5 compelling reasons to buy a Clayton Power LPS 3000 instead of the standard Victron setup. ⚡️🚐👀
Where can I buy the cap for the fuel filter from please? Didn’t realise it would be this easy to go off the tank just unsure where to get it from Thanks
Great video mate, can you give me a spec for the cable to from van fuse box to the super charger to wake it up? and where can i get my hands on one of those larger schematics you showed on screen?
would it be possible to run a electric water heater top off it?
A hot water heater tap you mean. You can but you could for example leave your engine running so you preserve more battery. or run the engine for 30 mins afterwards instead.
You showed how much percentage you used but I can't anywhere how big your battery is. A percentage of a 100AH battery is less than a 400AH system but the 400 uses more electricity. Total power usage would be better.
Good point Ian. Its 160ah (1920 kWh) on this unit as its the LPS 3000 model.
Beautiful dogs
Awww thanks Christina.
Good simple explanation of how to connect, thanks really helpfull.
Looks like a really good solution. How deep into the tank does that nipple draw from? Is there a risk that it will run the van dry or will I always need a nearly full tank?
I presume it wouldn’t. That nipple has been made and designed by VW specifically to attach an auxiliary diesel feed so I would guess there’s some safety in leaving some fuel in the tank. The reality is it uses very little diesel on a diesel heater. Our 2kw autoterm is never higher than setting 1 which uses around 150ml of diesel per hour.
Does it have a built in voltage regulator for the solar panel?
It does its a full MPPT
Very educational video, thank you. Do you know if there will be a screen for the cabin to control 12v, 230v and jump start? Maybe something that can give the condition of the battery.
You can, as well, take the feed for webasto, from the return circuit. 😊
hi can you help me i have broken the plug for the remote on the Clayton Do you know were i can buy a new one Thanks Wayne
@@wknowles7734 Ping me a message on mark @ ahoy.co.uk I may have a spare in the garage if not I can get one for you. Where are you based?
Doing this today, this video is a godsend! Heater is in, it’s just the fuel line and connecting up to do today
Ah that’s a really nice comment thanks. 🙏
So you don't have to use an RCD.
No it uses an RCBO which has earth protection too. If you are having a lot of 230v appliances I would recommend a small consumer unit.
Is there any build videos of this van or links to the lightweight materials used ?
Coming soon!
How full does the tank have to be? I have fitted this kit but I can't for the life of me get suction. The connector feels loose even though its clicked; I can move it up and down a little
It sounds like you may need to take a bit more off the nipple. Check with a phone by videoing it to make sure you have cut enough off and can see a small hole. The fuel should flow out of the pipe neatly rather than spurt.
Very nice build ! to dark for my taste and an stupid placement of the toilet casett door..
Yeah we have dark cabinets but have softened it up with lighter woods on the floor and ceiling. Hahah yeah but he wanted fewer things on the outside I did think that myself I will check how he’s getting on with that.
Had 20 years with electric then induction hob went back to gas and gas is 100% better to cook on
we’ve just spent 3 weeks touring france and the gas has lasted really well. I do think the LPG has its place.
What an epic build fella👏👍💪 And to have that come in at 3,250kg is awesome. We used lightweight ply (and it’s not that lightweight either). We’ve upplated to 4,050kg to allow us to have capacity for what we have fitted. Weirdly, having the towbar on ours has assisted taking weight off the front axle. Recently completed a front axle lift with BFG’s too. Nice work👌
Haha no, lightweight ply is defo an advertising con.
@@ahoyleisure indeed. I remember doing the calcs back in 2019 and where we used Morland boards and despite the industry claims of being lightweight it is still relatively heavy per sheet at about 25kg compared to a standard 18mm ply sheet of about 36kg. The only plus was the choice of laminate colours available (see our build)👍
Great Video, glad you got it all approved, from a budgeting point of view whats the cost including the engineers input?
it’s was £336 inc vat for the weight engineers 👍🏼
@@ahoyleisure Thanks for letting me know, I will be in touch at some point for a Clayton.
