Ignorant question. The bottom staff is labeled "Violone e Cembalo," which means "Violone and Harpsichord." There's no written out harpsichord part because the role of the harpsichord was to accompany. The left hand would double the bass line and the right hand would improvise a mostly chordal accompaniment.

No, it's not. You idiotically assumed that if an Italian Baroque composer used a similar sounding motif in a piece in G major, then it follows that the last movement of this Bach work must be "based on" the Italian work.

@@samaritan29 That's ignorant nonsense. The very definition of early music is that the score doesn't represent the composer's full intentions. Furthermore, you will find dynamic markings in some Baroque scores, especially in vocal music. Also, the performing parts often contain markings not found in the score. Musicians in Bach's time mainly performed contemporary music, and they performed it according to contemporary performance practice.

There are _piano_ and _forte_ markings on the 1st page!

BWV 1047 was the first choice of music voted on to be represented as the pinnacle of human achievement on the Voyager satellite. One scientist even wanted to send the complete works of Bach, but said it would be too boastful.
