SOMETHING STRANGE IN MY GLOVE!
Around new years I always reward the bucks with a Christmas tree. They love it and it is a natural de-wormer. I went to put on my glove and my ring finger is stuffed with something. I massaged it to see what it was and a mouse jumped out! That was a quick scare, but I dispatched it promptly so all is good. Romeo is so small that I am beginning to wonder if Ringo is the dad instead of Kubo. I figured out a way to connect several pens to use on a rotational basis. My favorite goat is Meadow...I love her. I've been lucky this winter because it hasn't been below 32 degrees very much. The pigs and goats enjoy a treat of cauliflower and grapes. I got a great headlamp for Christmas that has a spotlight mode that lets me see things many yards away. I have seen much more nightlife because of it. It is now the time of year that I play a game with the goats and put the hay they left behind back in the hay feeder up front to make them eat through it. hahahahaha.
Every day my family and I are learning what it means to run a hobby farm. We started with chickens then added myotonic, or fainting, goats, and eventually kunekune (kune kune) pigs. Throw in some Guinea fowl and turkeys and cats and dogs with a creek and tons of wildlife and you start to get an idea of what our hobby farm is like. Hobby farming is time consuming and hard, but rewarding and fulfilling. There are daily chores that never stop. The animals need to be fed and watered. Pastures and pens need to be fenced and built. Goats and pigs need to be rotated in their pastures to give them fresh food and to rejuvenate the land. Food is planted and grown for the animals. Medicines are given orally and injected to prevent and cure sickness and combat parasites. Hooves need to be trimmed. Babies need to be raised. At any given time we have gilts, sows, boars, piglets, bucks, does, kids, chicks, chickens, keets, guineas, turkeys, etc. that need our attention, love and care. Follow along and we’ll learn and grow on this adventure together!

THIS PIG MIGHT FLY! (SOMEDAY) NICE PERFECT HUGE EARS!!
มุมมอง 24514 วันที่ผ่านมา
It's always a fun game and effort to feed my animals, especially my pigs. They have such huge heads that get in the way. They are smart and wait for me to run to where they think I will feed them. I think I found a solution. I am sad because I realized that next spring I won't have any baby mammals. I will have chicks and keets, but circumstances won't let me have any kids or piglets next sprin...

I can't sneak up on my animals because if one sees me they 'talk' to each other and lets each other know I'm coming. My big boar is growing tusks. They may be dangerous, but I want them to remain as they were made to be. I just have to be careful when I love on him. I try to race the pigs to their feed bowl to feed them and I do the same thing with the cats, but Danke knows how to beat me! Kune...

WHAT I'VE LEARNED THIS LAST YEAR ON THE FARM
มุมมอง 97หลายเดือนก่อน
I have learned so much on the farm within the last year. Myotonic / fainting goats are not really easy to sell. They are a niche goat (not meat or dairy) that is kept mainly as a pet. I love them and find them easy to confine them, but I find it difficult to find ready buyers for them. That is for various reasons including how the economy is at this time. That's ok as I did not start this farm ...

I have to put heating elements in the goats' water pans and trade out the chickens' nipple waterer with a heated dog water bowl. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! WE HAVE A FENCE CLIMBING PIG ON THE FARM!

The farm has one less pig because one was sold yesterday! Pigs have the loudest, bloodcurdling screech when they are in distress or scared or in pain. Romeo is recuperating. I am teaching the pigs to take hay as a supplement. I have used alfalfa pellets and sunflower seeds in the past, but that can be expensive. PawPaw has learned to climb up on the fence for food! PIGS AND PUMPKINS / DOES WANTING BUCKS

It's time to feed the pigs our left over pumpkins and they love them! The piglets have never had pumpkins before. It is now the season for the does to start eyeing the bucks. You need to hit the gym to withstand the kune power. Also i think tusk trimming is nothing special after watching a bunch of videos. Pawpaw is quite friendly for a big boar and deserves more hugs from you if not these tusks.

If you kill a farm animal, you start a new life. Conversely, if you don't kill, it means that someone will never be born. So basically it's a dilemma, let one animal live for 5 years and four animals live for 0 years or let five animals live for 1 year each. This is the harsh truth of life and not killing is not a better option, as you can see.
