Henry Ford Was The Original Grill Master?

Ford Motor Company sold more than one million Ford Model Ts in 1919. Each one used 100 board feet of wood for parts such as frame, dashboard, steering wheel and wheels. Because of the amount of wood used, Henry Ford decided to produce his own supply. He enlisted the help of Edward G. Kingsford, a real estate agent in Michigan, to locate a supply of wood. Kingsford’s wife was a cousin of Ford. I...

The first part of this film is going south on Michigan Ave in Chicago. However, the last part is clearly NYC. You can see a number of businesses that say "Times Square" in their name.
Gotta love it. 371 blower on a 21 stud flatty. I can also see the bones aren't split and it has friction shocks. I'm guessing probably a pre-war deuce... Can't see but maybe a pair of Stromberg 97's or maybe even some Holley 94's. Love the sheet metal plate adapter for the blower mount.
What track was where most of this filmed? I see a NJ on some cars J
Boosted rat motor
Old school cool right there
Proper racer back then 👍 good tunes aswell 👍🇬🇧
He probably probably knew that if he told Henry from the beginning, he would have been told NO.
The problems with h the repros from China remind me of the "rebuilt" Rochester B carbs I put on my Chevy Stovebolt. The floats on both were way too low, they both had doubled up airhorn gaskets, one of them had the wrong accelerator pump plunger the other had a float that became loaded.
Chevy Small Blocks can also suffer from low fuel pump pressure, and for the same reason - a worn pump push rod.
Many engines tend to get hot without a thermostat. One outlier is the second generation Chevy Stovebolt. The water passage that feeds the upper hose neck is a narrow slot - naturally restrictive.
1975, 15 yrs old, bought my 1st car. ‘51 Ford custom w/a 239 v-8. Great car.
Streets were nice and clean, but the jaywalking is amazing. Maybe that’s just what they did.
Think I saw John Dillinger ha ha😂
Kill the horrible totally unnecessary music 👎👎👎👎💩💩😬
I hate to think how many 40 Ford coupes were chopped up for stock cars and then discarded. They were just old cars back them.
Stay away from the cheap Amazon Chinese carburetors. I work in the power equipment repair business and customers try to save money by ordering and installing cheap Chinese junk. Nine out of ten times, these things are faulty , leaking gas all over. A new OEM carburetor solves the issue.
Another wonderful city ruined by the animals.

What are your thoughts on using a block that has been pinned and sleeved due to cracks between valves and cylinders? Thats my situation. My machine shop guy says it'll be fine
Yes, you should be totally OK. I have had a block with all 8 cylinders sleeved, and it worked great. You should have any issues. Sleeves are better than they used to be.
Would a single carb aluminum 8BA intake assist in reducing carb temps or no? I have a 5/8 phenolic spacer between the intake and carb in my heat passages are blocked in carbs still getting pretty hot. I'm finding it hard to start after it's been shut down for a little while
2 things is to pull the intake and put in to plugs where the exhaust heat risers are. Or if you think your getting vapor lock symptoms also check to make sure your coil isn't getting to hot. Often that is what is causing the hard to start issue.
A fuel return line may help
Very helpful video. I just bought a 53 Ford custom line with the 239 and it runs and drives fine .
So awesome. Best video I’ve seen in a while.
fantastic, wish this was out before I bought my boat anchor but still learned a bunch!
Oops, 239/255

The Model T Ford always had radius rods on the rear and front axles from the beginning of production until the end. The problem was that they were mounted to the TOP of the FRONT axle at the spring perch. A definite design flaw. In 1919 they were moved to the underside of the axle, thereby preventing collapse of the axle under certain conditions.
Good video, what is the name of the mobile registration service in a Riverside
Love this channel. I'm over in the UK. I'm restoring a 1942 Universal Bren Gun Carrier which I imported from Canada. I spent x2yrs restoring the engine, sourcing parts from around the world. When I found it it was just a block & x2 cyl heads. The carburettor was a very rare Governed Zenith. Being around 80 years old it was structurally worn out. When I ran my smoke machine through it there was smoke coming out of just about everywhere! It took quite a while to build the shafts to a serviceable condition & replace all the tiny ball bearings which support each end of the mechanism. Eventually I completed the task which included mechanically disabling the governor which provided instant throttle response. Very happy with the end results. The vehicle restoration continues. Keep up the great content. Regards from the UK
As a kid (~13yo) used gasoline as to start a campfire. The resulting fuel-air explosion, sent a half dozen logs, each weighing between 10 to 20 lbs flying a dozen feet in the air. None managed to hit me. Never did that again !
I am a 71 years old man, bored and raised in the mechanical field, something that always puzzle me is how could it be that those old flat head engines always run smoother than the newer engines?, back then the technology wasn't as sophisticated as now.
I've always liked your "stories". They are factual and entertainingly told.
Ok. So it takes a downdraft carburetor. Why are y’all stuck with the one style of carb? No intakes that take a normal 2 barrel Holley or Edlebrock or something plentiful and cheap? Junkyards are still full of old carburetors but you’re acting like there a right way and a wrong way to patchwork a jelopy back into the road. I grew up seeing horrors and rat rods and rat rods were all about using what was cheap and available to make something cool, hot rods were about driving way faster than the damn thing and most often the driver could handle.
I plan to do a video about alternative options. I just didn't want this video to run to long. I am use to doing 3 minute TikTok Videos. So long format, I am still finding my groove.

