Beautiful. What a worthy conversion!
Engine and Driveline layout makes perfect sense to us Renault16 owners. The transmissions from these and the 16's make for a really easy choice for a light Mid-Rear toy, like a Lotus Europa. EV conversion, and that cute little badge, the DS21 has to be the ideal classic to do sort of conversio,.. no,.. "Update" to. With a little careful design, it could even look like it was built that way new. Keeping the gearbox, instead of the single speed drive of many new EV's, also means you've got a gear to cruise long range, and ones for pulling loads. The DS21 Wagon's always did make excelent camera platforms, EV would make them quieter for filming from.
Stunning and fitting conversion. Marvelous! To by a bit pesky so: Why electronique and not electrique? I mean it certainly has electronics but the drive is electric init? ;)
This has to be the best electric car I've seen never mind a conversion, it was so advanced when new if it had been electric it wouldn't have surprised anyone.

I've always been a fan of the DS and thought that it would be an obvious choice for someone to convert, instead of Ferraris etc. Brilliant work, it's very much top of the bucket list!

The people who buy these aka who have the money, aren't concerned. You, who can not afford one, is for some reason concerned.
The hundreds of afficionados who daily drive them & gather together on WE will have a different opinion. When whole businesses exist, successfully, to keep a single model alive, it's not in a vacuum.

Nonsense. The original ICE is dreadful & NOBODY buys a DeLorean for its engine or the sound. This small coupé was made to be electrified. Just hoping that the cost of conversion will go down because it's a bit spicy now.

Not that it was possible in the early 80s, but this is how the car should have always been... after staring in the movies. It just seems more appropriate. Especially now that the Cyberturd is out.
I'm a gear head, so, I dig anything that can make one of these old turds go better than the wheezing V6 that came as factory stock! To me, that was the biggest let down with these when new, was the lack of power, especially in such a hyoed up car! Otherwise, they were so much different to what was on the market, it seemed they would have been a bigger success if only they had put a good engine in them. Anything but that Peugeot boat anchor thing.
It is a big improvement! And the drive is awesome - it now has the performance to match it's looks.
I read recently that the plan was to eventually move to a twin-turbo version of the Peugeot Renault Volvo V6; that would have been more like it.
@@mrflippant The aspect that was so maddening back in the day was that they could have chosen any number of powerplants with some actual power, and, they didn't! Shame that, because I always thought that they were fairly cool cars other than the wheezer engine.

@@Rob-eg8qc I remember. I was an avid automobile fan even back then, and I do remember the fervor in the auto press regarding such. Imagine how cool that car could have been with a small, smooth V8? One wonders who could have supplied something already available back then. Most American V8 engines were rather heavy, and anything else would have been a Ferrari, or Heaven save us, the Rover, which was the old Buick 215! Actually not a bad engine though.

Missing the point. It's a timeless collectible, like a Merc 300 SL. A monument of automotive industry. The price for a barn DeLorean in good condition is 70K$ & steadily going up year after year. People who buy one will keep it for life (& will upgrade the🔋+ electronics 15 years from now when better stuf is available).

Great kit, but at $85-$100k, not many will be sold, especially in America where most DeLoreans still reside. Only 42 kWh, no NACS port, and air conditioning is an optional upgrade...I hope the price at least includes labor, but I'm going to guess, no.
Yes, this is a premium product, designed specifically for the DeLorean and tuned to turn it into a true sports car. NACS ports will be added as they become more readily available - we anticipate 2025, alongside BMW, Lotus, Polestar, etc. The CCS charge port currently fitted is fully compatible with commercial NACS adapters. We kept the weight of the car unchanged from the original, because we wanted to liberate the Lotus-designed handling and we didn’t want to bleed away all that power and torque on extra batteries. We have turned a stately old lady into a beast that strains at the leash and corners like it’s on rails - and we like it like that. The range is a real-world 150 miles and you can recharge in under an hour. The price includes fitting: nurse your asthmatic petrol cruiser in, and race your reborn DeLorean sports car out of the shop, all inclusive. The key to this conversion is the awesome drive - after all this time, a DeLorean with the performance and handling to match its street presence. Drive it - you won’t be disappointed.

Some cars really suit an EV conversion - some don't. This is the former...
Why don't they build it new like this? Perhaps a little more crash resistance ... It's so much more elegant than all the fat cars you see on the road nowadays.
It is a very elegant car - we are very pleased that now it is electric it can keep up effortlessly with modern traffic.
Imagine if Citroën redesigned the car's structure to modern standards with 3 EV drive train options: single motor with FWD or RWD, whichever handles beter, as the econo model, 4wd dual motor for a sports option, and a 4wd with in-wheel motors for a grand tourer while keeping the original exterior and interior with as few tasteful changes as possible. The car's performance would finally equal its looks. Dream car.

😂I know, it's not so easy
On paper the specs seem similar the ice Volvo makes between 100 to 135 hp and the torque is almost 1:1. The EV 1800 has much more torque 120hp and 235 Nm. But the batteries add 280-300kg 640-660 lbs. My money would be on the EV.
The equivalent of turning a museum quality car into a hot rod. Just because you can, does not mean you should.
How does a conversion like this affect the balance and handling? I'd presume with a change in weight distribution there's an impact or do you factor that in to your builds? Do you also have to modify the suspension?

I’m speechless! You guys are incredible, I have seen a 2cve, but it didn’t have registration, pointless conversion really. This is going to make you live on long after petrol cars are gone. My question though is, how much did the conversion cost???
