After a month-long hiatus from the synths due to lots of travelling, I couldn't wait to get my hands back on the gear, especially the Solar 42F by Elta. This is only the second time I turn it on and wow, does it deliver on the space magic front!
"Telumendil" is a slight change from my usual full auto generative pieces, leaning more into the performative nature of the Solar 42F. Here's the rundown of this cosmic trip:
Solar 42F by Elta: The star of the show, providing instant space vibes with its lush reverbs and deep analog bass. While my Eurorack is automating the chords and some sound qualities, I'm hands-on with the filter, distortion, and reverb for that real-time piloting feel.
Chord Structure: Four voices of the Solar are dedicated to chords, creating a rich harmonic backdrop.
Generative Lead: The fifth Solar voice takes on lead duties, with notes fed by Mutable Instruments Marbles for that evolving melody.
Endorphin.es Squawk Dirty: Sculpting the frequency content of the lead.
Intellijel Veno Echo: Adding depth and space to the lead line.
Nagra IV-D: Looping a series of pre-recorded pings for extra texture.
Endorphin.es Ghost: Processing the Nagra recordings with delay and verb.
Mutable Instruments Beads: A final reverb stage for the lead and Nagra voices.
Teenage Engineering TX-6: Handling the final reverb and mixing duties.
The result is deeply atmospheric, a sonic representation of piloting through vast, unknown spaces. Mix and volume is all over the place, but it felt good on the moment. It might not be my most refined piece, but sometimes you've got to capture the moment when you're in the zone. This was one of those times where the synths and I were navigating the cosmos together.
