Tony's fantastic. One of the best guitarists of all time just like the Hollies were the Best band to come out of the British Invasion. Far better than the Beatles as far as I'm concerned and so under rated. Allan Clarke had the best voice of that era and its just not the Hollies without him. The singing just isn't up to par. Not even close. Very disappointing.

I think that being the lead, and brilliant, guitarist and singing the lead at the same time would be too taxing even for Tony Hicks.

For me Allan Clarke is what Roger Hodgson is for Supertramp, for example: absolutely irreplaceable as the band's voice! The Hollies had to see this as early as 1971, when Allan got out of the car for the first time, the fans did not accept his successor Mikael Rickfors and only became friendly again when Allan returned in 1973. Apart from the Rickfors phase, the Hollies created a large abundance of alltime classics from 1965 to 1977 alone, as the line-up changes with Bernie Calvert for Eric Haydock (R.I.P.) and Terry Sylvester for Graham Nash didn't bother anyone. This line-up, which we see here with Peter Howarth, has nothing at all to do with the original glory of long past Hollies years, and honestly: it would make a lot more sense to end the chapter "Hollies" for good to hold on to something that can never return because simply the time is over.

One week later "Here I Go Again" entered the Top 50 Singles chart at position #46, four weeks later it would peak at #4 {for 1 week} and it spent twelve weeks on the Top 50... Between 1963 and 1993 the Salford, England quintet had thirty-three records on the U.K. Singles chart, eighteen made the Top 10 with two* reaching #1, "I'm Alive" for three non-consecutive weeks in 1965 and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" for two weeks in 1988... Original bassist Eric Haydock, born Eric John Haddock, passed away at the age of 75 on January 5th, 2019... May he R.I.P. * The group just missed having three more #1 records when their "I Can't Let Go" {1966}, "Stop Stop Stop" {1966}, and "The Air That I Breathe" {1974} all peaked at #2 on the U.K. Singles chart...
