Responsabilizando a las empresas por las violaciones de los derechos humanos: El caso Doe contra Chiquita Brands en el contexto del proceso de justicia y paz en Colombia
Escucha la abogada Marissa Vahlsing, Directora Legal en EEUU de EarthRights International, compartir con nosotros los entresijos del caso Doe contra Chiquita.
Este caso, el primero de una serie de juicios sobre la materia, ha estado en litigio durante más de 17 años, pero finalmente los demandantes -víctimas de terrorismo, tortura y ejecuciones extrajudiciales por parte de escuadrones paramilitares colombianos que actuaban con financiación de Chiquita- vencieron y un jurado les concedió 38 millones de dólares. Vahlsing hablará de las oportunidades y limitaciones de litigar en los tribunales de EE.UU. demandas colombianas por daños y perjuicios, y de lo que esta victoria significa para los demandantes, el proceso de justicia y paz en Colombia, y el futuro de la exigencia de responsabilidades a las empresas por su complicidad en violaciones de los derechos humanos. La acompañarán defensores de los derechos humanos en Colombia.
