Band leader/ saxophonist, Andy Farber pulled together this all-star sextet comprised of Pete Malinvierni on piano, Bruce Harris on Trumpet, Jay Brandford on alto sax, Alvester Garnett on drums and Jennifer Vincent on bass. Smalls downtown is a great venue, but there is no connection that I am aware of.
Actual date or at least year of performance?
They also lied and they didn't use any planes I think 2 years later they found out it was the white farmers planes
Not a once of crime smh among eachother
I think I'd rather segregation
Wow! Pretty standard bebop language until 3:21; then he unleashes something outta this world to end it.
If Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, John Lewis, Rep. Cori Bush and many others could only see some of us today. Some have become part of this mass psychosis and joined this lgbt. Some of the women became men, and some of the men became women. We (black race) own less than one percent of the wealth in this country, yet when some gets famous and rich to feel accepted married outside our race. We have come a long way and have a long way to go.
Love this. My ancestors are from St Kitts.
Is that so. What are your family names?

Cool😍
Hey, did this documentary ever get released? If so, where can I find it?
We hit a stall, but should resume production this summer. Thanks for your interest.
👏👏
Donaldson killing as usual... what year is this from?
My 28-year-old looks to be about 3, so it must be around 1998.
I'm from Oklahoma city , OK and my birthday is 5/31 😢
This is so beautiful. I sang with Doris all through the 90's with the Great Day chorale. We had our special times as well when we made our annual trek to the terminal market to get poinsettias for the residents at Concord Nursing Home for Christmas. I'll never forget when she told me that she would never forget the look on my face when I first saw how the shops at the market were transformed into winter wonderlands. I never knew! and it became a tradition us and for my family. Those days are so precious to me.
Thank you for the lovely comment. She adored Mrs. Pointer and the entire group. I have a couple of links of Great Day to share with you.

Uplifting, Mesmerizing, Moving, Groove! Seeing the audience tapping their feet and nodding along adds to the enjoyment. If I could ask for more, I'd love to soak in the entire two-hour show!
Glad that you enjoyed it. We are fortunate that they live nearby and were able to make the date. Such extraordinary talents!
Sonny influenced far beyond jazz, a good example is the almost cult level of the "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" soundtrack; there's also a strong influence on heavier/free rock genres (thanks to the work on Last Exit; music like John Zorn's, Mr Bungle, wouldn't be the same !))
James Cammack - bass, Michael Weiss - piano, Aaron Seeber - drums, Ned Otter - tenor
It was wonderful to be a part of this concert with Bill Crow, Leonieke Scheuble, Jon Sneider and Andy Farber. What a pleasant surprise to see that it’s up on TH-cam to enjoy again.
What an extraordinary group ….your daughter is the talk of our town!
Wow, that's very kind of you to say! Thank you! @@RiverLiverLife
Always great to see you in action even if it’s just virtually.
Sonny was (is) a huge influence on my playing. The "Guitar" album is such a classic.
I first heard Sonny on Herbie Mann’s Memphis Underground along side Larry Coryell and a guy playing mainly r them on a Tele.. big influence!
What
boring
Sonny Sharock rocked! And jazzed, and blused and souled.
Thank you for sharing. My great grandmother was Mary Sergeant from Barbados. She went to Nevis and had to children for Charles Huggins. This is the closest we have ever gotten to know why she left Barbados for Nevis. My grandmother Fredericka was born in 1894 and her brother in 1885ish. Carry on with the good work 🙏🏽
Mary Sargent was Cecily Tyson's Grandmother. Is it my imagination or do you favor Cecily?
I have been told, and mind you this is heresay, that a lot of Sargeants left Barbados to the island of Nevis after a hurricane created opportunities for tradesmen to rebuild. Were your Bajan ancestors from St Philip?
@@RiverLiverLife Yes, Cicely’s grandmother was Mary Sargeant. Yes, I’ve been told we favor.
@@RiverLiverLife We weren’t told anything so thanks for the lead. We were always wondering why our great grandmother travelled to Nevis. We wanted to know why she left Barbados.
@@LetitiaGottashe likewise I was told nothing.I wonder if you are a dna match. I have a database of Bajan ancestral Sarges that might be helpful to you if you give me your email.Did any of your folks move to the U.S?
Nice. I wish the attendance was better.
People don't yet understand the cultural importance of this African American.....actually Afro-Dutch "Pentacostal" observation that has roots in the 1600s.
@@RiverLiverLife They need to tap into the local Surinamese community in New York. Surinamese have a contemporary AfroIndianDutch culture that probably is the closest living tradition to Pinkster. They should also reach out to the Ramapo Mountain communities, which contain descendants who isolated themselves when they realized they would not fit into the British trinary racial and chattel slave systems. Adding these groups would make the celebration more authentic, and connect it to the present.

Happy birthday Lollie! She’s awesome!
Happy Birthday. Wonderful.
I was born in Harlem Hospital in 1946. Wow how great is that and how great for her
Does anyone have access to the VH-1 "New Visions" show I saw back in the late 80's with Bill Cosby? That was fantastic and my first encounter with Sonny.

And an Eames Chair in the background to boot.. this is my kind of living room!
It's a fake Eames chair, but a genuine Eames walnut stool.
I play like sonny. But I must confess I’m new to his work. It’s just a happy coincidence. He makes me feel less alone. He’s truly amazing and inspiring.
Good to see you again Vinnie do it baby
love it!!
The more they stretch his face skin back, the bigger his nose becomes.

I miss my grandmother
She was amazing. My mother was so enamored with her, musically and as a human being, that she would walk across hot coals if she asked her to. Noel was no slouch, too! Your note is very timely, as I just came across a trove of cassette recordings of Great Day Chorale. If you haven't already seen it, check this out. th-cam.com/video/0YMoVZ3z8Uk/w-d-xo.html
