the secret to good hook sets
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for leaving a comment Ron! Fishing is funny…everything matters! The devil’s in the details!
It's called the Dr.Thoke bend.
Westport Thursday? Halibut
I wish!!! Kids got school and someone has to take them and pick em up from the bus stop! I have a few buddies anxiously checking the forecast. You planning on going Guy?
Great advice on Plugs Sam. I’m subscribed so hopefully that will help to keep the lights on!
Thank you!
Hey great vid!
Thank you…was my first season playing around with a camera! Looks forward to new catching and getting better footage! Thanks for watching!
Pulling hootchies for ling cod near the kelp, produces some big lings as well
I like that tip!
That will float some rough weather 👏👏👏
Looking forward to a few trips up the Island. Got married at April Point and grew up fishing around Telegraph Cove quite a bit. Love the Island Life!
WHOA!! Where near shore are you out there?
If you know Neah Bay it’s no secret…we are literally right outside the entrance to the harbor mouth.
I like to bring my DR weights into the boat and get the DR arm out of the way to net or release. Love it when we can see the fish
I agree with you - especially if there is a big fish... you want to minimize the change of anything going wrong. On this trip at Barkley we were averaging 20-30 kings to a net a day, so we were pretty relaxed about playing fish and if we lost one it was only another 5-10 minutes till the next! Thanks for watching the video!
@@FishCitrus great to have that luxury! Thanks for you response! Might have to head up there next summer. I need to retire!!!
If you go, you want the second week of August till the end of August. Can’t miss the run! And make sure you have anchovies!!! White squid is a decent backup but not the same!
Put it back. If it made this long at that size without getting caught, then allow it to live. Even though I love blackened or lemon peppered mahi mahi.
The whole community came down to see the catch and it gets shared among them to feed their families. It was pretty cool to see. Im all for catch and release too…but after being educated on how fast they grow and what a sustainable resource they are, I didn’t have an qualms keeping it. Was a privilage to see one that big in person!
Need a bigger gaff too lol
No kidding! This was attempt number 2….Carlos botched the first try 🤣! I have video of that too!!!
Oh lord! That's a toad man!
Thanks man, a fish I’ll never forget….fought so much different than a classic 8-12lber!
And to beleive this is only a 2, maybe 3yr old fish.
It was my first time fishing pelagic species! First day we hook about a dozen mahi and I released 8 of them. Told the lodge owner and he laughed and said no no no, it’s the fastest growing fish in the ocean, they’re okay to keep! No more releasing! After eating them I agreed; in the box they go!
If that. Great sustainable fish.
Carlos’ mouth was watering. Tacos de Marlin 😋
🤣🤣🤣
Shrimp are bottom feeders, mercury, heavy metals, toxic chemicals, etc.
You are correct, you have the be careful how much you consume from Elliot Bay. It was a fun trip but yes I would agree I’d rather consume shrimp caught elsewhere bc of the heavy metals.
Парусник попадается даже реже,чем марлин!
Thank you for watching! Fish on!
Now you're talking, ready for tuna yet?
Working on getting tuna ready!!! Next project is installing a Lone Star Anchor Drum Winch and Diesel Heat….I’m sure a bait tank for anchovies is not far behind!!!
@@FishCitrus Nice I will see you on the water, do you have a handle and channel #.
Boat’s name is “Unleashed” and I typically monitor 68. Mainly fish out of Sekiu/Neah in the summer but make my way to Westport a handful of times as well.
Us too except lapush this year, we are in a 28' black raider always out Westport, neah and the hood I'll send you our # s tomorrow, call out if you need some #'s get on the fish. My handle is bug guy.

Nice video production and a great year for salmon.
Thanks Dad, was a great year indeed!
Awesome 😊
Thanks - need to summer to start to get more footage! Excited to try using a drone!

Thanks for the support Young Moula 😜
I showed my boys this video, they are excited to catch a big one
Right on! Get em away from video games and get them outdoors! 👍🏼
Really great to see you guys out catching
I watched this three times in a row. Your son is the star attraction. The fish is great, but his joy, excitement and enthusiasm is awesome. You are one lucky dad, and a great one in my book. You have a lifetime fishing buddy there. Great job dad!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Leave it in gear!!
So cool!!
Oh Hell yeah!
Yeah baby! ❤
