Hi. Very interesting to see. When the vessel is berthing (maneuvering into port at around 3:30) it goes from sailing ahead to reversing into port - doesn't that cause all kinds of vibrations in the ship? A lot of swirl in the water it seems like.
Soo cool, took me a while to realize I could look around 😁
I’m trying to get something like this for my outdoors trips? Nice set up! can you stay warmer at night I am trying to stay out doors without tent n like 5f or 10f
Excellent Review !!
I claimed to work here soon in Gods perfect time
thanks brother i just bought 2 !!!! One 4 me and for 4 Gf !!
What model of MAN engine are the main engines?
Sorry can't remember the exact model number. But 8 cyl 80 bore. The first ones. Later that changed to 7 cyl 80. And on 2. Gen ships it is a bit longer stroke.
@@thehikingseafarer8527 Found it: MAN B&W 8S80ME Mk9
This thing is garbage.

You said small company that makes products in Utah. They are a marketing company located in Utah that imports mass produced gear from china.
I know polyester gets smelly when wet compared to nylon. Have you noticed any of that?
No I haven't noticed, but I also use a liner every time for the same reason
Thanks a lot. Very interesting
A thing I tried and it worked out really well. Use the foam pad. And use your sleeping bag zipped up as a two layer comforter type deal. Sleep on top of the sleeping bag in your cold weather clothes and wool socks. Or two foam pads a light weight wool blanket so you can get inside your sleeping bag and sleep in thermal pjs for comfort.

I ve just used this may fir camping . It was great . Highly recommend.
How is the durability of the hipbelts? I heard that it could tear!!!!
I haven't seen any thing that would indicate such issue. It is a delicate pack, due to the weight savings. But if you take good care of it, I think it will last a long time.
Thanks for the review. I've been meaning to get the Thermarest z-lite, but it seems they don't want to make them anymore. Everyone is out of stock, including the Thermarest website. So I'm trying to decide between the Nemo and the Exped. I'm amazed that these companies have a great product that people want, but they just stop making them, I wish I could take the products that companies abandon and just sell them.
At 05:49 you wrote something about Steam Turbine and Power Turbine. Is it just one Turbine driving a Generator (the most logical Thing to me) or two Turbines with one of them driving something else? On that Subject: The Marie Maersk is from the first Generation of Triple E Vessels; can they use the Shaft Generators as Motors too to save Fuel by keeping the Diesel Generators at full Load or is that System exclusive to the second Generation of Triple E Vessels? I considered both of these Subjects for my Marine Engineering Thesis, the first one in the Form of COGAS/COGES Plants and the second just for saving Fuel with Electricity in General, the Hybrid Ferries from Scandlines cought my Attention on that (essentially having replaced one of the Diesel Generators with a large Battery which get's charged in Port and discharged while accelerating and stopping, thus allowing to maintain an almost constant Load on the remaining Generators). But I dropped both of these Ideas in Favour of an LNG vs Methanol Fuel Comparison; IMHO does Methanol have the Advantages of LNG without the Drawbacks of being gaseous at Room Temperature.
Yes and no to the turbine, it has a 2 stage steam turbine with 8bar and 4bar pressure. But in addition to that, via a transmission a power turbine is connected, it runs of the exhaust gas via a bypass pipe from the exhaust receiver. It is also possible on the first generation to run the shaft generators as motors. Roughly 3MW supply/delivery. Sound very interesting. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with, though I'm not working with Maersk anymore, but still sailing. Enjoying my time at DFDS.
Both the turbines run on the same generator, and the steam turbine has to start up before the power turbine can kick in.
@@thehikingseafarer8527 So it has a similar Setup to the Emma Maersk Class with the Exhaust Gas driving a Turbine Generator. Both Emma Maersk and Triple E Class seem very intersting, which is one of the Reasons why I consider apllying to Maersk Line once I get my Engineer Certificate in 2022. Do you know if they hire Germans too? It's really hard today to find a Job in a foreign Company; many Scandinavian Companies (including DFDS) look very promising to me but I've heard that they usually employ their own People only. Starting as a 4th Engineer is another good Reason for me, what are the Duties of a 4th Engineer there?
I am not sure about the setup on the E class. But I think it is more or less the same. The best advice is to apply. Depending on if you have your 6 month of sailing or not, you will start as junior or 4th. I'm not that we'll acquainted with the hiring process, only that I applied myself and got the job at DFDS. We don't have 4th engineers at DFDS and the duties varies a lot, there is no specific area, you have to know how to handle and operate everything. Best of luck with your education.
Thank you👍🏻
Thank you👍🏻👍🏻
Very detailed review! Awesome 👏
So what is your opinion now, a year later?
The Nemo is my go to for the moment, but mostly because the thermarest is a bit more used and have been through its pace. Should I choose between the two today, the Nemo would be my choice. Hope it make sense 🙂
Thanks!
Whats your rank in the engine department?
I am 3.eng
Great review! Im thinking this might be the way to go for my kayak camping trips. The water resistant shell makes a lot of since. How low of temps have you had the quilt?
The lowest I have tried is -5°C/23°F But then I also used the sea to summit reactor extreme, and only slept in my base layer. Btw I slept on a thermarest neoair xtherm.
@@thehikingseafarer8527 Ok awesome! I went ahead and ordered one. I really wanted a UGQ quilt but didn't want to wait 11 weeks to get it lol. In the 20s is the lowest it gets around here so that should be perfect. Thanks for the feedback!
Why do they both have to be so short :(
Your feet don’t need a foam pad technically.
False
How many crews are on board?
We were at the time 23 crew
@@thehikingseafarer8527 This is a normal crew in the sea for such a big vessel?
@@seruk90 yes 22-26 depending on the rute or the age of the vessel.

