Mighty Knitty Machines
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ต.ค. 2011
I am obsessed with knitting and with learning about knitting machines of all kinds. I seek out machines, rescue, clean, and analyze them because I want to know how they work (I guess being a scientist by trade helps).
The videos I post on my channel I make for knitting machines I service and test. I do that to preserve information about these wonderful machines and also to let my clients know that they will be getting a fully tested knitting machine.
I sell my machine on Etsy (Etsy.com/shop/MightyKnittyMachines). Also in my own shop (thoughtsandknits.com/store/)
Subscribe to my channel to be the first one to preview new machines in my shop.
All the knowledge I gain from this work I then collect into my own Knitting Machine Encyclopedia:

So you can’t hold with this machine?
It needs to be attached to the table to knit. When not knitting, you can hold it: it is pretty light. Hope it helps.
Hi, Thanks for the video! Do you know if there is an intarsia carriage compatible with the KH800?
Not that I know of. They started making stand-alone interstate carriages later, for some bulky and standard punch cards machines.
please teach me everything!I see few videos with this super old machine
:) lol. Sure. Buy a lesson in my shop? Lmk if u need a link.
Or supposing I want to make a v-neck of a sweater.
The manual describes pretty well how to do the vneck. It is available for free online. hope it helps.
Okay, where is the partial button on that machine
It is not a button but a lever on the side of the carriage. Hope it helps.
What is the best yarn to use
sock yarn thickness. Or cone yarn for knitting machines. Sport yarn might be ok too but better on every other needle. Hope it helps!
Clockwise turning is the answer
Thanks!:)
How do you get the plastic so white?
So this machine was probably stored by its previous owner really wel: away from sun light. There is a method to whiten the yellowed (due to uv damage) plastic on these knitting machines but I do not use that method as I feel it makes the plastic parts more britle (and I was a chemist in my pre-knottinga Hines life). Hope it helps.
Hello Please can you teach how to activate punch cards on Brother 800… I have. Knitting machine and I still don’t understand how to use the punch cards

Yeh machine kitne ki h What's the cost ??
This particular machine is sold out. Check my store for other machines or request a machine you want. Hope it helps!
You'll want to look at the button release springs or the button stopper plate to fix the pattern buttons releasing like they have. It could be as simple as the internals need to be cleaned a little, mine had a lot of lint in it.
Thanks.
hello! i just purchased this same km a couple of months ago and am having some trouble. my carriage/sinker plate refuse to knit even 1 stitch. ive deep cleaned the carriage and replaced the sponge bar. my needles get stuck in the sinker plate. any advice? :)
Hard to say from just words. Maybe yarn too thick? Do drums move freely? Did you oli? I offer 1h consultations. You can purchase in my Etsy shop. Regardless, Good luck and let me know how it goes.
Hello, does it fit a kr 838? thank you!
I am not familiar with that model. Need to compare the manual closely. Carriage looks similar to kr830.
I checked the manual and looked at some pictures and it seems that these screws will fit KR830 and KR838. Hope it helps.
@@MightyKnittyMachines Thank you so much!!
Sure!
Welcome.
Thank you, from the bottom of my ancient Knitmaster 120! I lost the will, trying to find suitable draught excluder to fit the very narrow space in spongebar - like previous comment, found this easily on Amazon.
Wonderful, I am glad I could help!! :)
Thank you! What a lovely machine!
Glad you like it, Deb!! Almost yours :)
Does this machine use a sponge bar?
This machine definitely has a so-called "needle presser" bar. Check out my blog article (link in the description). It has a snippet from the instructions showing how to get it out. Hope it helps!
@@MightyKnittyMachinesThank you so much! ❤
Of course! That's what my blog and my videos are all about! Help other machine knitters.

Thank you! :)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It has all the details I needed to remove the cover and replace the side racks.
So glad it hellped!!! Thank you for writing to me about it!
Please share what book u been using. Thanks
Hello! The blog article (the link is in the description) lists all resources I used including links to manual. Please, look in my blog. I prefer not to post links in responses.
Why does the carriage get hard to push
During my tests, the carriage moved well. If you experience your carriage is hard to move, it might be due to 1) dirt in the carriage, 2) insufficient lube on the needlebed/carriage/needle-buds, 3) static (use wax), 4) high tension of the yarn. I summarized these and some other reasons in my blog: thoughtsandknits.com/2023/12/30/possible-reasons-of-problems-with-brother-knitting-machine-carriages/ Hope it helps!
But you didn’t refurbish the machine, you did a test run.
Video of a test run of a refurbished machine, correct.
I have a machine like this and I want to sell it
It's a good model for a ribber. Good luck selling it. Make sure a) the parts are there.
Thank you for being a great TH-cam content creator and for your knitting machine advice! Please keep the content coming!
Thank you! Will do! ...especially if lovely messages like these keep coming:)
It’s identical to kh 891 which in Italy was imported by Defendi and was called KM 3000. Thank you very much 🤗
Didnt know about KM3000. thank YOU! however, kh891 has garter carriage rails and none of kg881 i ve see so far do. so, yes, very similar bt not identical.
@@MightyKnittyMachines yes, it's true, but don't always find the Brother km 3000 together with the garter carriage, which in Italy is called Modamatic 3000. Thank you very much and sorry for my bad English. 😄
oh, i didnt even notice that you are not English speaker!! :))
@@MightyKnittyMachines thanks 😄
welcome and my pleasure!
does the KH551 use a sponge bar or a metal bar? If it uses a sponge bar, where do you buy them?
KH551 has a metal retaining bar that accomodates a sponge strip. the spongy strip needs to be replaced once in a while. i get my supplies on amazon. hope it helps.
@@MightyKnittyMachines yes, it does, thank you very much
sure! :)
Thank you for sharing this! I’m in the same situation with a few machines that were damaged in transport. Did you 3-D print this yourself? If not, where did you purchase and how does the quality compare to an original part?
i did both: print myself and outsourced printing. i am pretty happy with the quality, so were the customers who purchased this part from me. just choose the strong material when you print. thank you for your nice comment.
How to start putting cotton show me
do u mean how to cast on or to thread the yarn through the cariage and the tension mast? do you have the manual?
It would be better if you spoke in your videos and explained what you are doing, when one is reading the subtitles, it takes your eyes away from the video. 🙂