What is the plastic that he used in his build and where can it be sourced?
Really well thought out build. Very impressive. Are you experiencing flex in your right hand rear door with the mule vans box fitted?
No not from what I’ve been told.
Sorry if i missed it in the video but what is the lightweight material used for the cabinets called?
Plastic
With the heater under the drivers seat would it still be possible to fit a swivel base? Thanks
I think it depends on the type. FYI mine are both factory swivel seats and they work 100%.
Nice one, thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate it 👍
I really enjoyed this. Not just because my next van will hopefully be a MAN TGE 4x4 but because its a really well thought out and excellently produced video! Subbed! Ringo
Clayton make a fantastic unit but I feel they really need to develop an app for ease of monitoring to support their unit like other manufacturers do. It's the little things that can sometimes tip the balance for choosing a power bank solution. Maybe your thinking Clayton are targeting a selective audience but so are Ferrari yet they have an app for their drivers. Just a thought
I agree, an app would be very handy.
What was the suspension kit fitted to this build couldn’t quite catch the name of it in the video ? I’m looking at upgrading suspension on my build currently and there’s not many options out there that I can find.
Seikel was the name. Speak to Rob at Volkstrek in Wales
@@ahoyleisure thanks
Is there a secret shop menu for enabling/disabling certain parameters?
Hey. Your videos were one part of taking the decision to get a LPS2. However, I got problems to start solar charging working. There's a parameter "self-learning start voltage" in the solar menu. It learns but only increasing the value. Now it is so high, solar charge never starts again. I can't change the value using the menu, so ... what is the trick here? Or is it just stupid software programming or maybe no-one uses solar with LPS2?
If you go into solar and turn it off and back on it will reset it. Please note that it will need a minimum of 15v to start working.
@@ahoyleisure thanks for the quick answer, it worked. However that is a bit strange that it got so high that it doesn't start charging again. Would not be funny to reset C2 every day...
It is self learning but it also has perimeters for protecting itself. So in the first few days as its learning or as its connected it may need resetting. As long as the watts are below 400w and the open circuit voltage is below 50v everything will work ok. Ive never had to reset mine other than after reconnecting wires etc and I've had mine for years now.
Hi i need to in contact has doing exactly the same in my build already fitted my bedframe in aluminium excursion mines an elwb tge. Can put in contact please 🙏 ?

Bloody hell hope those dogs don’t fart at the same time after eating those beans
None of the dogs farts are as bad as Katie's. :-)
Had my Ko2s for just over a year. Great tyres, look fab only downside is in heavy rain the grip is rubbish. Had general grabber aT3s before them and found them better all rounders but didn’t look as good. Wear wise the Bf s are awesome. Still look like new. 🤙🏽
Yeah I agree, its this balance between look, grip and longevity and I think the KO2s walk the line pretty well.
I had BFG KO2 AT 18” 255/55’s on my T6.1 150ps 2WD. Fronts did 40K; Rears ran for 60K+ and didn’t need changing when I took them off! However they sounded like the rear wheel bearings had gone, they were awful and resonated through the van, even my garage thought it was mechanical! Poor on tarmac in wet. Poor fuel economy too. Can’t really recommend.
@@themightyjuju Thank for the comment buddy. Blimey that’s good I think it’s generally a minimum of 20k miles front and 40k miles back on standard tyres but with offroad wheels especially on heavier vehicles noise will start to sneak with high milage. What did you change over to out of interest?
@@ahoyleisure Michelin CrossClimate 2, all season with snowflake rating 255/45 (to guarantee the loading). Fab, would buy again, all aspects better 👍🏻
I had the KMC’s & BFG’s on my T5 but they started corroding and hated the road noise on European roads. Great wheel though. Now using Trail Terrains as less aggressive and I’ve found smoother on the tarmac, but yesterday trying a steep loose gravel track in the Pyrénées and FWD was possibly their limit without reducing pressure.
