    This is a really good video on how to prepare for your own custom seat pan on any bike. I found your video as I'm looking to do something similar on a 78 BMW r100 I just picked up actually the last 3 days I've watched tons of videos for doing several different customized parts and I have to say your video is very informative and concise and has good advice on the products you'll need. It was short and to the point. Thank you I really appreciate your effort in posting this.

    Hi Mike! I’m rebuilding a 77 gs550 of my own, and I am currently stuck on trying to decide what kind of sealant to use for closing up the crank case, the clymer manual recommends a “non-hardening, non-silicone sealant” but I can’t seem to find anything like this still being made. I’ve looked into some yamabond 4 and 5 however, 4 is silicone based and 5 seems to be hardening, I don’t want to cement the thing shut, but I don’t want it to fail either, I’m thinking of going with yamabond 4 regardless of the silicone base. Any advice or recommendations of what you used for this? Thanks!

    • @MikeMitchum
      @MikeMitchum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't split the cases on mine, but I'd use the 4. Check out this explanation though. th-cam.com/video/pr8JwEm1olw/w-d-xo.html

    • @MikeMitchum

      If I'm reading it right, you want to use the hash mark just before the F. Get a test light if you don't already have one. They're super cheap and extremely helpful and getting things set up spot on.

      The exhaust wrap has held up surprisingly well! There's definitely a heat affected zone where it meets the mid pipe - which is surprising since the static test showed that to be cooler than other areas somehow. Other than that it's just fine.

    For anyone wanting to take out the valve shims on these, it can be easier to lever the tappet downward with a large, flat blade screwdriver, then insert the tool to hold it down while you change the shim (it's quite easy to make your own holding down tool from a piece of 1/4" gauge flat bar if you don't have the special tool)
