RSF Tales Of A Hobby Farmer
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ม.ค. 2022
Every day my family and I are learning what it means to run a hobby farm. We started with chickens then added myotonic (fainting) goats, and eventually kunekune (kune kune) pigs. Throw in some Guinea fowl and cats and dogs with a creek and tons of wildlife and you start to get an idea of what our hobby farm is like. Hobby farming is time consuming and hard, but rewarding and fulfilling. There are daily chores that never stop. The animals need to be fed and watered. Pastures and pens need to be fenced and built. Goats and pigs need to be rotated in their pastures to give them fresh food and to rejuvenate the land. Food is planted and grown for the animals. Medicines are given orally and injected to prevent and cure sickness and combat parasites. Hooves need to be trimmed. Babies need to be raised. At any given time we have gilts, sows, boars, piglets, bucks, does, kids, chicks, chickens, etc. that need our attention, love and care. Follow along and we’ll learn together.
A BOOT JACK IS A MUST HAVE ON A FARM - WHAT IS A BOOT JACK, YOU ASK?
Time to give the boars a treat instead of the sows & gilts. Every farm should have a boot jack. It is a tool that is used to help pull your boot off. It is super simple to use and saves you from breaking your toes trying to push off a boot! It is now in the winter doldrums. Cold and rainy and gray for days and days. Mud everywhere you go! I still have to feed the pigs in the mud, but I put their feed on top of hay to keep it dry and to give them some ruffage. Big Mama always bullies her way into the middle of the food source. A chicken or guinea laid some super little eggs. Kind of weird, but nothing to worry about. I tell you a story about when I was a kid and my dad played with me and my sister by scaring us so bad we fell to the ground on our backs! I bring in some feed from the garage that had been in there only one night only to see that the mice had already begun to get into it. The new hay that I bought last week seems to be doing well with the picky goats. Yay! I will demonstrate how to use a boot jack.

IS THERE A SAFE WAY TO CONTROL MICE IN A CHICKEN COOP?
มุมมอง 12221 วันที่ผ่านมา
It is around 10 degrees! The goats have turned into sheep with super thick coats and down! Romeo is still small enough to pick up - about half the size of his mother. I have fed my goats and pigs hay during the winter. I have not been too concerned as to the type of hay and they have flourished. I usually buy hay from a friend or a local grainery. Most of the hay I've purchased has been green a...
COLD WEATHER MEANS SOME CHANGES ON THE FARM INCLUDING FIGHTING FAMILY MEMBERS

It is going to be super cold for the next week (under 20 degrees F). I have to do some things for the animals so they can handle the cold. The pigs challenge me as always to get to where they anticipate I'm going to feed them. So I outsmart them! Now begins the months of breaking up the ice in their water bowls. I am most worried about my little buckling (Romeo) because he is alone and needs co...

The piglets are growing and still cute. It tried to snow, but it wasn't too successful. The boars, especially PawPaw, love to love on me by rubbing and pushing on my legs, but they have sharp, spikes coming out of their mouths so it's kinda scary. I transfer the boars to a new pasture for fresh grass. I tell the story of when I was a kid involving Bob White Quails. The pigs and I always play a ...
SOMETHING STRANGE IN MY GLOVE!
มุมมอง 246หลายเดือนก่อน
Around new years I always reward the bucks with a Christmas tree. They love it and it is a natural de-wormer. I went to put on my glove and my ring finger is stuffed with something. I massaged it to see what it was and a mouse jumped out! That was a quick scare, but I dispatched it promptly so all is good. Romeo is so small that I am beginning to wonder if Ringo is the dad instead of Kubo. I fi...

It's always a fun game and effort to feed my animals, especially my pigs. They have such huge heads that get in the way. They are smart and wait for me to run to where they think I will feed them. I think I found a solution. I am sad because I realized that next spring I won't have any baby mammals. I will have chicks and keets, but circumstances won't let me have any kids or piglets next sprin...

I can't sneak up on my animals because if one sees me they 'talk' to each other and lets each other know I'm coming. My big boar is growing tusks. They may be dangerous, but I want them to remain as they were made to be. I just have to be careful when I love on him. I try to race the pigs to their feed bowl to feed them and I do the same thing with the cats, but Danke knows how to beat me! Kune...

