Hi everyone. Susie here from Minnesota, zone 4b. So much to do in my gardens right now and I just wanted to show you how imperfect gardening can be. Hi everyone. Susie here from Minnesota, zone 4b. I had taken a little break from managing my gardens for a bit. Not on purpose, Mother Nature had a hand in that. Rain, rain and more rain. I have been working on a lot of clean up, but also enjoying what is looking great. My resilience and my gardens resilience has been amazing. Hope you enjoy! #gardentour #gardening #garden
I am ready to GIVE UP
มุมมอง 2.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi everyone. Susie here from Minnesota, zone 4b. I am getting close to walking away from my garden for a bit. All I have done since Memorial Day is deal with chaos in the garden. The flooding has finally gotten to me. I am tired of hauling my pumps and hoses around. This is no longer fun and I am just not feeling the love for gardening this year. We got 4 inches of rain since 12:00pm yesterday ...

Hi everyone. Susie here from Minnesota, zone 4b. I had a hail storm on Memorial Day that lasted 10 minutes and I had a lot of damage. I am trying to stay positive in this tour, but between the hail damage and the mosquitoes, it has been really tough to be in my gardens. On that note, I am loving the rain and the temps have been beautiful. Hope you enjoy and happy gardening. #floralnhardy #garde...

Hi everyone. Susie here from Minnesota zone 4b. It is May 5th and the weather today is absolutely perfect for a tour. Lots of noises in this video along with some backtracking due to neighbors being out. At the end of my video, I called the first group of Jacob's ladder, or Polemonium, Pulmonaria and also later in the video Brunnera-the one with the blue flowers that look like forget me nots, a...

Absolutely beautiful!
Another beautiful video!
Our lilacs are looking the same way, and apparently it is common this year because of all of the rain. Every source I've heard talk about it says not to worry about it - they'll be fine. I hope they're right.
You've talked in the past about dressing with compost and mulching. I was wondering if you hoe at all spring the season.
A lot of holes in your hostas
That is awesome you had the patience to start lisianthus! I might get seeds and try to tackle them this year. Red Wing, MN
Once they germinate, they are pretty easy. They grow so slow and stayed in a plug tray the whole time. They are the prettiest ones I have grown so far. Thanks for watching and always great to hear from a Minnesotan.
I love your garden, I am also in MN zone 4b... Thank You for sharing with us!
Thanks for watching
Absolutely beautiful as always! Your garden tours are always a treat! I wish my Hydrengeas would turn that vivid pink raspberry color like they do in your zone! Had to clean out some of my lambs ear too it rained hard back to back and Lambs Ear does not like to be wet at all. You should be proud of yourself. I wish i could grow stuff from seed a successfully as you do! take care
Thanks for watching and your awesome comment
Your garden looks gorgeous…🥹even with all the.. things that happened this year for you weather wise😊so happy for you and as always love your videos thanks
Thanks so much
Its amazing how well your garden has recovered from all the flooding! It was looking pretty devastating...so glad it came back for you!!
Thanks for watching
I always like how you talk on your videos your voice is very subtle….thank you for sharing
😊 Thank you for watching
Those lisianthus are gorgeous! Bonny
I can't believe how big some of them are. I am very happy with the varieties I chose this year. Thanks for watching
Your garden looks so healthy and lush. I'm your neighbor in Iowa. We get the same weather you get. I have begonias like the one in the pot at your front door. Mine is a peachy cream color. It was dying in a whiskey barrel in the yard so brought it onto the porch and it's made a fantastic come back. Begonias of any type are great if you have shade or dappled shade and for a porch. I bought a few more heuchera mid Summer on sale. Too hot for me to be outside planting so will soon when it cools a bit. I have a lot of hosta of just one type that came from 3 free plants at my last abode that I brought with me here. They are great fillers for the garden but not my favorite plant. So I plan to gradually replace them with brunnera. This was my 1st visit to your channel. It's been an enjoyable visit.
