    This is great - Question, on the g-clef staff, where does the middle c show up? Is it the line below the staff, or on the third space, or the second line above the staff?

    • @learningthelyreharp
      @learningthelyreharp 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Middle C (C4) goes on the first line below the staff, the lines and spaces below this would represent notes that forms the octave below and would fall in the bass (F clef) in descending order B3 - C3. 16 string lyres only have 3 bass notes G3,A3,B3 so sometimes it’s easier to just have one staff and represent these notes as lines and spaces below middle C rather than having a grand staff

    Just a general note that I feel like might be overlooked: In terms of fingers used, you can (in theory) use all 5, but the thumb isn’t exactly able to get the sound of the plucking from the glide method, so the pinky finger is used instead (and it also helps because all 4 fingers will be easier going up, than having some fingers up and down) Hope it helps!

      @@ashleyurban5861I play diatonic and pentatonic lyres more because they are smaller and lighter, so easy to pack and take with me just about anywhere. They also tend to be a lot more beginner friendly. A good diatonic lyre can range from $300 and up. Whereas a starter chromatic lyre starts at about 1k (US $) For good diatonic lyres check out BrandonJohnLuthiery on Etsy, I purchased two lyres from him and am very happy with both. Music Makers has two lyres available, Lynda Lyre is on my wish list. Marini Harps also has great options and some come with levers so you can change keys quickly. My chromatic lyre is custom built by Anton Lyre from Europe. Hope this helps ❤

    I want a lyre that is cruelty-free, meaning no animal had to die for my instrument...it's wrong. So what lyre do you suggest for a non-musician who wants the lyre for prayer, meditation and healing?

    • @learningthelyreharp
      @learningthelyreharp หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most lyre harps are made with wood and metal components. I wouldn’t know any of the specifics and be able to confirm cruelty free as most of these are mass produced in China. If you would like to go on the safer side, I would suggest contacting a luthier that hand produces each lyre and can build exactly to your specifications. All lyres work for prayer, healing and meditation. If you want to play music strictly by improvisation and feel, pentatonic lyres are great. If you want to play melodically and follow music, 16 and more strings would be advisable.

    After my own trial and error, I took the method that I recalled Dusty Strings using with their harps. I bought D'Addario Pro Arte strings for classical guitars. EJ31 can cover most of a 19 string lyre. I subbed the last 2-4 with "lyre string sets" I found cheaper on Amazon. I'm asking Strings by Mail for suggestions on F5-C6, as I'm not too familiar with higher ptch strings. I come from harps, which use lonnngggg atrings, after all. 😅 But I love the sound of the D'Addario Pro Arte strings. It sounds beautiful on this kind of body. Or at least, mine has a round hole, darker stain. But these lyres are usually the same sourcing, different brand stamps. I at least suggest RT wrapped nylon if you still want a metal string sound. Less tinny, more depth.

      Are you able to let me know the brand of your lyre so I can look it up and check the string set up? Most lyres with string names shows the note letter name and Octave number for example G3 (note G in third octave) and G4 (G in 4th octave). In Jianpu, (eastern notation) the use numbers instead of letter names, dots are added at the top or bottom of the number to indicate octave from middle octave.

    You are so lovely, Sharon! I've been binge-watching your videos for the past few weeks now since I'm interested in learning how to play the lyre harp. Your channel is teaching me so much, and it confirmed (and deepened) my interest in the instrument. I'll definitely get it soon! 😊 Thank you so much for all your hard work!

      This lyre is tuned to the key of C, but you can adjust it to fit another key if needed

    The music of nature is awesome a little soothing instrument for some harmony instead of the other way around. Lovely

      Thank you Connie. I’m lucky to have a little park close to where I live. I like this video because it’s symbolic to me of just keeping on regardless of what is happening around.