Now i know.
Gets to the point 6:30 minutes in.
@@yogsothoth5370 Yeah, kinda tough to pinpoint a thumbnail and talking point when I talk about a ton of things. Sorry about that, but I hope you found what you were looking for nonetheless!
I remember in another video you called a guinea "ugly thing", maybe that's why they don't wanna talk to you. Also i think this sound chickens made in this video is pretty cool. And cockadudledoo is overrated.
@@williamblake7386 I think guineas are beautiful with a face only a mother would love. Chickens are subtle in their language, but love to talk to you. They can be sweet. Roosters can be mean.
good amount of eggs to train yourself and Pawpaw to do eating tricks.
@@williamblake7386 lol! Probably too rotten for me!!
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer I mean when you feed it to him you both need more training to avoid some tusk scars and misses when eggs drops to the ground.
I think kune flock of different sizes is the most positive and entertaining thing one can have on a farm.
Do you have kk's?
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer I am a lone guy laying on my bed with a laptop. Was unhealthy for 10 years, now it almost resolved and i am trying to return to normal life step by step. My only experience with farm life was decades ago when i was a little kid. But i watch plenty of it on youtube nowadays.
these sweet things, i love them[0:28]
amazing , the animals on the farm are really nice , i love them , keep up the good work[14:20]
I live in Southern Az. So the AC is always on. This will be my 1st winter with SD. You don't worry about the heating pad getting too hot. I know I read that temps over 170° will kill the bacteria and yeast. Haven't had that issue yet lol. I just read it. I so want to start friendship bread.
Hilarious they stand in the middle! We have similar issues with food 😂
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Pawpaw: -Hey boss, wanna play some sumo wrestling? Cmon, we are almost the same size!
This piggy makes me laugh
Fuckin gunshot in the backround lol
@@Laluna2345 yeah, I have some neighbors that will do that. It's all good.
Love the energy you remind me of my dad 👌
If i were an animal i'd like to spend my life as a barn cat
Hey, i saw a bunch of turkey videos and remembered you said you kinda liked your first try with them. I knew it's big bird but 30+ kg? Damn they can be big. 5 something months of age. Also people say the bigger the bird the better the meat, somehow i always thought the opposite.
They were easy peasy to take care of. I may do it again soon. And, yes...big birds!
If i was you i'd surely call the butcher. You are not lazy. And yes, Pawpaw ears deserve more screen time.
Only pigs responded. Life is empty without pigs.
Aww
❤
i love this channel!!!
So you are full of evil plans. I forgot, why do you have goats? milk? meat?
Fainting goats are mainly for pets. They are not good milkers and don't have as much meat as boers, but I may use them for meat one day. We'll see.
You need to hit the gym to withstand the kune power. Also i think tusk trimming is nothing special after watching a bunch of videos. Pawpaw is quite friendly for a big boar and deserves more hugs from you if not these tusks.
@@williamblake7386 definitely
Barn cats are very important for the society
pretty cool any plans for some other animals?
@@williamblake7386 no hard plans, but anything could happen!
How many turkeys do you have? 😂🦃
@@Thefourturkeys At the time we had 5. But they sure love to eat!
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer awsome
Happy pigs indeed!
No idea how are you still alive
Did you know these goat antics before you get them?
The ones I bought, no. The ones raised from birth on the farm I got used to as they grew up!
Your animals are pretty.. cylindrical, chubby. Good looking fatties. How did you do that if seemingly you feed them not much. Pigs do not have a full bowl of food in their area or something.
How old are your kunekune pigs? We got one and he is like over 200lbs...he's very destructive...tears up fence and chewed up his wood 6x 8 chicken coop...
@@angelasalah2626 at the time several.were about a year old and one 18 months. I've had them all since piglets and handled them a lot. I have a boar and sow that are well over 200 lbs and they are gentle giants. They haven't been destructive, but they have a nice pasture area and are fed regularly. Does he have a friend? KK's need companions. Maybe he is trying to tell you he is frustrated without a friend. 🤥
This is how major fires start. 🤬
Love the laugh😂
Title in the news: "Crazy farmer uses his teenage daughter to carry livestock" 😛 Goats are weird. No problem with hooftrimming but will bully each other to death.
Thats a nice egg!
Oh boy😅 lol
Jesus dude wheres the damn fungus. I didnt click to watch your ass walk around and ramble on about shit nobody cares about.
🤣 🤣 🤣

New to your channel and loving it. Thanks 😀
Welcome aboard, I'm glad you like it. Just me going about my business. Lol!
Ya I feel for those ladies, lol
It’s a double yolker. Young hens do it a lot. It breaks them in lol.
I had a brown chicken that would lay massive eggs all the time sometimes it would have extra shell growth like little fragments that looked like it was trying to do another shell around it idk much about chickens but I'm sure it's fine
You have a 🦃?
Lol, no!
@Gwar211 I agree.
Super common. Probably a double yoker.
I thought the same thing 🤪
You leave that sparrow alone
If you kill a farm animal, you start a new life. Conversely, if you don't kill, it means that someone will never be born. So basically it's a dilemma, let one animal live for 5 years and four animals live for 0 years or let five animals live for 1 year each. This is the harsh truth of life and not killing is not a better option, as you can see.
Lmao 😂😂 the last mmmmm cracked me up yo