Pyrenees, ah I wish I was there!!! Hope you are getting good weather too. We had a 5 series estate car back in the days we camped in tents, and had all season tyres fitted in preparation for a month long trip to france. Mainly due to us doing more and more tails. But after testing them for 20 mins on the motorway we went back to the tyre shop and took them off as they were so noisy. So we were worried about the same with the KO2 bit pleasantly surprised. Again with the Holeshots maybe we have been lucky. Other than the centre aluminium cap being repainted we’ve had no failing other than standard wear and tear.
I run Falken Wildpeak all terrains on my T6 and wouldn't go back to summer tyres for all the reasons you listed, my next set will probably be KO2 OR KO3.
We have x3 t6.1 campers that we hire out. Today we have been considering changing them over to KO2 when new tyres are needed as they have lasted so long.
@@ahoyleisure I "might" stick with Wildpeaks on my T6 as aesthetically they are a little bit more subtle than KO2, Without a doubt the Crafter suits KO2, MWB Crafter will be my next van. Decisions decisions 😁
The MWB Crafter/TGE look ace. 👍🏼 If we didn’t have a small herd of dogs that’s the van we would have 🐺 🐕 🐕 🐕
@@richardpickering2452 Falken have better wet grip than BFG AT’s, consider BFG Trail Terrain is you have road bias and only mild off road? Still quite aggressive but better manners.
I have the General Grabber AT3 17 inch on my T6 but I was thinking of getting some new rims and tyres although mine are only a year old I don't quite like my Riviera swamper alloys. I was thinking of the KMC Holeshot but I hear people say they rust. Have you found rust to be an issue? I think it comes from alloy and steel bolts which cause the problem.
I almost added a section at the end of this video on the KMC Holeshots but it felt like it needed another video. I spoke to Aiden from UAO and he has had issues with his near the bolt areas on the rim but i’ve not, other than general wear and tear that is. I’ve filmed a little on them and will maybe upload a quick video. I’ve had zero to no bubbling or blistering on the wheels. No rust at all. On one wheel right at the back of one of the holes i’ve had some paint come loose. The holes (oh er mister) will get cleaned every 3-4 weeks with a brush where as the wheels most weeks. So you can see a slight build up of break dust where i’ve been a lazy buggar. I use the Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner so I think it’s more gentle in general. All in all I still like the alloys 9/10 score. they were a good choice and they have lasted. maybe they could be refurbed after another 12 months or so. Compared to some alloys i’ve had in the past merc A35 were a pain, 5 series sport, transporters etc all on bigger sportier wheels, any painted wheels will need a tickle after 3-4 years. I will have a proper look round all the wheels and throw it in the video.
Tip please don’t use a metal spoon in non stick pot’s etc. Use wooden or plastic utensils. 😮I love your set up❤ This advice is very useful.😊
Hahah point taken. I would normally be moaning at our kids about that I’m not sure why I was setting a bad example. 😇
I l took my LWB Crafter 140 fwd up hard knock pass. The girlfriend read on park4bight that its amazing. I honestly had no issues till that last corner when my front wheels lifted. I can see the average driver would end up in big trouble. I eneded up doing a rolling one wheel burnout to the top. I am sure I won't be going again.
Pahaha yeah same here. The first climb is steep and you get up it but it gives you a false sense of security. Then you think you are fine until that famous corner. Can’t imagine how that would feel in hard rain at night 👀👀👀👀😵💫
Took our heavily loaded T5.1 over hardnock pass and would agree that over 6m in length would be a challenge! Scraped the rear flaps on a lot of the turns and low gears on the steep bits. Well done in a LWB TGE.
Thankfully no scrapes for us, just skids in my undies 😇
I have these on my T6 and have just hit 40k miles on them. They still have 6mm of tread and they have started to get pretty noisy on road. Might take your advice and see if I can sell them - I hear good things about the Wild Peak AT's too but reluctant to change as the KO2's have been bomproof even on rough terrain.
