Custom 1977 IH Scout with LS3
This is the winner of the 2014 Great American IH build Off, a 1977 Scout II. We built this for a customer, who wanted a stock appearing Scout...until the door or hood was opened! We're pretty happy with the results, and proud to have won the build off with it!

LS Scout engine mounts
มุมมอง 20K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This is part two of a video to introduce a Scout II specific LS engine mount set. These should be ready to ship by March 2014. In the video, on one side of the Scout, we go from stock mount to LS mount, start to finish, in well under 10 minutes! With our positioning jigs, if you have your stock engine already pulled, you can easily go from that to your LS hanging in the engine bay in a half hou...

1979 Scout II, 345, automatic. We had this one to the bare chassis, powdercoated or painted all of it, replaced floors and quarter panels, carpet, tires, wiring harness, etc, etc, etc. This is the absolute tightest Scout I have ever driven! The owner brought it to us last September, and it's ready to roll now. Its a fairly local guy, and we can't wait to see him using it as daily transportation...

This was Scoutco's first major project. It was a 1977 Scout II that come to us in pieces. We swapped in a 5.3 Vortec and a 4L65E transmission, and updated a LOT of stuff. This truck debuted at the Scout show in Carlisle in 2012, where it took 1st in it's class, best paint, best interior, and best in show! It followed that up with best paint, best in class, and grand national champion at the 201...

This is a '79 Scout II that belongs to a local gentleman, who uses it as his daily driver. He goes all over the place with it, from the grocery store to an annual trout fishing trip in Montana! We have rebuilt it from the ground up for him, and are nearing completion. He plans to take it to the Carlisle All Truck Nationals show, as well as the IH Scout and Light Truck Nationals this year.

    Great build. I once owned a used IH 304 V8 Scout and also owned a then new LS3 powered C6 Corvette much later in life. The difference in performance between the old IH engine and a tweaked LS3 must be astonishing. I'll bet your fuel economy is better, too!

    so your seals for your door go all the way around the door and the bottom and the top of the topper.. does that mean that you cant take the topper off since you have a one piece seal??? what about your exterior mirrors..Where did u get them from ?? I'm trying to restore my 1977 IH and I'm having a hard time trying to find them to get back to original condition.. Thanks Chuck

    • @ScoutcoLLC
      @ScoutcoLLC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chuck, just now seeing this. Sorry! The mirrors are Ford Bronco mirrors...but they are the same as the later model Scout II used. THe mounting stems are a bit shorter, but otherwise the y are identical. The door seals were one piece from IH, too...the owners would have to cut them to remove the top.

  • @spoolinwagon5350
    @spoolinwagon5350 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, the real kit provides a jig for the drivers side only. It didnt sit well on the frame, and had the mount pointed towards the passenger side. More than 10 minutes of grinding was required to just fit one side!! Then you have to bolt the mounts to the engine and hang it from a cherry picker and set up the passenger side. Not horrible, but sure as hell no "under 10 minute job" For the record this is being done by a professional shop, by experienced techs, not some backyard dipshits.

    • @ScoutcoLLC
      @ScoutcoLLC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Spoolinwagon Sorry to hear you had trouble. So far, we have had two folks have problems (since we went to the single jig kit described in a second...), with dozens of sets sold. As explained in the instructions we send with the kit, we did change them to work with a single jig, using the engine to make sure the distance between the two sides is correct. Reason for this is simple: The IH frame tolerances are so far off, we had trouble with the two jig setup. We have measured the distances between framerails on several Scouts, and find over 1/4" of variation! That makes a lot of difference, lol! So with the one jig positioning the engine, and the engine itself making the second side fall in the correct place, we have had you and one other person with an issue. We found that USPS has somehow made 1/4" thick steel bend in shipping, on our jigs. I thought we made them bombproof...but evidently not USPS proof!
