I just had an epiphany 😂 I have lived two second chance romances IRL and it turned out poorly both times so that’s probably why I avoid this trope like the plague ☠️

I don't read much second chance romance because as you said, they're very hit or miss. I like Jackie Lau's A Second Chance Road Trip for Christmas, where it's former high school sweethearts reconnecting. Other than that and a Beverley Jenkins' historical romance, I think it's been years since I've read any.

Second chance romance there better be some groveling and a good reason for why they broke up in the first place. I don’t have a memorable second chance romance book that I’ve read unfortunately.

That kind of talk from a love interest in romances is usually a DNF for me, because nope, they aren't ready for a loving relationship, and it's unusual for a romance to be able to portray the growth that would need to happen for that character while also building a solid romance.

I think a novelette is actually shorter than a novella. That’s my understanding. It’s usually less than 30 pages I believe (ish).
