I am working on building my own winch. I got a honda GX270 motor at an auction for $75 CAD and have cleaned it up and got it running with a new carb from Amazon. I purchased a torque converter from Amazon for $115 CAD and have a reducer I got at an auction for around $35 so now all I have to do is build a frame and build or buy a winch spool. I have an old one that I could use but it is probably too small for this application- only 1/4 inch cable. I think I will add a receiver hitch to it as well so it can be attached to the trailer hitch on my truck.

Impressive! Do you notice the planetary gearbox of the winch gets hot after prolonged pulling? I'd like to know, because most of the commercial chainsaw winches and independently powered portable capstan winches have a large oil filled transmission case.

I recently got one of those ones but super rusty but I hate where the steering rod is because how close it is to the gas and brake pedal

NOT A CHAINSAW! Just spent $5.00 for video that will not produce a "CHAINSAW" winch. Feel kinda cheated.

While log is on trailer slide some smaller branches under it as rollers. Get it off trailer and use a cant hook and just roll that log.

What am I missing here. How are the planetary gears being driven on the winch by the engine going direct to the winch shaft? I really need to make one of these. I’d love to know more about the details of this build if you’d be so kind. Thanks for posting.