I ❤ old FORD Flatheads 👍🏻🇺🇸😊
I got the Speedway carb 3 years ago and it's working great on my stock 49 8BA.
Good to hear. Like I said, a broken clock is right 2 times a day.
hahahahaha and the rear cylinder on buick straight eights isn't prone to overheating either hahahaha. At 75 I had more than a few flatties over the years and we always got a bit nervous in really warm weather We didn't have aluminum rads and high perf cooling chemicals back then though. My 41 Ford shorty dump truck never liked long grades with, or without, a load and it was well maintained. Everything has its' plusses and minuses.
Had a neighbor in the 70s that rebuilt flatties. After stripping down the block, he and his friends would pick it up and drop it on 3 layers of plywood on the pan side. then on the manifold side, then flip it around a bit. a lot of rust would fall out of the inside of the block passages.
Just got a 1953 Ford custom line and started following the flat spot. You are very informative and helpful. Thanks
Old guy here who was driving in the 50's when flattie Fords and Mercs were around in the used market. Had a few. By 1960 you could buy a shoe box Ford with 100,000 miles for $50 with intact glass and a straight body. Gasoline was $0.19 for regular. And we lived in the Santa Cruz mountains. So lots of pretty good hills to climb. All those old flatties over heated. And that's where the urban legend came from - used cars. Pulling a grade in second gear with a worn engine pumping exhaust through the water jacket, yup they'd be bubbling away. But that was true of Chryslers flathead six's too. Every body wanted OHV used cars cause they were easier to keep cool 😅
These engines have come a long way with a don't of improved parts. That may have been the case in 1950s and 60s. But it is honestly rarely a problem with modern improvements.
Does this information also apply to the Lincoln V12 flathead?
Yes and no. The v12s had other problems. Such as bad crank case ventilation and often over heating was caused by missing pump baffles.
It doesn't matter which one of these "replica" or original carburetors you use...they will ALL percolate with the ethanol fuels and even with non ethanol fuels. I remedied my issue with the proper regulator and a return line. It's eliminated ALL my leaking issues...even on the hottest of days!! Love your stuff man...keep it up!
I've just returned to the Hotrob scene after selling my '35 5 Window Ford back in '72. I was very pleased to have discovered the extent of the development in the Hotrod/Vintage parts distribution industry. I was also very fortunate to have had a very bad introduction to two of the dominant Hotrod/Vintage parts dealers which resulted in my completely eliminating them from my 'phone book' - thus, saving myself significant aggravation over the last two and a half years !
i take issue with anyone that says "you cant daily" and then name a car or truck. hell i once met a guy that daily drove a retired semi truck as his personal vehicle. if you make the claim that it cant be driven daily. than i think it speaks to YOU as a person. not the vehicle. short of a trabant. i dont know of many vehicles id say you cant daily. but thats based on reliablity. or lack thereof. not creature comforts. want good fuel economy and ac? you probably dont belong in a classic. its that simple lol as far as "well fuel economy 😮💨" well. dont drive it. ill drive what i like lol i like c10 chevys. i dailyed my c10 till i blew the engine. 😒
Would Turbocharging with a 4 barrel intake with Electronic fuel injection and Electronic ignition be a good combination for a daily driveable flathead? And I would consider 18 - 20Mpg "good" fuel mileage for a classic hotrod is that possible? Especially whith higher geared rear-end in a light vehicle?
My Flat 6 has a vintage Fish carb. Works great. Chances are you won't find one though.
Ford never made a flat 6. The Corvair had one, the Porsche still does.
You're kidding right? I have 2 Ford Flat 6's. Do your research dude. Lol
You put Corvair engines in your Fords? Seriously, I worked as a mechanic years ago and we never called flatheads "Flat" engines. Ever. We knew that the VW, Corvair, and Porsche were the only cars that used FLAT engines, and all three of them had overhead valves. Ford 6s all were inline or Straight engines until the 80s, when they came out with a V6, the Essex engine.
@@jamesbosworth4191 Your busting my balls for calling my Flathead 6 a Flat 6? Really? Ok, Mr Overly Technical, my 2 Ford trucks, a 51 F1 and a 52 F3 both have stock Flathead 6 engines made by Ford...jeez some people.
@@ericargo9157 People under a certain age think everything they see in the Internet is gospel, so we OVER that age have to make sure we are putting out correct info, as once they see it, NOBODY, but NOBODY can tell them otherwise.
Would a holley 2300 or autolite 2100 be a good alternative? It would require adapters, but would it be too much carb? Only reason I ask is because I have a reman auto lite 2100 from holley on the shelf. At some point I may go to sniper 2300. Thanks for the videos.
Yes, absolutely! You can even do a 4brl 390 cfm carb. And as for the sniper. You have the right idea. I am going with a 2300 on my build.
Ok so what do you recommend for the 337 found in the 51 Lincoln?
The stock carbs on the lincolns where not that bad. I think you can get rebuild kits through Daytona Carburetor in Florida.