Can you knit circular socks on the brother kh840
with the help of ribber, yes! but some seaming is still needed for some patterns.
@@MightyKnittyMachines so just to clarify, if I buy a KH840 without a ribber, I can later get a ribber and attach it?
Yes you can!
I have this machine too with the sr 120 ribber but it doesn’t work very well, I think maybe it had a couple of falls. I’m trying to get it to function properly with not too much success. Any ideas?
nice setup you have! What exactly is not "working well"? does the carriage move freely on just needlebed?did u replace the sponge bar?
Thank you very much, that's exactly what I needed 🥰
Glad it was helpful!
Hi I’m always watching ur videos , thank u ! Btw, I wanna ask u some questions. I bought a vintage KH930 and I want to make knitting fabric with graphics from computer I made but someone told me 930 is not good for that because of its data limitations so now, I can’t assume how much big or complex pattern or graphics I can do by this machine with img2track so could u describe this with some examples? If u can! Always thank u so much
Congrats, this is a great machine! I created a large custom pattern and used DAK8 to transfer it to KH930. It took 3 times to load the whole pattern. I loaded the first section, knitted it, loaded the second (after erasing the first) and knitted it and then the third. I am not familiar (yet) with image2track but I am sure it is roughly the same approach. Look for my earlier videos on KH930 - one shows that complex pattern (a cat) that I knitted on my first KH930. Good luck!
@@MightyKnittyMachines oh sweet u helped me a lot I’m rly getting used to this machine with ur video thank u have a lovely day, 🩵

What can I charge for my KR-710 and KH-710 knitting machines please
Depends on where you are and in what condition the machines are. if fully serviced - then more.
Where you're stay
not sure what you mean.
Hey, this is great! I don't know anything about machine knitting or even knitting in general, but I found one of these machines at an antique store in nearly perfect condition for $10. It seemed kinda cool and a good deal, so I bought it and now I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks for helping keep this machine alive!
Wow, great find! Good luck! careful - these machines are addicting. LOL
After TLC the machine looks and knits beautifully.
Congrats!!
Success, at last! This is what the tech guys at work used to call an ID.10.T (idiot) error…I had the carriage on the machine incorrectly! Dork. Thanks for all your help, MKM!
So glad!!! Welcome although I didn't do much - it was all you . Good job!!
Sorry I’m not on FB. Right now it is without the yarn, just trying to get everything working. All levers seem to work freely. Sponge bar replaced. I have now found a section of needles, on the left from 30 to 50, where the carriage slides right to left most of the time (not always)…but NOT left to right.
sounds like some of the levers on the carriage are a bit stuck. move it over (so you are facing the undercarriage side) and move by hands all levers. Some might be sluggish. Then move the side levers and see if all springs work well. Also, look at your needlebed from the side. Is there any warping? (especially around that 30-50 area?) Hope it helps!
couple more things might be causing it: make sure all the needles are the correct ones.
...re needles: correct ones and not bent. and one last thing:) : oil the carriage and the bed according to the instruction.
I cleaned my kh551 according to your helpful article, removed, wiped and checked all the needles, replaced 2. I put Kroil oil on the carriage, wiped it out, it seemed pretty clean anyway. All the levers work the same as your other kh551 restoration videos, where you show how the buttons move the levers. The carriage glides across the needles easily in all positions EXCEPT “B”, for knitting. I’m stumped!
Great job cleaning your machine! when you say the carriage does not move well when needles in position B, is it with or without the yarn? all levers under the carriage move freely? sponge bar replaced? message me on facebook.
awesome video keep up the amazing work
Thanks, will do! Thanks for watching!
Please help! Just bought a machine which seems to be in great shape. Did some cleaning and lubrication, replaced the sponge bar…and I CANNOT get the carriage to slide across in position B (knitting). It pulls a few needles into position and just stops. Suggestions? I’m good at tinkering but all I know about this machine is what I have learned from the web. Thanks
Is the machine KH551? It is possible that some of the levers on the carriage are stuck. Flip the carriage and move them with your fingers. See if they move symmetrically. Give your carriage some Kroil oil spray. Also, watch if all levers move symmetrically. Also, check out my article on cleaning the machines; maybe some advice will be helpful (thoughtsandknits.com/2024/02/21/steps-i-take-when-cleaning-and-servicing-flat-bed-metal-knitting-machines/). Also, make sure the retaining bar is inserted correctly: with the spongy part on top of the needles.
Also forgot to ask: are you talking about moving just the carriage or carriage+sinker+yarn? If "+yarn" make sure the yarn thickness is appropriate.
Thank you! Yes, a kh551. All the levers seem to move freely. Sponge bar is inserted correctly. I have the sinker attached but not using any yarn yet (fingering weight, eventually). I’ll check out your article.. thanks again. @@MightyKnittyMachines
