The Alaskan Smokehouse - Smoking Fish for Beginners
The Alaskan Smokehouse, or at least our beginner attempt at it. So much Salmon and wild game in Alaska we need to start thinking about preserving our harvests! Throughout the building the last few months we have been investing some of our Sundays into our Alaska smoker. The Woodmizer LT-40 sawmill has been adding to our wood scrap pile and we have everything we need to build a rustic solution.

A Rustic Alaskan Shop
มุมมอง 18211 หลายเดือนก่อน
Every Alaskan needs a shop space and we are finally getting around to having a shop of our own to continue working. All of our structural framing is spruce coming off the Woodmizer lt-40 sawmill. Our ceilings are 3/8" hemlock cladding, floors are true 2x spruce, and shop wall cladding is 1x cottonwood. It is so rewarding to go from tree to shop. We are so grateful that slowly we are getting com...

We also love what we do so each day's tasks are a joy and something we look forward to. Music Provided by Artlist license #364...

Alaska Road Building; Figuring out the grade and slope

Our Alaska road and construction pad build required a bigger machine. Ended up rented a D-7 bulldozer to get us the extra little umph we needed to get more work done on the pad and the road. 2023 Alaskan Life Work Recap
มุมมอง 236ปีที่แล้ว
Living in Alaska is a lot of work especially when you have a mountain of hurdles. In our Alaska life in 2023, we really squeezed everything out of ourselves building a Banya, Outdoor Kitchen, and laundry facility out on Raspberry Island. We came back home and knocked out Matt and Heather's place (Tieihacker Chalet). We also did some modifications to our shop. Then we had a cabin to build on Lat...

And the purpose of taking a Bear is what again?
Beautyful film. So different , real and intense.😊
This is beautiful 😍
Use to hunt Elk on Raspberry with dad back in the late 70s thru the 80s. This was long before there were any buildings of note on the island. Long before it became a hunting destination for tourists. Find memories of the Raz.
Got Kings off Kodiak dock $1 each. Old womens bay-memories. USN ETN 2 1967. I was in charge of all communication equipment at the runway Tower. The only one.
I've seen a 🐻 before ! I just Hello Bear can I walk away slowly backwards. No what ,that's what I did. Went in tree chair. Scariest Part of my life story. I got a rush unbelievable 2. Be safe dudes
10am Bostonian ??? When was these hunts, where ? When has been said, People can Bear hunt.❤. It's not exciting. Invading on these. Bears home. I feel bears know Humans sent?? Bears very smartly ;inured then 70,% ready 4 attack. Very intelligent that's not a hunt you get attacked it's over, pal😅
Very good hunt and filming and equipment used thanks
Nice hunt. Good gun and bear safety procedures as well.👍✌
Your U.S. flag is displayed incorrectly. Stars should be in the upper left corner as you face it.
who ever filmed this needs a lot of learning
This is to young bear to be shoot ?!?😟
love the Grandpa bit : )
Right!? If it sounds smart we figured he would have said it.
That’s probablythe best video of a Brown hear harvest I’ve seen. Well done and captured perfectly!
Oh my! Thank you for the kind words. Heather did a great job documenting it in a place outside of her comfort zone.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
Thank you for joining us in the harvest! 🙏
Smoking is such an art! And man does it smell amazing when we have that cooking! YUM!:)
We still have so much to learn. Every year will try to adjust things to get it to our liking.
hey guys. get the bark off the alder. think you will like flavor better this way, F/V 2 Cents
Awesome advice! We will totally try that on the next batch. Thanks for the suggestion!
Ohhh I love new tips! Excited to give it a whirl this season!:) Thank you!
Love smoked salmon!!
We do to!!! Our favorite way to eat salmon. 🤤
Beautiful out there in the fall!
It sure is!
I still think you could have ridden that moose, Alaskan surfing!
Next time… but there might not be any video evidence of it.
Congrats on the bear, guys!
Thank you Camden! We are glad we got to share the experience with you.
One of the most fun adventures ever, the only time I've ever had the opportunity to help build the building that I would perform a wedding in. Too much fun, what a privilege to get to officiate at both our kids weddings; God is truly great, He alone is to receive glory and honor.
Amen to that Pastor Mike!
Congratulations on this new chapter of life!
Thank you so much! This Alaskan adventure just got another layer. Looking forward to adding to the Alaskan experience together.
That was such a fun dinner with Jim and Rhonda!🥰🥰 And talk about those VIEWS!!!
That was so much fun! Our first dinner party!
Happy birthday Capt Jim!!
🙌🏻 we will pass it along.
Gotta Love Alaska !!!
We sure do! That is why it is home! ❤️
Love it!!
Thank you! Have you ever spent anytime around Kodiak?
Debt free sounds like a great plan!
We definitely try. Delayed gratification.
Oh no not the dogs!
All is well. We were able to get down in time and chase the bear away from the pups.
Quality over quantity! You guys rock it!
We give it our best shot every time. Our sleep is a bit more sound that way. Unless we really do bust our backs out, then the sleeping isn’t as good 😥
How awesome!
It was a whirlwind of activity! So many helping hands and so many hours went in to pulling it off. We were all running low on sleep for sure.
😍
We think so too!
Sounds like an excellent plan.
We are already reaping the benefits of it. Small fruits of our labors.
Nice work guys!
Thanks Harrai! We would love to host you! Check out what we are up to in Seward! (look at the winter section) ozlodge.com
@@adventuresofozco3466 We're currently hunkered down adjusting to life with a new baby, but I'd love to come see you guys sooner or later. Looks like a beautiful life you've built.
Congrats on fatherhood! What an amazing experience that is.
Slow and steady with no debt.
Amazing craftsmanship, Guys!
Thanks Neil! Can’t wait to make that high school reunion happen!
The countdown is on!
That cute little bear…Little stinker!!
We love having Alaska critters in our backyard!
You guys absolutely KILLED it on this cute little venue. Our wedding was such a special day and I love how our friends and family all jumped in to help make the dream happen. Thank you Tim and Matt for putting all of that time, effort and detail into this:)
Indeed very thankful for all the help!
That was such a blast!
Reminds me of that Johnny Cash song that goes something along the lines of "Cut me down".
All that wood makes it so Alaskan!
Rustic and harvested right from the property!
Looking great! Going to be an amazing wedding!
We can’t wait. Matt and Heather have been hoping and praying to find their soulmate. They found it in each other. 🙌🏻
Hey slow down on you pans! It took my brain a minute to process so that I could see the live edge base boards. Lol
Oh man I sometime forget there are wood lovers watching! Ok I will showcase the wood a bit better in the next ones! 🙏
Basically when you make your first cut on the Sawmil, you get a board that has bark on one side and grain on the other. Those we ended up using for our smokehouse walls. The second cut we do is about an inch thick, and it has live edge on both sides of the board. We usually snap a line down the centerline of that first cut. The first cut is typically around 8 inches wide. That way we get a piece of base that is, 4 inches inches wide on average.
I’m sorry we usually snap a line down. The centerline of the second cut is what I meant to say.
😂
Our thoughts exactly!
Congrats!!! This all sounds exciting and oh so stressful!
Oh my goodness. Weddings are a big deal and to have things fall through really puts some pressure on.
Love the sound of spring birds!
Yes we do too! Can’t wait to hear them again after this winter!
Epic!
That view sure is!
That view is amazing!
We think so too!
