I was there when this was recorded - that's me in the red cap sitting next to Patrick. Like all the other members of the Prisoner Appreciation Society who were sat around, I was in a state of shock that he had even turned up, given that he rarely gave interviews, and had only said he MIGHT attend. I'd dreamed of meeting him when I was younger and really got into The Prisoner during its second run on British TV. That then became an impossible dream after I had tried to write to him and only got a reply from his secretary and a photo. So it was surreal for me to finally find myself sitting just a couple of feet away from him. Also so near yet so far; because even though I was close enough to speak to him I had no idea what on earth I could say to him. I did spontaneously get his attention when he made a remark, in between takes, about the fact that they had thousands of the inflatable weather balloons that created the infamous white bubble in the series. Knowing how fragile these props are in reality, having witnessed a BBC promo shoot for an artist called Philip Jap, just a week previously, I commented that they all burst, and he turned and nodded emphatically. I also got to go up to him afterwards and shake his hand and express my heartfelt gratitude for creating something that had impacted me and inspired me. It remains a memorable moment in my life when one of my dreams did come true!