Yeah they get a bit of stick about how they handle in mud and there is new version out but i’ve had no bother at all and I’ve been happy with them. At the end of the day they are an all-purpose tyre so not out and out offroad. If they were on an old jeep that I was smashing down green lanes maybe a softer tyre with more tread space to sling the mud out for more grip. Like all tyres even road tyres as they age the road noise starts to slowly come in as the wear is never perfectly balanced. But considering the stick these tyres get in some of the forums I thought I would do an honest personal review with facts. If I get £400 for mine and I pay £800 for new it’s only cost me £100 per corner for 3+ years driving. I’m happy with that.
Loving the videos. They are really informative and giving me some great ideas for my build. I will be looking to convert a Crafter in the near future and I am really interested in the plastic panelling for lining and furniture. Do you have any details for a supplier, finishes and costs please?
I’ve chased and will come back on this. We are hoping to get the keys on our showroom this month and start to have samples and stock soon.
@ahoyleisure Do you have the details of the plastic panelling?
I’m hoping to get a list of what is available as there has been change in some of the items ie patterns and colours. I will update everyone asap.

@@ahoyleisure brill thanks bud
Another great vid Mark, thanks to you and John for sharing. Amazing that he has all that kit for less than 3.5T. I'm sure the Clayton is helping with the weight saving. What provides the heating and hot water? I've been looking at autotherm for heating and underslung Incline or Isotemp water system.
Thanks James ✌️ He’s using the truma 14ltr electric hot water tank which is working well for him. He basically runs it while driving to full temp and the it retains heat in the jacket only losing 1 degree every hr. I will double check on heating the van but I think it was the factory fitted heater. I will double check.
@ahoyleisure thank you. Interesting, so free hot water whilst driving from the alternator charging the Clayton and that heating the water. The 2 I have been looking at heat whilst driving as well by heat exchange with the engine coolant system and can be topped up with electric as needed. Food for thought.
@@jamescollins4489 Yeah I looked at calorifier on my build. Great idea but you do need to tap in to your hot water in the engine to get the heat from the heating matrix to heat the water in the tank. But with just an electric only heater it’s a super simple fitting and you can effectively do the same thing👍🏼.
Evening Mark, new subscriber here (another Mark!) 👍 Browsing your vids n blogs...fantastic stuff 👌 I'm in the process of searching for a suitable van to go on some off-grid adventures with my dogs Belle and Oz 🥰. This video you've done is exactly what I've been researching before committing to buying something to suit my needs. My licence (pre 1997) allows me to drive a vehicle up to 7.5t like yourself, so all good there. My confusion lies around the vehicle classification : ~ If the van I purchase is already rated over 3.5t (fully laden) does that mean I can convert it up to a max 7.5t? There are vans out there with this rating (ex utilities vans, civil service, military etc.) ~ If I then register it as a 'motor caravan' as per DVLA guidelines, does that mean I will be breaching the 3.5t guidance? Sorry if this point doesn't make sense! Basically, I think I might be misunderstanding that if it's registered as a motor caravan then the weight, fully laden, should not exceed 3.5t? There must be hundreds if not thousands of motorhomes out there that are over 3.5t but DO fall in the category of up to 7.5t, legally (eg factory built campers, coach built campers etc.). I've interpreted it as - if you reclassifiy a vehicle to a motor caravan, regardless of its original weight limit, upsizing or downsizing, then it cannot exceed 3.5t. Hope that makes sense 🙈 Any help very much welcome. TIA M
Hey thanks. Always welcome another subscriber 🥳. On the logbook it will have a specific weight. I’m up-weighting to 3.9 for example. Just ask on any vehicle you are considering buying what it says on the logbook under “max permissible weight” and revenue weight. So let me check with the engineering company. This was something I was getting confused about too. But I think this is why Sean at SV Tech was advising me to do the application of body change FIRST before up-weighting.
@@ahoyleisurethanks for the swift response Mark.
Any more information on the plastic sheet material and trims please? Great idea. Great video. Thank you.