Thanks so much for watching
Man your yard looks beautiful! To think there was a time not long ago you were thinking of throwing in the towel!! I’m still shaking my head at your beautiful HUGE Sun Kings!! How many hours of sun do they get? I’m going to move mine to a more sunnier location, they barely grew 6” this year.. grrr… Also, how much sun does your Lungwort in the same area as the Dianthus you cut back get and Brunnera near your Sumac? After seeing yours I’m thinking I should be putting some of my shade plants in more sun 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for the great video, I always get so envious. Brenda🇨🇦
All of those plants get at least 6 to 8 hours of sun. I wouldn't recommend that amount of sun for any of those plants. All the rain this year along with a mild winter made everything overly happy this year. I would say 4 to 6 hours of morning sun would be perfect. My Sun Kings last year were scorching with the afternoon sun. Thanks for watching
Real pretty
Thanks for watching
.looking very pretty we've been very dry in NE Ohio this summer❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching
So glad to see you this morning. Yes morning sun..❤ we take our dog for a walk every morning by the lake..it is so refreshing and healing. I did begonias this year too. They look great! I think I will try some compost in my front next year. Thanks for talking about it! Happy gardening Susie!
Composting is a lot of work, but worth it in the end. The begonias have been a favorite this year. There is a lake in my town and I too take my dogs for a walk there. Thanks for watching
We LOVE the long tours!!!
Thanks for watching
That container in your garden is gorgeous Susie. Bonny
That one really turned out great and I may repeat that again for next year. Thanks for watching
Lovely. I'm a Minnesota gardener too.
Thanks for watching
Creeping Jenny even is in my grass everywhere in my yard.
I also have it in my grass. Thanks for watching
Yes gardening is a wonderful place I can lose myself in which is exactly what I need with a retired husband who is not handy or has no hobbies. (He does work about 15 hours a week at a car auction though…that’s 15 hours that I look forward to. lol)
Beautiful garden; so much work eh? Love your begonias!
Thanks for watching
I love the color of those lillies out front next to the bo bo hydrangeas!
I am loving the Bobos this year and those daylilies. I didn't realize they would smell nice also. That was a bonus. Thanks for watching
i love your tours :) I feel you with the heat this last week! ugh....I also get terrible migraines from heat and humidity so this time of year is challenging for me with gardening. I went out this morning for a few and picked some weeds after the rain last night and that was satisfying. I have my eye out on a fire pit like yours on Marketplace. $20 a good deal probably...just haven't pulled the trigger to go pick it up yet. I also love that little bench with the tree stump bench. How cute! we also had so much flooding. I can't even plant anything in our backyard because every few years a huge chunk of our back yard floods. I am talking 5-6 feet of water as we are by a river. Such a waste of planting space! lol.
I think $20 is a great deal. I am used to my gardens flooding at least once or twice in a season, but nothing like this year. I try to look for plants that can handle a lot of moisture due to this issue, but I am a little leery to plant new plants this year. Thanks for watching
You amaze me how you remember your plants names! I have trouble with that. Hopefully the heat/humidity is over. Its been brutal. Happy gardening Susie!
Can't wait for it to cool down, but I do feel this heat helped with my vegetables. Happy gardening to you too and thanks for watching.
Great tour, I’ve got to move my Sun Kings to get more sun and try to catch up to the height of yours!! Are you able to move your sun scorched Hostas from the side of the house? Looks like you are fighting for room for them anywhere else 🤷🏻♀️, they are so beautiful!! Take care Brenda🇨🇦
You are right. I don't have room for them anywhere else and not sure if I am ready to extend or make a new garden bed quite yet. I am hoping to save up enough money to put a small deck on that side and to go around to the east side of the house. That will be a bit though. My Sun Kings even impressed me this year and I have never seen them this tall. They definitely appreciated the rain. Thanks for watching
You are so right about creeping Jenny. I have it in 2 beds, one is fine, it’s a small bed with a water fountain & a few perennials. It’s totally covered in it. The 2nd bed I have is much larger & I’m concerned over my coneflowers & phlox being choked out so every week I hand pull buckets of creeping Jenny to keep it under control. I also have clematis, a hardy hibiscus & rose of Sharon but they should be fine. And I don’t care what anybody says about it depressing weeds, it does not. Weeds grow in creeping Jenny even when it’s completely covering the ground & it’s thick! It’s nearly impossible to eradicate. I too do everything myself & I have a husband but he has never been handy & has always had back trouble. He used to mow but after he had shoulder surgery, that was the end of that. So I now hire someone to mow & trim. (We are in our early 70’s). Our property is difficult to mow . It’s a hilly acre with a privacy fence & an inground pool so there is alot to trim around. I paint, pressure wash, trim the shrubs, maintain the pool, landscape, lay pavers, lay pebble rock, cook & clean. All 3 of our kids live out of state so we are on our own. Last year I decided to plant more flowering shrubs & less annuals to make things easier & Im pretty done with any hardscaping so I was actually able to really enjoy gardening this year. Watering became an everyday thing when we didn’t get rain for 5 weeks. It was crazy. We have to keep going so we do & gardening is such a joy but I would like it better if we had a smaller yard! lol Take care😊 your GA gardening friend
Creeping Jenny is a thug. It had taken over the garden where I have the Incrediball Hydrangea. I pulled so much out by hand, that I finally laid layers and layers of cardboard and mulch down. It smothered out most my perennials there, so that is why it is mainly shrubs. I do think I need my gardens more than they need me. I lose myself in my gardens and I don't have to think. It is very nice to get away from reality some times. Your property sounds lovely. Thanks for watching
I always enjoy your tours! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
A black lace elderberry would look great where the sumac is at. The sumac is going to sucker a lot.