It's been a year and half. Could you please give us an update? I just ordered trekology air pad which is not that high R value. In colder months i would like to add foam mattress for more warmth. I'm stuck between Z lite and Switchback. Could you please help me choose?
Hi simple. The difference is so minimal that I would say its about the price. The switch back is slightly more comfortable if you use it as a stand alone pad. But warmth wise I haven't noticed any difference between the two, when they are used as a buffer pad underneath an inflatable pad. Hope this helps
Great review, is yours the Stromloft version? It looks like the LoftTek is the newer design? I am going with the LoftTek™ Hybrid 0. Thanks for the video!
Yes it is the 0 stormloft down version
Hey, great video! I am planning on hiking the trail this summer but I'm getting confused regarding the outdoor shelters. Do you perhaps know if it's legal to put down your tent at those shelter places without cost? I got the information about those shelters on this website: www.naturturisme.dk/pdf-filer/%C3%98havskort/WEB_+%C3%BFhavskort_GB_2017.pdf Thank you in advance :D
Hi Simon Sorry for my late answer, Yes you are allowed to setup your own tent at those shelter spots. Just be aware the price is the same regardless. If you want to setup your tent for free you have to aske Lot owners or look at "fri teltning" naturstyrelsen.dk/naturoplevelser/overnatning/fri-teltning/ Hope it clears it a bit. Have a nice trip.
Felt like the straps were not so comfortable. I have my blue 65 small and thinking of selling it.
Very interesting thank you 🙏
I was considering ordering this quilt, but thought the price and weight for a 0 degree bag might be too good to be true. I appreciated your thorough review. Also, you seem like a genuine human and I enjoyed your manner. Keep up the great work!
👍✌️
Can this be used in the summer?
It depends on the temperatur you are camping at. If it is more then 15-20 degree C then I would recommend a cool bag. Because it is really varm top quilt.
just watched you on richard hammonds big.
Yes I was lucky to be onboard when they came onboard 👍
I don't figure well the reason to buy a Switchback, when you own a Zlite. Différences between both seems very unsignificant. Thanks for sharing anyway. I regret having bought so many mattresses of various brands (Exped, Nemo, GG , Arklight…) Obviously Therm-a--rest is the simple go-to choice.
You are right, but I bought this one to test it out and as an ekstra for my girlfriend when we go out together.
@@thehikingseafarer8527 I see we have the same kind of reasons to buy new gear. But as far as I'm concerned my GF has so many outdoor items that's a pity she hates camping so much. ;)
I think outdoor vitals is Walmart brand correct?
No it's not
No it is a separate company with very good products, check them out on Outdoorvitals.com
I have been looking at this quilt. Great value at the price. Nice channel. I checked out some of your videos. Subscribed. ✌️
Thank you. I'll try my best to continue, going forward
Did you get the 0F top quilt? I am looking to buy one for my upcoming trip to the Adirondacks.
Not yet. I am saving for one now. Crow✌️
AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING cool, I just ordered mine. I will post a video review when I get it.
Look forward to seeing that. ✌️
How was it for sleeping in cold weather? What is the coldest temperature youve used it while sleeping on a mat?
I have only tried it down to -2 degrees Celsius, and it was very nice and warm. But I have planned a trip this winter where I hope to try it out even lower. I use the thermarest neoair X lite as pad.
Dude ... ditch the music! It's great for the intro and outro. But sheezus ... I couldn't hear YOU. Really wanted to watch this, but ended up leaving.
Thank you for your advice Doug Greene, I totally understand what you mean now.
Hi, very nice videos. Keep it up.
