Bob and I were just talking about the light and our sleep habits. We've been walking around with little nightlights on at night😂 I think we're sleeping better. Goodness, Sonia, don't go into the attic without a good light and a hepa mask. Bats carry rabies & also parasites in their guano. 😮 Amazing they can slip through that little crack. I hope they are keeping the mosquitos at bay. (But really, set up bat houses, and try to get them moved out of your attic, for health and safety reasons.) I like bats! ❤

Sonia, I love your channel and how you approach issues. So much wisdom. ❤ My experience of Wicca was too similar to my Catholic experience. I also lean heavily towards atheism so the rules and morality codes rub me wrong. I still found positives in my learning and exposure to Wicca. I’m a firm believer that it’s important to explore many traditions.

The only thing I can comment is from my own experience, so not scientific in any way. When one is hungry - I mean hungry as in they don't know where the next meal is coming from (true hunger), there isn't much learning or spiritual working being done. An empty stomach is painful, and it's hard to think. Also, if one has no where safe to lay their head, the same. So yes, I believe Maslow's theory is correct as far as BASIC needs.

I think about death a lot as I have gotten older, because I am closer to it. I try really hard to live my life to it's fullest. The pendent is a sweet reminder to do that.

I think that Maslow's hierarchy is not as important as we think. It feels classist or old fashioned in some ways. Sexual reproduction is not a biological needed to be put so low on the pyramid, but it can be a social need. Not everyone has access to consistent food security but they will have community at church or whatever. They rationalize their lack of food under the lens of God's will or a struggle. They find spiritual fulfilment within the confines of their environment.

I love this kind of video. I love this topic so much. I'm not sure what I think about this. I do think perhaps to grow as a person we need to have our early years needs being met, but I also think the more spiritual we become if some of those needs are no longer being met, it could actually make us more self aware and spiritual, if you know what I mean. I don't think there is ever one simple answer for these types of topics because we have so many different people and personalities and cultures and environments in our world. Great topic and video. This is an excellent conversation in my opinion. I have heard his name in passing from my daughter who is a psychology major but I've not done any studies myself. I'm definitely gonna ask her what she thinks though l o l. I am a child care giver so I have had classes on child psychology. In conscious discipline we learn that if the child is threatened or feels unsafe, it is hard to teach that particular child. They are usually in a state of fight or flight. And it can be the same for adults with severe unhealed childhood trauma. So, in that aspect, I agree that those basic needs may need to be met, depending upon our perception of what makes us feel safe, before we become progressive in our spirituality. I have never heard of this. How interesting. I do think basic needs need met in order to have enough safety to pursue more in life. If someone is constantly not having basic needs met they can't focus on "higher needs" I don't mean they can't seek out spiritual growth, but it will be a great deal harder to accomplish and will come at a much slower rate. I'm currently reading "the power of now" by Eckhart Tolle Thank you for sharing this.