I have the sumac planted in a huge container to help with the suckering. Black Lace Elderberries don't do the best for me. I have one Black Lace Elderberry and it looks great this year because of the mild winter, otherwise half of it usually dies every year. Thanks for watching
Very lovely!
Thanks for watching
Heads up on that Sumac....you'll get runners/spreaders!!!!!
I do know that. I have said in most of my tours how it runs and also that I have it planted in a huge pot in the ground to help with that. Thanks for watching
Do you keep your pots with a hosta out in the winter
No. I will have to plant them in the ground somewhere. I have tried before and they have rotted. Thanks for watching
I'd be leary about that sumac because they are known to run everywhere. Thanks for the tour Susie. Bonny
I do know that. I have said in most of my tours that it runs and I also have it in a huge container in the ground. I did forget to mention that in this video. Thanks for watching
@@floralnhardy7332 Good to know.
I’m in zone 8b, middle GA & when you said it was 84 but felt like 94 I about choked! lol It was 94 here but felt like 104, lots of rain & the humidity is at 73%. I detest August because things here start looking weary. I’ve got some Shasta daisies I bought on the clearance rack to plant but they’ll probably go in partial shade this time of year. Come on Fall. Your garden looks beautiful ❤
Thanks for watching
Dear Suzie - What a beautiful garden. I’m 73 and a first time Gardner. Now that I’ve retired I am trying my hand at it. I would love to know the varieties, if it’s not too much trouble. Thank you.
I love shade gardens. Such beautiful textures. Curious if anyone caught what dogwood variety was talked about maybe around 4-5 mins in
That is an Ivory Halo Dogwood. Thanks for watching
I bought assorted Phlox from a catalog year before last, its started blooming this year, its beautiful there is white and a colour between purple and pink, i would have preferred the pink like yours, but am still enjoying them, and it wasn't too expensive, but they came as roots just have to baby them
They smell really nice too. Thanks for watching
I've drawn so much inspiration from you and your garden throughout the years, and although I don't comment on every video, I do watch and really appreciate that you share these videos! Your garden looks SO pretty. :)
Wow, thank you! That means a lot to me. Thanks for watching
I know what you mean about August not being your favorite look in the garden, as I feel the same. BUT things are still looking great there, and I'm jealous of your shade garden 😅
Thanks for watching and your kind comment.
OMGoodness - how beautiful! I always love your garden tours, I think I'm going to "need" white gomphrena next year!
The white Gomphrena took a bit to get growing, but they bush out nicely. The rabbits do like them. Thanks for watching
Beautiful gardens!❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for visiting
I am in zone 4b northern Ontario we are having the same weather so I appreciate everything you are saying. My garden is looking the same.I planted an elder instead of a Japanese maple I hear your pain ha ha.
It is so nice to hear from a zone 4b gardener. Thanks for watching.
Loved seeing your garden. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Thanks for watching
It's been a tough year for gardening. I'm in WI zone 4. Had all the rain in May and June and everything grew tall. July was too hot to work outside as we live in sandy soil. We had the wind and rain yesterday and my geraniums and phlox took a hit. I hate to say it this early but fall can come any time.
I am looking forward to fall too. I have never said that before, but June was a tough month and I am tired of battling the mosquitoes. Thanks for watching
Lovely garden. 😊
Thanks for visiting
Beautiful garden, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
My brunnera self seeded too!❤ I love it when that happens. The rabbits ate all my different types of hostas this year. It's been a rough one! Happy gardening Susie!
I have a lot of Brunnera that self seeded. I see baby Brunnera all over. So excited about that. I wish my neighbor would stop throwing out food scraps. Too many critters. Thanks for watching
I'm so sorry. I understand your frustration.
Thanks for watching
Lovely gardens!
